About Us
Welcome to Merrimack County, New Hampshire!
Founded in 1823, Merrimack County is named after the scenic Merrimack River that runs through it. Originally formed from parts of northern Hillsborough and Rockingham Counties, Merrimack County is home to two cities and twenty-five towns, with Concord serving as the county seat.
As of the 2024 Census, the county has a population of 157,869 residents. Covering a total area of 956 square miles (2,476 km²), Merrimack County ranks as the third-largest county in New Hampshire by land area. Of this, 934 square miles (2,419 km²) is land, and 22 square miles (57 km²) is water, making up roughly 2.31% of the total area.
The county offers breathtaking natural landscapes, including its highest peak, Mount Kearsarge, which rises to 2,937 feet at the border of Warner and Wilmot.

Camping Prohibited on County-owned Land: No individual or entity may stay, occupy, set up, install or build any camping equipment or shelter, or sleep directly on the ground on any portion of Merrimack County-owned or controlled land or public easement unless: prior written authorization is obtained from the Merrimack County Board of Commissioners.
