How Etsy witches bewitched TikTok

Etsy cast witches off its site in 2015. In 2025, they’re making a comeback with the help of TikTok’s user-generated advertising.

Huntington, NY – Filming in Oheka Castle’s French château-inspired wedding venue —where Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” music video was filmed — NYC influencers Jaz Smith and Halley Kate announced Smith’s metaphysical masterplan for a seamless wedding weekend: hiring a witch on Etsy.

“Jaz paid an Etsy witch to make it not rain on her wedding weekend and we got this sunshine,” Kate, Smith’s maid of honor, testified to her 1.7 million followers and Smith’s 700K followers in the jointly posted video.

While Smith’s wedding served McDonald’s hamburgers during the afterparty and spotlighted a selection of bridal brands, it was Etsy’s witches that most enchanted Smith’s avid wedding watchers — even though Etsy technically banned spiritual services in 2015.

“Any metaphysical service that promises or suggests it will affect a physical change (e.g., weight loss) or other outcome (e.g., love, revenge) is not allowed, even if it delivers a tangible item,” the online handcrafted goods platform announced in 2015, adding it “respects and values the metaphysical community of Etsy” and assuring the policy “applies equally to all intangible services.”

In response, tens of thousands of Etsy witches and consumers signed Etsy forum and Change.org petitions to reinstate witchcraft services onto Etsy’s platform. Despite the ban, hundreds of “good luck,” “get hired” and “get skinny” spells are offered on the site a decade later, along with tarot card readings over Zoom, soulmate predictor drawings and psychic readings for as little as 41 cents.

While witches have technically been exiled from Etsy, many find loopholes such as offering services attached to tangible, shippable products, such psychic readings conducted by interpreting patterns of Turkish coffee grounds.

Etsy did not respond to Campaign’s requests for comment.

Those who dare to visit the Etsy witch realm reach virality posting niche testimonies — Buffalo Bills fans who assisted their teams throughout the NBA playoffs; heartbroken 20-somethings who’ve hexed their exes; and loyal TikTok users who tasked witches with preventing a possible U.S. ban of the app.

Hashtags surrounding Etsy witches — #EtsyWitch, #EtsyWitchCraft #Etsywitchshop — have accumulated 52,000 posts on Instagram and TikTok. Google searches for “Etsy witches” have increased 80% since the end of June.

Will TikTok video testimonies do the trick for Etsy to fully welcome witches back on its site? Only time — or this best-selling “Fortune Telling Turkish Coffee Reading” for $4.61 — will tell.
