One nice thing about putting the thing away for a couple of months before looking at it is that you start appreciate your own wit. Of course, this can be carried too far. Me, I'm still trying to strangle some original fiction. I finally figured out that I'm having a hard time with it because I don't really know what the antagonists want. I mean, I know they want to invade, thus making them the antagonists, but I don't really know why or exactly how they're going to go about doing it.

Have an original fiction that I've written about 1,500 words for so far. I'm stuck on the next scene.
Should I just keep writing the scenes as they come to me and then try to join them all up together, or should I try to write it all chronologically.
Almost all my SG-1 fanfic has been written chronologically with notes because I know from experience that I'm good at individual scenes but not so crash hot at connecting everything together. However, my JL fic 'Aftermath' which was written in about five days and encompasses 28,000 words was written in chunks that then were connected together. And it works very well.
So, opinions? Thoughts? How do you guys work with your muses? Chronologically, or chunk-style and then connecting it all together? |
