| big sister/ little sister brainstorming |
[04 Jul 2006|04:46pm] |
hey juniors!
hope your summers are going well! the class board is trying to figure out how to improve big sisters/little sisters for next year. one of the ideas we have is that at the first year rally for convocation, the juniors group the firsties by dorms/quads to explain convocation, put red facepaint on them, etc. my question is would juniors actually come to this event or will everyone be too excited about seeing friends to participate?
if you have any other ideas, please post them!
thanks so much!!!

| Dane Cook |
[20 Jan 2006|12:20pm] |

I have an extra ticket to see Dane Cook at the Boston Garden on April 15th. It is a Lodge 9 seat (which is pretty good). I paid 90 dollars for it, so I would like to sell it for as much, or the best offer. If you do want to go, you can pick up a ride with my friends and I to and from if you need it. Pleeeease help me out?

I have two tickets to see Dane Cook in NYC at Madison Square Garden on Sept. 16th (a Friday)at 8 pm. They are great seats, on the floor. I can't arrange for transportation (damn you, shitty car) so I am willing to sell them. I paid $120 for them. I am looking for full price, but I will go for best offer. I can arrange to get them to you once I am back on my campus.

[25 Aug 2005|11:55am] |
You don't even leave for another six days and your stuff is already packed. You eagerly await the first day of constitutional law. You spend about as much time mentally organizing your dorm room as you spend avoiding cleaning your actual at-home room. You worry not about not having enough activities, but about fitting them all into 24 short hours. You are already planning your Las Vegas Night outfit.
Is anyone else experiencing this ? x posted to mhc

[11 Apr 2005|10:31pm] |
Hey there!
Thanks, everyone who got out and voted! SGA elections are still up in the air and will be settled after their meeting tomorrow night, but the class board for next year has been decided, and I'm on it! Thanks again... I'm going to do my best to make this an awesome year for all of us!
Just an update as I understand it, results will also be published in Newsflush soon. President- Priti Rao Vice President- Solange Franklin Secretary- Sally Brzozowski Treasurer- Liliya Cvetanova Social Chair- DJ Ortua
And on a totally unrelated note, I think spring may actually have arrived! Hey, at least FacMan thinks it has, they put out the lawn chairs, which is festive enough for me, for now at least! And everyone told me I was silly for packing up my winter clothes. :)
(Plus, a cheer for the Red Sox getting their championship rings and then crushing the Yankees in the home opener. It doesn't get much better than that...)
Have a great week, let's hope ISIS doesn't let us down and we get the classes we want! ~Sally

| Class of '08 elections! |
[05 Apr 2005|09:43pm] |
Hey, First-year friends!
I'm Sally Brzozowski, and I'm running for Class Board 2008 Secretary. I hope you're all planning on voting in the elections in the next few days. Voting takes place in Blanchard during lunch and dinner.
If elected class secretary, I will bring experience, potential, and enthusiasm to the position. I was on my class executive board in high school, and I know how to get things done efficiently and effectively. I have some new ideas for the class which can help us all become more unified.
One of my plans for the benefit of our entire class is my plan to create a Class of 2008 website. We were supposed to have one this year, but it never got off the ground. I want to look at the other choices, but one option might be to make a class LIVEJOURNAL so you can easily find the information that's important to YOU (on your friends' page, of all places!) and have a way to contact your class board easily, with comment options, etc.
Last of all but not least important, I love Mount Holyoke and I love our class. I want to make next year amazing, for all of us.
Thanks, have a wonderful night, and no matter who you vote for, DON'T FORGET TO VOTE!!!
~Sally Brzozowski

| Write in Class of '08 Social Chair |
[05 Apr 2005|12:13am] |
|
Hi gals! Jennifer Udden here... I am going to be a write-in candidate for social chair of the class of 2008! My platform, you ask?
I will make sure there are fun things to do every single month.
These things will not be limited to the regular ice cream social and movie nights (although those will happen to.) I will try to plan trips (the voyage kind, you whackos,) parties (good ones,) social events of all kinds- just tell me what you want, and I'll make it so, like captain kirk on star trek.
SO:
WRITE IN: JENNIFER UDDEN for CLASS OF 2008 Social Chair
whilst voting in Blanchard April 6-8! I will be IN blanchard so please make an effort to get out and vote so that next year can ROCK!
p.s. please come out and vote.

