reposted from meatpuppets@yahoogroups.com
good news for all the fans out there...the meat puppets are already back in the studio making a new record in their home town of phoenix, AZ !!
With a few years of touring and working together the band is better than ever and ready to put out a serious record.
even better news? Elmo Kirkwood, of Kirkwood-Dellinger, is one of the producers of the album.
(if you haven't heard lead singer Curt Kirkwood son's band Kirkwood-Dellinger, I suggest to go to their myspace and learn more about them....)
the record will have the same meat puppets sound inspired by the desert, but this time it will be mixed with the strange and dark world of Elmo's mind making this new record closer to the early meat puppets.
more coming soon........

Ears still ringing. All the rumours are true. It's not the well-oiled machine of Golden Lies-era Puppets, nor the approachable pop of volcano, nor the sensative introspection of curt's solo ventures. It's the endulgent, happenstance-as-art energy of the trio of old. Ted endulged Curt while Curt indulged himself, and Cris, like the soul of a hyper child trying to opperate an old man's weathered body, walking the fine line tweenst the two. Curt was overjoyed (all the stories are true - he was all smiles). Cris had an air of pride to him, especially during a rousing rendition of his own song "Station". And when he thanked the crowd after the initial set, and again after the encore, you got the feeling he really meant it.
The best tune of the night was "Look At The Rain" which embodied the sense of abandonment and gracious abundance of the the renuinion. "Snow" was electric in more ways than one. The jams were pure indulgence, sometimes just plane silliness with curt and cris both pounding atonally on their instruments like hippie drums. And the insturmental at the end of "Climb" played like and outer-space rock-n-roll lullabye.
the playlist is as follows:
Attacked By Monsters Touchdown King Snow Up On The Sun Platue Look At The Rain (best song) Medly: -Lost -Working On A Building (trad.) -Whistling Song -? (was this an extention of TWS, or was he whistling the melody from some other song?) Severed Goddess Hand Buckaroo Blues (marty robbins) My Babys Gone (chris hillman) Station Comin' Down Oh, Me Never To Be Found Lake Of Fire
encore ------ Clime Sleepy Pee Pee (paul leary) Backwaters

London released a promotional 12" vinyl pressing of "Too High To Die" which included a bonus 10" disc called Raw Meat. Raw Meat includes an updated recording of Up On The Sun, and three covers: El Paso City, White Sport Coat, and Goodnight Irene.
I am deperately looking to aquire these 4 rare tracks. If anyone has these songs ripped or has any leads as to where I could purchase Raw Meat or the vinyl Too High To Die with the bonus disc, it would be severely appreciated.

2:53 pm - Meat Puppets Reunion!!
|

dace
|
That's right, kids! Curt and Cris are going into the studio to record the first Meat Puppets record in 11 years (no, Golden Lies doesn't count)! Derrick has turned down an invitation to participate in the project. He will be replaced by Primus drummer, Tim Alexander.
says Curt:
"I've got the album written already. I'm going to record it on my own and then see who wants to put it out. It's epic. It's big Meat Puppets stuff. I haven't seen my brother since like 1998, but I'm talking to him a lot. He's been clean for more than two years and he's all raring to go. Cris' resurrection is no less than miraculous -- it's like a Lazarus-type thing. I was just like, 'If Cris is back, I know his frame of mind.' If he's upright and walking, it's hard to knock him down."
The forthcoming reunion is slated to manifest an album sometimes early 2007. It's no joke, people.
And speaking of No Joke!, MeatPuppets.com is sporting a 9-song set of studio demos from the No Joke! sessions, including the unreleased "Vaseline", "Not Now", and Buck Owens's instrumental classic "Buckaroo".
Check it out!

11:07 am - Q&A with Curt
|

dace

01. Describe the moment in which music changed your life.
I always liked music as far as I can recall, but after a small plane I was in crashed near Hudson Bay in ‘76 (I was on my way to a summer fishing guide job in the arctic; no one was seriously injured) I decided to become a musician -- a fairly new fantasy for me at the time.
02. I wish I wrote this song, and why.
Anything other than the stuff I write. I'm sick of myself. Maybe something about an hour long in Swedish, Thai or Navajo.
03. If I could have been at any concert in history, what would it have been, and why?
Hank Williams in a small nightclub; so I could get drunk and see Hank Williams in a small nightclub.
04. What have you blatantly stolen and incorporated into your songwriting or performance?
A great many things -- you name it.
05. With a gun to your head, describe your music.
An inexpensive trip into an ecstatic state of alienation and depression.
06. One thing I hate about the music business is:
Not a thing. I was made for this; I'm totally hollow.
07. Who is the artist your parents or older sibling listened to that you swore you would never like but have come to appreciate?
I'm the eldest child, raised by a mother who didn't listen to too much music. She used to sing Leadbelly and Burl Ives to me but I liked them then as I do now.
08. What song could you never cover because it's just too damn good and you'd be afraid to ruin it?
I'm not afraid to ruin anything.
09. What's one creature comfort you crave while on the road?
Home cooked food.
10. I can die after I've met:
Michael Jackson, Gary Busey or Richard Nixon. However any of these encounters would make me immortal so...... (I've already met Courtney Love and Tom Cruise so I'm nearly omnipotent)
11. What's your favorite poison?
Beef.
12. The best way to ride out a hangover?
Relax and enjoy.
13. If you were a Simpsons character, which one would you be, any why?
Homer, so I could make the sweet love to beautiful Marge.
14. Rate these bands best to worst: Journey, Styx, Foreigner, Kansas. Explain your reasoning.
Journey, Kansas, Foreigner, Styx -- personal preference.
15. You've become King/Queen of the world, what's your first move?
Abdicate the throne, renounce all government and declare every day "world freedom day."

<td> </td><td> For those of you that don't know, Curt released his first solo album, "Snow", last week. It was produced by (Forbidden Places producer) Pete Anderson and released on his label, Little Dog Records.
It's brilliant, of course. The whole thing has a twangy folk feel to it. It's gentle and (mostly) unplugged.
A warning to any hard-core fans: Curt scrapped "Strangely Familiar" for parts to construct "Gold" (the 5th track on Snow).
Order it here.
Quothe Curt, "It’s not for me to explain my songs; I don’t even know if that’s possible. Making music has always been an intensely personal experience for me. It’s like doing brain surgery on myself – I don’t know what I’m doing exactly, but I’m bound to hit a few nerves."</td>

Hi, I started this community because I noticed that there isn't a lot of Meat Puppets/Curt Kirkwood communities. I'm not good at running communities, so if you want, advertise this community places so more people join it.
