Hello! I believe that computers can radically expand humanity's creative and intellectual capacity—and that we've barely scratched the surface of what's possible here. My research aspires to mine deeper veins, searching for new kinds of transformative tools for thought. For the past few years I've been focused on an augmenting human memory and attention: see Quantum Country, How can we build transformative tools for thought?, and Orbit for more. Since 2019, I've been a para-academic of sorts—I do research, often in collaboration with others, but not as part of any institution. This Patreon has been my primary source of funding—a crowdfunded research grant from a small number of people like you. However! In late 2025, I went on "para-academic leave": I've been working on a new kind of attention augmentation system with Taylor Rogalski; he wanted to pursue it as a startup; I wanted to continue the collaboration. So here I am, at the moment, funded by investors. While that's the case, I will direct all Patreon funds towards field-building: funding others and/or hosting events, in service of interfaces that expand our creative capacity and uplift the human spirit. As a patron, you'll get access to "Letters from the Lab"—in-depth essays from me—and early access to prototypes. —Andy