My friend Erica Smith sent me this email today. So if any of you have time, help her out!!!
and I quote:
Hey ladies,
Stefanie [Foxworth] and I need more participants for our study, so if any of you have from 7:45 until 9 o'clock available tonight you should come particpate in the Advertising and Stress study! :) You will be entered into a raffle to win a 5 dollar gift certificate to Barnes & Noble, and since most people are taking the study for research credit you will all win the raffle. Even if you can't take it tonight...if you can take it any other time in the near future we can make special arrangements for you. Please get back to me! Thanks so much, ladies!
xoxo Erica Smith
p.s. if you know any other people who would be interested in getting either 1.5 psych research credits or entered in the B&N raffle then direct them towards me! The more the merrier :)

[23 Feb 2005|03:49pm] |
hey all! I'm just posting to let you all know that there will be an organizational meeting of the RADICAL CHEERLEADERS tonight @6 in the Women's Center!
For anyone who might be innocent of such knowledge, radical cheerleading is protest + performance. It is cheerleading for social justice; it's activism with pom-poms and a serious "attitude problem." It's fun, non-violent, direct action.
We're starting ground up and will really need people to help make this work. Neither I nor the woman I'm working with in organizing this have been radical cheerleaders previously, so this will be a very new experience to both. But, we are excited, we are going to start a squad, and we ARE going to have intense, deplorable amounts of fun. Not to even mention the cathartic benefits of yelling.
Anyway, I hope so see some of you there, it should be an awesome group, and we hope to get a lot of people, the more the merrier!
no previous cheerleading experience necessary, believe me...
hope to see you there!

First of all thanks to everyone who has told me they are coming to the party, I appreciate it. I may be a bit of a Type A personality when it comes to party planning, but I would really like to know who is coming rather than just having 50 people (or no one) show up at my door on Saturday. So if you're coming and haven't spoken to me yet please comment here, call me, IM me, send smoke signals, whatever. Also considering all I have in my room is three granola bars, a couple of diet cokes, and 1/2 a bottle of rum, any donations of food or drinks or cups would be hugely appreciated. If you're bringing something, please let me know so I don't waste money at the Big Y.
So remember: 8:00, Brigham 212, pre-Semi party, be there!

Okay that's it-- the springies need a taste of the cooler side of Mount Holyoke and I need out of my depression so I'm inviting everyone to a Sophomore Semi pre-party this Saturday night. I believe I am the only person with a single on this board and it's a fairly large one so it makes sense it should be me I guess. I can probably provide some food and drinks but anyone who can bring more stuff will be loved forever by me. Questions, comments, RSVPs? Leave a message here, IM me at themoviegirl84, or e-mail me at hgbluesparkles @ hotmail.com. Hope to see all of you there! Oh and just so everyone knows, the Sophomore Semi is open to everyone and is $10 for non-sophomores, $7 for sophomores, and it will be a good time so go!
EDIT: I'm stupid and forgot to mention that my room is Brigham 212 and the fun will start around 8 on Saturday.

Peopleeeeeee. In light of my excitement that the two new Bright Eyes LPs are on their pretty little way to me and should be arriving any day now, I was just posting again to ask who, in fact, got a ticket to the show for the 24th. I know a bunch of us talked about it, but I haven't talked to anyone since. My mom's bugging me to know how in the world I'm getting there and with whom and the like, so I figured I'd toss it out there again for discussion.
So, anyone get a ticket? Anyone, anyone? Bueller, Bueller? ♥

[28 Nov 2004|04:43pm] |
Hey girls. This is a shot in the dark, but my name's Kathleen (I know you know this) and I love Bright Eyes. And Bright Eyes is playing a show at Harvard on Monday, January 24th. Yes, this is two days before spring semester classes begin.
Now, this is like, the best thing ever, right? Right. Er, except getting there and then getting back is sort of a problem. My only option right now is either whoring myself out on the side of the road to some stranger headed east or taking an Amtrak train into Boston and then a cab over to Harvard. Now, okay, the latter is all all well and good. I'd do anything to go to this show. Anything. Buuuuut, then there's the problem of what to do that night. The show starts at 8PM, is billed at 3 hours long, and there's no train back our way until around 11:45AM the next morning. Hotel room prices are through the roof, etc. and shacking up with Conor Oberst or some random indie kid at the show doesn't seem like such a solid plan, haha.
So, uh, that was a whole lot of writing to ask -- does anyone here like Bright Eyes and/or planning on going to the show? I have one friend interested in accompanying me, but I figured I'd put it out there. I figured maybe I'd get lucky and someone with a car might jump at the chance to haul me to Cambridge. I'll keep dreaming, I know.
Even if you don't want to come or whatever -- suggestions? Thanks girls. ♥

[28 Oct 2004|11:22pm] |
I think the last time I actually wrote anything sorta similar to journal was in 6th grade. Anywayz, I am starting one from now on. Awesome. What did I do today? Let's see...I took my midterm for history class... it wasn't that bad considering I fell asleep everytime I try to read anything from that boring ass textbook. And then chem lab... PAIN...pure pain... Wow...my life is soo interesting!! Oh! and I washed dishes! $6.75! wohoo! i need all the mulla i can get. I walked around with DJ...Looked at people curving pumpkins...ate a pack of crakers with my diet coke... I am so addicted to diet coke... i need help.... Aight, I need my life back! Lately, my days are so freaking plain and boring... I need some excitement! I miss NY, my bad mama jamma friends, drinking, my car... Drinking in my car with my crazyass friends...pissing on grass covered in snow in bare asses...Raving in da city... Seriously, I saw MHC as one of the most Sober schools in Princeton review book, but heck... for REAl?? This school needs some sparkles... But still... I love this school...I don't even know why... it depresses me... Ok---ay... I am gonna stop now. Awesome.

