In the same building as Woolworths Marryatville at Leabrook, Sloth Cafe is where you can enjoy cafe food with a Japanese flair. Specials are available for those who desire a bit of variety.

The slices of pork in the Red Chilli Pork Scramble were cooked just right, and the omelette was light and fluffy. Chilli sauce and chilli oil gave the dish a spicy kick that was not too intense. The crunchy and fresh coleslaw served as a foil to the spiciness. We liked that the butter croissant had the crisp and fluffy texture we expected.

Offered as a special during our visit, the caramelised soy sauce in the Caramelised Beef on Toast had a delectable sweet-savoury flavour. However, some of the slices of sous vide OBE beef were a bit tough. The earthy celeriac puree partnered nicely with the beef, and garlic chips added some crunch. Completing the dish were house-made pickles, cherry tomatoes and chive oil.

When ordering their Fried Chicken, diners have the choice between garlic butter and sweet spicy sauce. We were able to have a half-and-half mix of the two. The flesh of the chicken was juicy and the crisp coating set it off nicely. Be aware that the sweet spicy sauce packs a potent spicy punch. The garlic butter imparted a hint of garlicy flavour without overpowering the chicken.

A scattering of crushed nuts provided extra crunch. In addition to a fresh salad, pickled daikon came with the dish. It retained its texture and was not too tangy.

The cafe had a comfortable feel and diners have the choice between indoor and outdoor seating. Arriving early or booking ahead is advised to ensure you don’t have to wait for a table.
