Now Showing

 Hello all!

Melbourne's theatre scene has really been rocketing along for the past 3 or so years right now, and I wanted to ask all of you in the area what your top show would be right now?

I'd have to say that Phantom, Wicked and Jersey Boys were my top 3, with Mamma Mia close behind. I feel the only thing letting it down is the absolutely hammed acting (a bit overdone past the OTT it should be). Cats was a bit of a disappointment, but it's never been one of my faves.

Fames and Mary Poppins looked doomed to disappoint.

Swinging by to announce that we now have an LJ community dedicated to the Phantom of the Opera Australian Cast Recording and / or Filmed Stage Performance Petition (Starring Anthony Warlow), Imagephantompetition. So if anyone on LJ is looking to sign they may do so here ((the comments are screened unless the poster asks to be unscreened, just for the sake of privacy)), and those LJ members who have already signed are free to join the community as a bit of a boost.

((Does anyone look here anymore? And I'm sorry I forgot to post my Pirates review here, I ended up posting it in my journal instead ... and the reviews for Phantom of the Opera on my Anthony Warlow fan forum *sweat*))

Silly American

Hey there. This place seems a bit quiet, but it fits my question so I'll ask anyway.

I'm an American university student about to begin my last year. I'm looking for places after I finish uni to study directing (theatrical, not film/tv obviously). I figured why not travel to far and distant lands, and my research brought me across the NIDA in Sydney. Anyone had experience with that place? Their webiste wasn't terribly in depth, but there was mention of a post-grad 1 year track for Directing.

If anyone'd be willing to talk, comment or send me a message. Any input's much appreciated!

More Icons for the Comm.!

Wow. This place is the same as it has been since September. I'm back under my "artsy journal" name to give ya 3 more icons by moi ... but by the looks of things this community will never get its own icon set up. Oh well. Just in case. Ooh, and I'll write up a review of Pirates when I see it in Adelaide in January - not Anthony Warlow or John Bolton-Wood, *cries bitterly* but David Hobson will be in it and HOPEFULLY Richard Alexander will be too *prays madly*

Anyway, 3 new icons for the comm.! More on the way

2: Anthony Warlow and Rosemary Gunn in HMS Pinafore

G'day! Uh ... I just joined and I noticed you don't have a userpic, so I just quickly whipped up this:

Yeah, I know, it's not that good, but you can use it if you want. For those who can't recognise it, it's the finale pose from Opera Australia's HMS Pinafore performance last year' ((taken from the HMS Pinafore / Trial By Jury DVD))

Don't ask me why that particular picture is attached.  I just write the words.  I have

This is just a link to my review of Rope, the latest offering from Brisbane's Centenary Theatre Company.

Not exactly the best script in the world, but some fine performances.
