A few weeks later, we’re still reflecting on what an incredible weekend Midwest Blockathon turned out to be. Over one weekend, Midwest Blockathon turned KU into a space where students, builders, and mentors came together to test ideas, learn fast, and build alongside each other. From first-time hackers exploring Web3 for the first time to experienced teams shipping ambitious projects, the weekend captured exactly what this community is about. ⚡ Hackers built across tracks ranging from open innovation and beginner-friendly blockchain projects to real-world XRPL applications and a Sui capture the flag. Teams competed for prizes, explored new technologies, and connected with leaders across the space. Huge thank you to our sponsors and partners for making it all possible especially Sui Foundation, Pinata, Ripple, and KU Entrepreneurship. Your support helped create an unforgettable weekend for builders across the Midwest. 💙 Check out the projects from the Midwest Blockathon here: https://lnkd.in/gzPYd7wm 🎥 Check out the official recap video below

About us
The KU Blockchain Institute (KUBI) is a student-led initiative that focuses on uniting students, faculty, and industry partners through the advancement of emerging blockchain technology. We aim to push our university forward and make the University of Kansas the tech-hub of the Midwest through the research, education, and development of blockchain technology. We are hosted by the Institute for Information Sciences (I2S) and collaborate with various parts of the University of Kansas, including the School of Business, School of Engineering, and the Bioscience and Technology Business Center. Through these collaborative efforts, we are able to create an interdisciplinary tie-in between a wide range of students and faculty and we look to expand to additional areas in the educational and commercial community. We see great value in engaging partners through research projects, educational conferences and events, and the publication of original content. We constantly look for innovative ways to improve processes, analyze complex problems through a technological lens, and contribute to our community.

From October 17th to October 24th, seven Jayhawks (Jahnvi Maddila, Nischay Rawal, Caleb Hite, Alexandro Perez, Emma Du, Charlie Doherty, and Kyle Spragg) swapped Wescoe Beach for the Thames in London and represented Kansas Blockchain during London Blockchain Week at the London Blockchain Conference and Zebu Live! These conferences were more than just a peek at the future of web3, they were proof the space is maturing. We heard what’s working (and what isn’t) in the world of web3, sat in on thoughtful policy debates, and listened to panels by teams working on solving real world problems with blockchain technology. Beyond the main stages, we also made real connections at side events hosted by CryptoMondays London and SWC where we swapped ideas and shared projects. We also connected with various companies in the Web3 space such as The Block , Bybit, Bitget, VeChain, and lined up potential future collabs. 🤝 However, it wouldn’t be a trip to London without exploring the city itself! Outside the agenda, we had an unforgettable time exploring museums, taking long walks in the parks, trying a variety of new foods in the markets, hanging out at our airbnb, and shopping till we dropped! 🏛️🍜🛍️ We’re back in Lawrence with fresh perspective, new friends, and a bigger ambition for what student builders can do next. Onto our next adventure! As always, a huge thank you to Ripple for sponsoring our trip and believing in the future of blockchain education. Your support made this possible! #KUBlockchain #UniversityOfKansas #LondonBlockchainConference #ZibuLive #CryptoMondays #Web3
