question
So maybe a couple of issues ago, there was a watch featured in bust that had a wooden band. does anyone still have the issue so I can try and find that? I'd really appreciate the brand or website that was given for it. Thanks! | | Sunday, November 4th, 2007 | 5:28 pm [forbiddeneve]

Women's magazines... I could expound for a long time on how much I hate them, but I found this in a past post on one of My other blogs:
"it never ceases to amaze me at how people judge based on this intrinsic belief that we all exist for each other's approval. and dont even get me started on women's magazines. ive never read such utter distructive crap in my life. honestly. way to go in supporting womankind. every article is written in a way that sements the social opinion of a stereotypical woman. we dont all live to be thin and adored. we dont all fall apart cos some guy who cant appreciate a woman leaves us. we are not all self hating, desperate damsels in distress so stop feeding us this crap as if we are!
i hav more than half a mind to start a magazine that ends the distructive and totally WRONG opinion of women. and its women doing it to each other! where is the magazine for chicks who know better?"
I recently saw a post on a LJ Feminist community of UK girls asking if there was a good UK feminist magazine.
Now let me just say one thing. I consider myself a NEO-FEMINIST. And I call it this because I am PRO-WOMEN and NOT anti-men like the majority of people think Feminism is about. Also, the more I delve into Feminism, the more I realise a lot of it is about political issues and thats totally cool cos a lot of politics need changing to include women and not relegate them to "just women so they dont matter as much".
But thats a whole other ball game.
Feminism to me is about liberating the minds of Women so they start realising what they are about and whats the biggest educator of Women in the world? Magazines. And every single magazine is utter SHITE! 101 ways to please your man in bed. 23 creams to apply so you look better in order to attract a man. Shoes and lingerie that will truss you up to please men. Its like these magazines are written by men. But they are not. And what does THAT say about Women of today? We are all STILL living in this patriarchal idea of what Women should be - as servants to men. And yet, there are so many men who get off on strong, independent, enlightened, liberated Women. Men WANT Women to be the strong creatures that we are. Men WANT us to do our own thing. The biggest attractor for men is NOT the size of your breasts, the colour of your eyes or the length of your legs, its CONFIDENCE and confidence cannot live in a place where there is only self-doubt which is shoved down our throats in every face cream, lingerie and sexual prowess article in our magazines.
More than once I have fantasised about starting a magazine for chicks who dont relate to what we are being fed. And I DONT want it to be a "Feminist" magazine as such. I just want it to be PRO WOMEN, supportive, a magazine that shows you that you are just fucking perfect as you are, that you dont need a million creams and a knack at deep throating to be a successful human being. | | Friday, November 2nd, 2007 | 6:09 pm [asher63]

The Queen's Courtesan - our story so far http://asher813.typepad.com/fiction/Chapter 40 - The shadow of the past. Somewhere in a small club in a corner of the colony on Planet 138, two old cops are sipping kala. "Chief," Inspector Shihar is saying, "you know that accident we were talking about before - the one that killed a woman on a construction crew a few years ago?" "Mhmmm...?" the Chief responds warily. "What ever happened to the book?" "Book? What book?" Garris' expression is one of studied innocence. "Yeah. That one." "The book that doesn't exist." Chief Garris looks off into the distance. * * * In a driverless autocar in the city of Dharfid on the planet Shakti, two men from earth ride silently in the company of four Gilkesh officials. They're scheduled to attend a very important meeting with Queen Kathris, but they have the indefinable yet unmistakable feeling that they are being placed under arrest. Both men are nervous; one of them is very nervous. * * * On a rooftop garden somewhere in the reaches of the Palace itself, the other Queen looks up at the stars and then down at the city. Somewhere out there in the city, there's a girl. Amira knows she must stop. But she cannot stop. And that's when her wrist communicator chimes. ... http://asher813.typepad.com/fiction/2007/11/the-shadow-of-t.html | | Sunday, October 21st, 2007 | 11:47 pm [asher63]

