Oxfam is a global movement of millions of people who share the belief that, in a world rich in resources, poverty isn’t inevitable. In just 15 years, extreme poverty has been halved. 15 more years and we can end it for good.

The potential for lasting change lies in the hands of millions of women worldwide currently living in poverty. That’s why, at Oxfam, we put women’s rights in the heart of everything we do.

We are helping to raise women’s voices and demand equality. When all women get fair living wages, decent working conditions, and their voices heard, everyone benefits. Oxfam helps women step into leadership roles, speak out against harmful laws and policies, and stand up for their rights.

During emergency situations, women and men can be effected in dramatically different ways – for example, in refugee camps, where girls and women need lighting at night and separate toilets to stay safe, secure and healthy. Standing up for women’s rights is vital for keeping everyone safe.

Oxfam are helping to create sustainable businesses. Loans, seeds, tools and training for women help whole communities grow more food and make goods that they can market themselves, and break free from poverty.

Paloma is an Oxfam Ambassador, and travelled to Honduras to learn about the epidemic of violence against women. She spoke with women affected by violence and discovered how Oxfam campaigners are trying to end domestic violence and stop the increasing numbers of women who are murdered.
