"I have made it a rule of my life never to regret and never to look back. Regret is an appalling waste of energy....You can't build on it; it's only good for wallowing in."

"We should be careful to get out of an experience only the wisdom that is in it - and stop there, lest we be like the cat that sits down on a hot stove lid. She will never sit on a hot stove lid again - and that is well, but also she will never sit down on a cold one anymore."

“You have to decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage—pleasantly, smilingly, non-apologetically—to say no to other things. And the way to do that is by having a bigger yes burning inside.”

"The thing about a hero, is even when it doesn't look like there's a light at the end of the tunnel, he's going to keep digging, he's going to keep trying to do right and make up for what's gone before, just because that's who he is."
-Joss Whedon
The light at the end of the tunnel is not an illusion.
The tunnel is.

Our dear
i_amthecosmos founded a new community called
fansforfans - a place for people across various fandoms who have mental illnesses/issues/whatchamacallit to gather. Whether you are seeking support, think you might be able to offer some, or both, you are welcome in this community. Check it out, and if you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask!
Aaaand as an apology for being absent so long, I am going to add a pretty to this post...

"speak quietly to yourself & promise there will be better days. whisper gently to yourself and provide assurance that you really are extending your best effort. console your bruised and tender spirit with reminders of many other successes. offer comfort in practical and tangible ways - as if you were encouraging your dearest friend. recognize that on certain days the greatest grace is that the day is over and you get to close your eyes. tomorrow comes more brightly..."

...is the
fuckinglovememe !
Apologies for the cursing if anyone is offended, but I admit that I effing love it anyway...
This community is responsible for both the "jesus christ I fucking love you let me smother you in my undying affection" meme, in which one starts a comment thread for all one's friends to tell you (anonymously or not) how much they love you, and for:
in which loving of all things is shared and celebrated, hurrah! <3

The past week saw the first slightly sunny, slightly warm(er) days of spring. Winter is almost over! Yay! It's also been the perfect couple of days to listen to one of my favourite bands, and because their music always puts a big smile on my face I figured I'd share a song here, in the hope that it will put a smile on your face, too :-)
I discovered "She & Him" after I saw 500 Days of Summer last year, bought the soundtrack and stumbled across the video of "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here". I've been basically listening to their albums nonstop. Zooey has a very unusual but lovely voice (and frankly I can't believe she writes all their original songs), and M Ward's guitar playing is to die for. Their music just makes me very happy. From their website:
So without further ado, I give you their most recent video. It's so shiny :-) Have a great week-end, everyone!

From their website:
She & Him make music for an eternal springtime, when the temperature is warm enough to go riding with the top (or at least the windows) rolled down and the radio turned up.
There are a lot of people who write music so that they can take their audience to a dark night of their own soul or to get something really heavy off their chest. I don’t think Zooey looks at music that way, and I think that’s a huge part of where her songwriting is coming from. Certain people write songs to make other people feel good. When I think about some of my favorite singers, like Sam Cooke or people of that generation, I think that they saw their gift as the ability to make people feel better, to feel happy. It’s contagious to be around people like that.”

OK, so I'm about a week late, but I just realized no one else had posted this here and was a bit surprised, haha... Skip to over halfway through the video if you want - that's where the sweet stuff starts!

Like the trees in winter, you can bend under the relentless fall of snow without breaking. Through your ability to accept and flow with honesty, you can sustain a grounded yet flexible stance of integrity and grace. When the storm clouds sail away, leaving an unimpeded sun in their wake, the ice that seemed immovable will drip into the earth, and its trickles will even nourish your roots as you blossom once more.

Happy Monday...
...and Happy Valentine's Day! :D
I know there are some people who are anti-Valentine's Day, and I don't want to hurt/offend/upset anyone with this picspam. When I look at Valentine's Day, I don't necessarily think of the love between partners, but loving a sibling, a friend, a pet, or hey, even yourself. Because, sometimes, I feel like we give ourselves the least love of all when we really deserve a heck of a lot more.
( So. This is a heart-heavy picspam. You have been warned. :)Collapse )

...and February has some special events going on!
First, we have National Random Acts of Kindness Week coming up tomorrow. Check out The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation for ideas or to get on board with the Extreme Kindness Challenge! After all, in spreading kindness, more is definitely more.
The following week then brings us National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. This issue is very near to my heart, and I can think of many ways in which the "more is more" message relates to self-care, self-love, body image, etc. - in addition to the self-expression themes that are always going strong around here!
Anyone have any inspiration, ideas, thoughts, or questions regarding these causes? Let's get talking!

"Often people attempt to live their lives backwards; they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want, so they will be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who you really are, then do what you need to do, in order to have what you want."
