Group to discuss ONIX implementation questions and announcements

ONIX for Books is EDItEUR’s international standard for representing and communicating book industry product information for use in the global book, e-book and audiobook trade. It provides a comprehensive XML-based framework for book metadata, and can be used in any language or country for both physical and digital products. If you’re not familiar with ONIX, there is a short pre-recorded webinar available to that introduces it.

This list is open to – and thus any postings you make to the group are visible to – any current or prospective user of the ONIX standard, whether member or non-member of EDItEUR, at any level of expertise. Discussion on the list ranges from the most introductory level to the most advanced. The list acts as the forum for questions about the implementation or interpretation of ONIX standards, for raising any practical problems which need to be addressed in future releases, and for participating in discussion aimed at finding the best solutions that can be applied across the industry.

As a professional forum, the list’s members generally use their real names and – often – their corporate e-mail addresses, although some choose to use a generic name or e-mail address to obscure their employment details or for reasons of commercial confidentiality. Particular issues and queries can be ‘anonymised’ in that way if necessary, but the most commercially-sensitive questions should be directed instead to info@editeur.org so they can be answered on a fully confidential basis by EDItEUR. Advertising or disparagement of particular products and services is not allowed, although incidental mention of products and services in the context of particular issues is fine. Be civil to other members of the list, and remember, ‘we are all in this together’.

This group is also a channel for EDItEUR announcements about ONIX, including announcements of new releases and revisions of the standard itself, the implementation and best practice guide, and the ONIX codelists. EDItEUR can be contacted at info@editeur.org
