To close out #NationalEmailWeek, we wanted to pause and share a thought about the part of email almost no one ever sees. We talk a lot about the inbox getting smarter. AI assistants are starting to read, summarise and even action our email for us, and that is genuinely useful. It also quietly changes the most important question we ask of any message. For most of email's history that question was "did it arrive?" Increasingly it is "can we actually verify where it came from?" A careful human reader can spot the signs of a spoofed email: a domain with an extra character, an odd turn of phrase, a sense of urgency that does not quite fit. An AI assistant scanning your inbox for things to action may not slow down to notice any of that. It reads the content, registers the urgency, and acts accordingly. That is why email authentication, the SPF, DKIM and DMARC standards most people have never had reason to think about, is quietly becoming the trust layer the future of email depends on. It is following the same path HTTPS took on the web: best practice, then expectation, then simply infrastructure you assume is there. Authentication is not a complete answer on its own. It confirms identity, not intent. But it raises the cost and complexity of impersonation, and that matters more with every step we take towards a more automated inbox. One of our fantastic Tier 2 Support Agents, Aric Archebelle-Smith has written a clear, refreshingly non-alarmist piece on where this is heading and why it matters. Well worth a read if you care about email staying something we can actually trust. https://lnkd.in/gWddEuBX #NationalEmailWeek #EmailSecurity #Privacy #Fastmail #Betteremail #Phishing #Cybersecurity #Besafeonline #Emailforever

Real people. Around the clock. For all Fastmail customers. That's still how support works at Fastmail, even as the rest of the industry hands you over to a chatbot and hopes for the best. Merlin Jayan, one of our Tier 2 Support Agents, has just published a great piece on how to get the most out of that support. She uses a real customer story to show what a good ticket looks like and the small details that help us solve things faster: a descriptive subject line, the bounce message, the device and browser, and a screenshot if there's an error. What I love about Merlin's post is how clearly her care for customers comes through. After 11 years on the team, she still finds every ticket interesting because no two are the same. That's the kind of person answering your email when you choose to engage with a human who's genuinely curious about your problem. Worth a read if you've ever sent a support request into the void and wondered what happens next. https://lnkd.in/gwJRGRWZ #fastmail #customersupport #techsupport #emailsupport #realpeople #customerservice #supportteam

In support of #privacyawarenessweek2026 and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as well as #smallbusinessweek, Fastmail's Bek Fraser has reflected on privacy considerations from her own experience. "In my career I spent a number of years running my own consultancy. My clients trusted me with deeply sensitive information: resumés, salary expectations, performance concerns, restructures, career anxieties. All of it landed in my inbox. At the time, I went with a mainstream email provider because I didn't know what I didn't know. I assumed mainstream meant secure and good. What I didn't think hard enough about was how my provider was using those communications, or whether the platform I'd chosen actually treated my clients' information the way I'd promised them I would. Looking back, the right email infrastructure shouldn't be a quick decision. It's central to the trust your clients place in you. I've written up what I wish I'd known when I started, including the questions every small business owner should ask before defaulting to a mainstream service. If you're setting up on your own, or you know someone who is, I hope it's useful." #SmallBusinessWeek #privacyawarenessweek2026 #PAW2026 #OAIC #privacy #email #betteremail #whatyoushouldknow https://lnkd.in/gFYENcfp

#Privacy is really important to all of us here at #Fastmail. And so is #trust. This is why we are proud to support the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner #PAW2026 theme, "Trust is built here – In every privacy complaint. In every resolution." Building on last year's focus on shared responsibility, this year emphasises how privacy obligations are put into practice – particularly in how organisations and government agencies manage privacy complaints and dispute resolution. Our blog post this week is about our commitment to #privacy, and to building trust. As we highlight in the post, we believe trust isn’t only built in the moment a complaint is resolved. It’s built much earlier than that, specifically in the choices we make as a company in the way we work, and how we design our features and product. At Fastmail, we are celebrating National Email Day, and what better way to do this than to let you know about something exciting; launching our MCP server. Email is still the largest, most open communication platform in the world. It's your electronic memory, and it isn't owned by any single company. That's exactly why we've just launched an MCP server for Fastmail. MCP is an open standard for how AI clients talk to external tools and data. By shipping an MCP server rather than building AI into our product, we're sticking to something we genuinely believe: your data, your choice. You pick the AI client. You pick whether to connect it. You pick the level of access (read, write, or send). And nothing changes for you if you'd rather not use it at all. Rob Mueller has written up the full story, including the difference between putting AI in your app versus putting your app in AI: https://lnkd.in/gbTMmpdq Happy National Email Day from the team at Fastmail. #Fastmail #Nationalemailday #MCPserver #betteremail #youremailyourway #yourdatayourchoice #MCP #newfeatures

Our CEO, Bron Gondwana, recently spoke on the 1Password podcast, "Random but Memorable", talking about something we all need to be thinking about: what AI-powered phishing actually looks like inside your inbox. It's a great conversation! Bron gets into how attackers are using AI to make scams more convincing, and how to stay one step ahead. Give it a listen 🎙 https://lnkd.in/guAZXZDv Watch it on YouTube💻 https://lnkd.in/gPZH_KjH 📄 Further reading on the Fastmail blog: → The new phishing: How to spot email scams in 2025: https://lnkd.in/dT6z57BA → This blog post was not written with AI: https://lnkd.in/g73FsXzX #AI #Phishing #spotafakeemail #betteremail #privacy #security #cybersecurity #fastmail #1Password

We've just shipped a major update to the Fastmail interface, focused on making multitasking and composing emails feel more natural. Multi-window support is now live — hold ⇧ Shift to open a compose window or a full conversation alongside whatever you're already doing. Use ⇧ Shift + R to reply in a new window, or ⇧ Shift + A to reply all. Replies also now appear inline in your thread, so you stay in context while you write. We've also tidied up the compose experience across desktop and mobile: switch between Reply and Reply All mid-draft, drag and drop recipients between To, Cc and Bcc, and hide the formatting toolbar when you want fewer distractions. What makes customers trust an email provider for over 25 years? 🤔 We went looking for the answer - not in our own messaging, but in the reviews, forums, and tech blogs where our customers speak freely. What we found was consistent and clear. The themes that came up again and again: ✅ A simple, honest business model - you're the customer, not the product ✅ Real human support, when it matters most ✅ A track record dating back to 1999 - before Gmail even existed ✅ Features like Masked Email and aliases that genuinely change how people manage their online identity ✅ Speed, a clean interface, and no ads ✅ Commitment to open standards - your data belongs to you, not us Trust isn't built by what a company says about itself. It's built in conversations we're not part of. We're proud of what our customers say when we're not in the room. Read the full post here 👉 https://lnkd.in/g3dUciwr
