🚨 Industry Update: Request for Retirement of FIBO® Version 1 Specifications The Object Management Group® (OMG®), an EDM Association community, has issued Requests for Retirement (RFRs) for four legacy specifications within the Financial Industry Business Ontology® (FIBO) family: o FIBO Foundations v1.2 o FIBO Business Entities v1.1 o FIBO Financial Business and Commerce v1.1 o FIBO Indices and Indicators v1.0 These specifications have played an important role in establishing formal semantics for data integration, reporting, and broader data usage across financial services. However, they have now been superseded by the continuously updated EDM Association FIBO ontology, delivered through quarterly releases. 🔄 Why the change? As the financial industry continues to evolve rapidly, managing FIBO as static versions is no longer practical. This transition reflects a shift toward more agile, continuous ontology management, ensuring standards remain current, relevant, and aligned with industry needs. 📌 What this means for users Organizations are encouraged to move away from the retired OMG FIBO specifications and instead adopt: o The latest EDMA FIBO ontology (maintained via GitHub since 2017) o Supporting OMG standards such as Commons and Languages, Countries and Codes (LCC) 💬 Call for feedback OMG is actively seeking input from stakeholders on: Current usage and relevance Potential impacts of retiring these specifications A 90-day public comment period is now open. 🚀 OMG Issues RFP for IDL4 to Rust Language Mapping Exciting news from the Object Management Group® (OMG®): we’ve officially issued a new Request for Proposal (RFP) to develop a standardized mapping from IDL4 to the Rust programming language. As IDL4 evolves with more modular and expressive capabilities, the need for modern language mappings continues to grow. At the same time, Rust’s rapid adoption—driven by its focus on safety, performance, and reliability—makes it a natural next step in expanding OMG’s portfolio.
