Another drabble written for the community tammy_drabbles; inspired by the prompt: Pet Names. Keladry of Mindelan has never liked pet names...

Keladry of Mindelan has never liked pet names. They are too sappy to be sensible. So of course, she objects whenever any address her by anything besides Keladry and Kel.

Some don't listen. They go ahead and call the striking girl pet names anyway.

They learn not to only when a knife is placed against the bridge of their nose by the striking lady knight.

Kel put up with teasing pet names from Cleon because she knows that they are his sense of humor. Besides, Cleon is a giant, and when she was just ten years old, he was a //big// giant. And she didn't know how to use a sword or lance then. Not to mention she needed every ally she could get.

Now that she's a lady knight, you had better learn that Kel hates pet names. She //hates// them. Got it? Good. Your life may depend upon it someday.

So when Domitan of Masbolle strolls into the mess hall calling, "Pearldrop of my heart, you are a sight for sore eyes," she immediately resolves to sharpen her sword.

Better yet, she resolves to meet Dom alone some cold, dark night. Armed.

But unfortunately for her, Kel accidentally chances upon Dom in the gardens that very night. //Unarmed.//

Damn.

It is very hard for a girl to kill someone without a knife, particularly if the girl is presently being embraced and kissed by an extremely handsome sergeant. Especially if said girl is weak at the knees.

Damn again.

But then, Kel reflects virtuously, it's not //really// her fault. After all, if she hurt Dom, she would have to deal with one very angry Raoul. Even armed, she would not look forward to it.

So she tells herself, as Dom wraps his arms around her and murmurs sweet nothings in her ear. She accepts them and returns them in turn.

It simply proves that love makes fools of us all.

After all, even Neal would have to admit that "Jewel of my soul" and "Goddess of exquisiteness" are a little too extravagant.

This is a drabble written for the community tammy_drabbles; inspired by the prompt Time. Four snapshots of the life-changing moments of Sergeant Domitan of Masbolle.

A MINUTE:

"Quick boy!" bellowed the tall and burly soldier. "You're no pretty-boy anymore, but a member of the King's Own! Don't stand there gawping - start shooting at 'em Carthakis!"

Dom tightened his grip on his bow. To murder - to take away another human being's life. He couldn't do it, but he must. He drew back the string and let it fly. Zing! The arrow whistled through the air and struck a man squarely in the neck. Dom watched as he toppled and fell, blood pouring from the wound.

A minute. That was all it took to kill a man.

A DAY:

"Your brother Lornac is dead," his father informed him, his voice shaking. "The Scanran raiders killed him last week."

Dom's eyes widened in shock as the pain and grief spread through him. He had rode for almost a day, looking forward to seeing his parents and siblings, and now //this//. Tears streaked down his cheeks.

His father turned away from his only son, hiding the tears glittering in his eyes.

The steward stepped forward, his grey eyes cold. "No more shirking your responsibility, Domitan. //You// are the heir now, Domitan of Masbolle."

A day. That was all it took to change Dom's life.

A YEAR:

Dom grinned at Kel, blue eyes flashing in his weather-tanned face. "No more playing around now, squire," he told her mock-seriously. "This is the real deal now. Fighting 24/7 sound good to you?"

Kel grinned back. "Serving my lord sounds good to me," she replied.

"How about serving him up for dinner for a match-making mama?" he suggested wickedly.

A warm glow lit him inside as she laughed, hazel eyes sparkling with amusement. If he blushed, a blush would've spread across his cheeks.

A year. That was all it took to confirm that he was in love with Keladry of Mindelan.

AN ETERNITY:

He looked at her seriously for a moment, then got down on one knee. "Keladry of Mindelan, will you marry me?"

Tears sparkled in Kel's eyes as she smiled radiantly at him. "I will, Dom," she replied softly, half-laughing, half-crying. "I love you."

Dom sprang up and swept her into his arms. The two kissed, softly, in the pale moonlight.

An eternity. That was how long he wanted to be with his true love.
