About the program

WordPress Credits is a contribution-based program by the .WordPress Foundation that connects higher education students with the global open source community. It offers real-world experience with mentorship to help students fulfill academic requirements while contributing directly to WordPress.

Launched with the University of Pisa and announced at WordCamp Europe 2025, the program continues to grow, fostering collaboration between students, universities, and companies across the WordPress ecosystem.

How it works

The program typically runs for an academic semester and follows three main phases:

  • Onboarding
  • Wrap-Up

Through the program, students collaborate with volunteers and professionals from companies in the WordPress ecosystem.

Onboarding

Students receive training on WordPress tools, community culture, and open source collaboration while connecting with mentors and local teams.

Project Work

Students develop a personal contribution project in their area of interest, such as translation, content creation, event organization, development, or design.

Wrap-Up

Students present their work, share reflections, and help improve the program for future participants.