The Lounge These Days
Back in 2000, I was all over the Bust Lounge like a hobo on a ham sammich. Loved it! I had a horrible, repressive shite job and every afternoon looked forward to posting and laughing my ass off. Since my Matilda baby popped in 2003, I've just been a total fuck-off and never post. But sometimes I miss some of the old names and conversations. So, if any of yall remember me (Lynnbomb) and still post there, tell me what's hopping and fun lately, or if going back is worth the time. | | Thursday, June 7th, 2007 | 10:03 am [stormkpr]

Paperbackswap.com in BUST's lastest issue
The latest issue of BUST had a great article on online book swapping websites. I joined one of the sites mentioned, Paperbackswap.com and I love it! I've already received 3 of the books I requested in the mail, and I just joined last week. It's simple and easy to use. And it's free. I'd like to see more feminist and BUSTalicious books available on the site, and that will happen when more of us BUSTies join up and get our friends to join as well. So check it out and tell your friends. It is too much fun! P.S. - When you refer a friend who joins, you receive one book credit for the referral. | | Sunday, April 1st, 2007 | 3:08 pm [pandora04]

Spring cleaning question for Busties
I was going to post this to the lounge, but I couldn't figure out where to post it. I'm moving soon and cleaning up my bookshelves by getting rid of some mags, old issues of Bust among them. I don't want to throw the Bust into the trash but I want to donate them to like a girls home but where can one find one that's more secular cause I know the crazy Christian-run ones wouldn't approve of some of the content. I was going to drop them off at the local library but fear the same censorship since I currently live in the "buckle" of the bible belt. Any ideas? I'm also willing to mail them to Busties as well. New Community! New Community!
Hi all, Just a quick shameless promotion for a new community: whole_broads. It's brand-new, just a few members (mostly busties) who want a place to talk about eating/living/being healthy, but hopefully with a cool feminist, bustie-type vibe. A place for us to talk about this stuff without boring/triggering our friends, too. So if you're interested, please join! | | Tuesday, January 16th, 2007 | 9:48 am [tesao]

The Queen's Courtesan (fiction) - new episode
"The Queen's Courtesan" - our story so far: http://asher813.typepad.com/fiction/Kathris doesn't look anything like Dess was envisioning her. She's poised and elegant, solemn and worried-looking ... in short, a middle-aged woman with a lot on her mind. Seated to one side of her at the circular table is an elderly, professorial-looking woman whom Kathris introduces as her science adviser; the name, when the Queen gives it, sounds familiar to Dess, and she realizes with a jolt that the same name appeared as the author of one of the standard textbooks she studied in University. (Dess prays that the subject of her grades won't come up.) On the other side of Kathris is the Homeworld Security Chief, who looks (Dess thinks irreverently) rather witchlike; Dess wonders if she has the ability to read minds. The fifth chair is empty. "One of my senior advisers couldn't be here," Kathris explains, "she had other commitments. Now then, as to the reason we're here. I'll make it short and sweet: There's something strange happening in outer space." ( continueCollapse ) | | Thursday, December 21st, 2006 | 12:25 pm [asher63]

Fiction: "The Queen's Courtesan" (new episode). Our story so far.New episode:We do not know what the stars looked like from Shakti, but we believe its binary sun was located about halfway between the Galactic Center and the Rim. To a Human, the plane of the Galaxy would appear as a faint band of stars, like the "milk-white road" they can see in the night skies of Earth. For the Gilkesh, it would appear as a blazing arc of light and color. And it might have been rising in the sky during the early evening hours, with the glare of daylight fading, when three Gilkeshna arrived on the Homeworld. The autocar speeds from the spaceport to the center of the Capital City. Joli, Dess, and Atubis have bypassed customs with a special clearance from the Palace. The Hunger of Lilith waits patiently in a hangar; she needs some routine maintenance, and she's got a lot to think about. Although they're not in any immediate danger, both Dess and Joli carry sidearms when they're on the Homeworld, especially in the Capital City. Dess wants to beg Atubis to carry - a weapon for self-defense isn't against the rules of her Order - but Dess knows what she'll say: "I don't like guns." *** There's a hole in space at the center of the Galaxy. ... Magazine Question
Hey Busties with LJs Who Regularly Read The Magazine: Do you know if BUST has ever done an Around the World in 80 Girls on the Minneapolis/St. Paul area? Obviously I'm from this and I'm interested in pitching a feature on it if it hasn't already been done. Thanks in advance! Lynn Bomb |
