Around my Birthday I wrote some poems. I'm still tinkering with this one, but I like it.
What’s that on your face?
“What’s that on your face, dear?” A mother asked her son He smiled at her with brilliant love And answered with, “A kiss?”
She swooped down low And touched her lips To his cherubic cheek And fits of giggles followed.
The years go by, the game forgot A young teen cannot see His mother’s kiss upon his cheek Or the giggles it unleashed
One day I asked a mother When she was tired from her day “What’s that on your face, dear?” she did not know what to say.
“I think it’s mine,” I coyly state and lean in to her space To giggle in her ear And claim the kiss upon her face. |

I said something the other day, then stopped, tasting it.
"There's a poem in there," I said. My friend heard me, and challenged me.
Here's the poem:
Legendary
My lover has forgotten that we are legends The world has kept us apart for too long
His time in the desert has confused him He can no longer remember with certainty Whether water is real or a cruel mirage
I offer him cool water, and he eyes it first Then drinks deeply, surprised. I hold my tears, but remember how many times He has poured water joyfully, tending those who thirst.
My lover does not believe he is a marvel. The world kept him in the dark for so long
His time in the oubliette transformed him; Too many years of having his armor stripped away, His monsters caged, his fire dampened.
I lay my arm across his still-broad shoulders Sharing my strength, leaving a cape behind. And when he stands just a little straighter I can again see the hero who rescues dragons.
I ask, my voice breaking, "have you forgotten that we are heroes?"
He answers, his mouth twisting, "I could never forget that you are legendary." |

| Will you come for me? |

| [ | mood |
| | thoughtful | ] | Will you come for me? Like a song from long ago Only fragments remembered Words that make no sense.
Will you come for me? A fleeting shadow Moving in an alley Slinking away in the light of dawn.
Will you come for me? A static arc on my skin Burning like a phantom limb More real than reality.
A fine magician you are; Creating nothing but your absence. All your tools and secrets Taken to the grave.
When you come for me I will be gone. Right place, wrong time. Your hopeful future is the crumbled dust of my past.
The empty space in my heart Where you used to be Is now nothing but a legend Lost in the mist like Shangri-La. |

It's light outside so I know that you can see me I know that you can see me 'cause I see I catch your eye.
It's dark inside the heavy drapes are all closed I know that when you look this way you'll pretend there's no one there.
It's just a glass door so I know that you can hear me I can hear your ragged breathing and the sob you try to stop.
I see the block A rod of wood to block the slide So I could not come inside even if I still had the key.
And it feels like it's been this way for years Even when I had a key and an invitation in my hand You never once trusted me enough with your tears You sat in darkness and watched my show through that damned glass door
With a rock and some gumption I could break the pane of glass Walk on through And pull you up Out of your nest of ancient yearning
Do I have the courage? Apparently not. Trespassers Will, Indeed. |

Gratitude
I do what I ought And what I should You were never those things, Simply a "yes" And a hand outreached |

Prolly still needs tweaking to get the message right.
Of Missing You
Starved, I scrounge through your words Picking at morsels to sustain me Until we may reaffix, affirm.
I'm hungry, beloved.
Rapacious, pining Crawling over our landscape Belly scraping on bleached bones Looking, sniffing, tasting
I'm hungry, beloved.
Aching, Waking dreams of purity float Specter-bright between my water and flame. I choke, roar, growl for treasure.
I'm hungry, beloved. |

Caveat
Foolish boy I see through you Back into me - The bright sauce of comfort For your emo-licious breakfast
Use me, Okay, I give in Use me, I can take what you've got
Silly boy Playing games Closed to your heart I've jumped this hopscotch Long before you dreamed of me
Use me, I enjoy the surrender Use me, I will open my heart wider
Imprudent boy Coloring me in with your shades Trying to keep my own hues From bleeding through into you These colors are indelible
Use me, I won't say no Use me, My arms will enfold you
And when you are full of my gifts and Leave me with a broken heart I will sigh and smile, wry Knowing my source is eternal And at this ending I will still be standing While you stumble along Searching for the next doll to feed you. |

Give me your skin So I may walk in you. Smooth it against my flesh, Hold it to my bones, Inhale your scent Revel in the mix with mine
Give me your blood So I may drink you deep. Swim through red heat Pulse through your body Race the intensity that feeds you Sliding, streaming in your rhythms
Give me your heart So I may measure your strength Wrap myself around its movement Nuzzle against the walls Pressing, pushing back at me Dance in the embrace and release
Give me your mind So I may know your impulses Ignite in the flashfire of thought Ride your senses through to Memory Find my laugh, my eyes, my voice there Tickle the smile you give for me
I want to crawl inside you Desire, crave, pine to learn you Find the place you have started to build for me And make myself at home, beloved. |

The sky is clear The sun shining Its intensity draws you Urges you to join it Unable to resist, you go outside What before seemed like heat Is now no more than a warm caress Relaxing and soothing You and it merge into a pool of liquid light All else fades away Time stops as you expand in awareness Now you shine A voice from a million miles away calls "You don't belong there" But it lies A desperate act from an ego lost and adrift You ignore it And you dance. |

| [ | mood |
| | lonely | ] | The Buddha says Desire is suffering Why must he be right? Knowing my pain Is of my own making Lacks any semblance of comfort Offers no peace in the night.
Sometimes I grow weary Of being the one in charge. Exhilerated, yet exhausted How I long to be buoyed up Floating on love's lake Why does it take the sum of my tears To make me able to float?
My personal sun shines above me Its warmth like a mother's caress Sustaining and life-affirming It gives me what I need to survive Fuels my dreams Past, present and future Knows me better than I know myself.
And yet I still long for another star in the sky Fiery hot Overwhelming in its intensity Until I surrender to it Tear off my clothes Cry out to it for mercy.
But what is mercy to a star? And where am I to run? Burning with desire Unable to reach it I fall into the salty water Cleansing and stinging The price for foolishness.
Every time I go outside The damage mounts I look for the cancer on the surface Forgetting that it's the darkness within Growing with every fear Speaking in painful heartache That will prove fatal. |
