Title(s): The Art of Procrastination and Structuralism Lullaby Author: me Genre: poetry Summary: songwriting assignment for English 400 Author Notes: The Art of Procrastination was a freebie; I could write any kinds of lyrics I wanted for one of the songs. But the other one had to be in the style of Bob Dylan; hence, Structuralism Lullaby. If you are in any way familiar with Dylan, please let me know if I hit the nail on the head, or if I'm waaay off, or what-have-you. Now excuse me while I do some last minute studying for the stupid midterm. ( no tune, just lyrics.Collapse ) |

Sorry it's been so long. Probally late to reply to some of this stuff. I'll still try to go through it next few days. till then here's something I came up with a while back. Title: I want to be a poet? Author: Me Genre: Poetry Summary: About wanting to write poetry Author Notes: This was for a poetry slam type thing. So it was just off the top of your head, no editing or nothing. So this is exactly what I wrote. I want to write poetry, good poetry, bad poetry, poetry that slams. Those poems that save other peoples souls. While I try to save my own. Poems that make you say That guy is a perv. I want my poems to have rhythm and rhyme. But not all of the time. Personal poems that follow no rules at all, Sound fine to me too. Poems that last three minutes or less. Leaving the judges thinking that guy can slam. Or poems that go on forever and ever, With no real meaning except to me. I want to come up with great original ideas. As well as borrow one or two. Being able to write poems That maker you remember sadness and joy and love and hate would be such a wonderful thing. So would writing to make you remember the stabbing pain of loss. Or what it was like to be struck dumb from the first sight of my loves beauty Or the sweet taste of her kisses. I want to write about my romantic nights. To put words to my orgasms. or the awkwardness of that first time with a new lover. I want to write poetry with truths that make you think. And silly poems about Batman and Gilligian?s Island. I want to be a poet. |

Title: What's a Girl To Do? (in the lyrical style of Robert Johnson's "Love In Vain") Author: Moi Genre: poetry Summary: a 12-bar blues song Author Notes: not lj-cutting it because it's pretty short. I traversed BSU in a Rip Van Winkle daze I traversed BSU in a Rip Van Winkle daze Now the past is crystal clear and the future is a haze What's a girl to do? Essays flow from my fingertips like wine at a wedding Essays flow from my fingertips like wine at a wedding Yet the semesters wither like blue* petals, shedding What's a girl to do? I swim through canon text like a goldfish in a tank I swim through canon text like a goldfish in a tank But graduation day has its gun against my flank What's a girl to do? PhD or wait and see? Peace Corp or something more? Work awhile? Not my style, What's a girl to do? * http://www.weimarband.com/WBBF/_pagesMAIN/BFsub01a_symbol.html Originating with the poetry of Novalis, the image of the blue flower was used by German romantic poets of the 18th and 19th centuries to symbolize the ongoing search for artistic perfection. It evolved into an emblem of hope; a symbol for the simultaneous end to and beginning of all things, for reinvention and reincarnation, for the idea that after failing time again, we can keep returning, each time having an opportunity to do things a little less badly. |