I'm not actually at Holyoke yet, although I am a 2008 student--I'm a spring admit. I'm relatively new to livejournal as well, and I'm starting to poke about at Mount Holyoke communities because I think I'm about ready to start spazzing about going, although I know I'm going to love it at Holyoke. All the same, it's going to be somewhat of a change, and I want to ease myself into it as nicely as possible so nothing blows up when I actually go.
So, yeah. I guess to start off about introducing myself, the best thing to say would be that I'm one of those really weird people who is quiet and sits in the corner with wide eyes at first but slowly becomes more and more sarcastic, loud, trusting, and friendly as time goes on. So I guess what I want to do by randomly talking to you folks now is avoid the silence at the beginning of my time at Holyoke as much as possible and actually know some people when I get there.
Um. Yeah. I'm in a weird mood tonight; oddly that's all I can think of to say. Really, I usually tend to talk a lot. . .
|
|
| Wow I am slow |
[03 Oct 2004|09:03pm] |
Hm. I guess I missed the train for this community! So here is a mandatory lame introduction post.
My name's Hannah and I am over in 402 MacGregor. Yeah. It's a long walk.
My boyfriend actually pointed me in the direction of this community, and I think it's awfully super spiffy! I am not really making many friends here (I won't even try to wonder why) so I thought maybe this would be a good way to try to infiltrate myself into the community (both on LJ and in reality). So in an effort to make people think I am cooler than I actually am, this is me in a nut shell: I like politics and art and spend way too much time at Hampshire College. I desperately want to party but I don't drink ( I am in it for the dancing, I swear). I plan on majoring in English and Psych/Ed ( I want to be a secondary english teacher). I am talkative and stubborn and not as polite as my parents would have liked.
You can always check out my journal or just come by (if you want the exercise). I am really looking for people to hang out with and be friends with so... yeah.
I can't believe it's only 9 o'clock. I am so exhausted...
Beijinhos, Hannah

[24 Sep 2004|11:53am] |
Welp I could sit here and pretend that I'm making all these friends here at Mount Holyoke... but I'm not, so why bother? Here's the thing though people should like me just because I know the area really well, have a car, and know all the cool things to do. Below I've made a list of all the activities I'm interested in doing sometime soon. If you're also interested in doing any of these activities comment here, call, stop by room, etc. and we'll plan something nifty. If you don't know what any of these things are ask.
*Go to Claytopia in Northampton and paint some pottery.
*Shelburne Falls and the glacial potholes.
*Yankee Candle Company
*The Book Mill
*Random bumming around New England
*Going to music shows in Northampton
*Amherst parties
*November 13th-- See the last show of one of Massachusetts best ska bands ever, Skarmy of Darkness, at the Shed (yes, it's an actual shed!)
*Go to the movies
THat's what I've thought of so far. But I'm really game for anything. I'm sick of just sitting in my room with very few friends and I need that to end. So yeah...

It's Mountain Day!!!
And I'm very happy!!!
But now exceedingly pissed off for a few reasons:
1. I knew it was going to be Mountain Day, just knew it--but when I asked an S.A. last night she said "Oh, no, we got the signs today but they always come a week in advance, it will be next week."
2. It is Mountain Day and THE BELLS STARTED GOING HAYWIRE AT SEVEN AM!
3. It is Mountain Day and I woke up the earliest I ever have on a school day here.
But oh well, it's Mountain Day and I have three classes cancelled and didn't complete my work for any of them.
Party time!

Okay, this is for Guster fans and potential Guster fans only!
This summer I became a rep for Guster, and I am selling Guster CDs at $10 apiece, a significant discount from the store prices. I need five orders before I can send the order in. So, if you're interested, comment, email me at emerald18@cox.net, or call my room at 5312 and let me know which CDs you want to buy and how many. If you're not sure if you like Guster or not or which CDs to buy, you can check them out here. (Sorry, can't get the live one.)
Oh, and for the record, I don't get any money out of this deal, just some Guster goodies, so don't think I'm overcharging you or anything.
Thanks, Kate
//EDIT: Okay, so I was in a rush the first time, so let me just clarify that I AM NOT TRYING TO PUSH GUSTER'S MUSIC ON ANYONE. But I know there are fans here, and if you were thinking about buying a CD anyway, I am offering you a cheaper alternative. And I know at least a few of you contacted me about this on my personal LJ earlier, so I'm just trying to organize the process a little. Sorry about any confusion.
