DOE DEERE

If you're not familiar with Doe Deere yet, let me briefly educate you---this young woman (real name Xenia) from Russia is a fabulously talented individual, pursuing her passions in the popular triad of music, makeup, and fashion. Not here to talk about her music or clothes, as fun as they may be, because her makeup is stunning and a post about it is long overdue. (Link at the very bottom.)

This is Doe Deere herself. Wearing her own line of makeup. Which she herself put on.

FRENCH MUSIC

I've been on a huge French kick lately, which means I've been playing the likes of Carla Bruni and others constantly on my iPod. Not only is Carla Bruni an accomplished singer and former model, she is also the First Lady of France...! But the others are definitely not without mention. Here are a few of my favorite French songs. (Clicking on a link will bring you to the download.)

Carla Bruni - La Dernière Minute
Édith Piaf - La foule
Camille - Le Festin
Frehel - Si tu n'etais pas la (as featured in Amélie)
Shiina Ringo - Papaya Mango

La Môme Piaf
Édith Piaf, France's greatest popular singer. She is famously known for the song "La vie en rose."

BLOOD TEA AND RED STRING

Christiane Cegavske

Blood Tea and Red String is a handmade stop-motion film by Christiane Cegavske that took 13 years to create. This dialogue-free film is described as a "fairy tale for adults." Along with fairy tale elements, it contains surrealism and horror. The basic premise is thus:

The Mice commission the Oak Dwellers to create a beautiful doll for them. When she is complete, the Creatures fall in love with her and refuse to give her up. Resorting to thievery the Mice abscond with her in the middle of the night.

2nd-May-2008 10:45 pm - Pablo Neruda: Love Sonnet XVII
cake
This poem is one of my favorites, and I think of it often and intimately.

SONNET XVII (17)
I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

than this: where I do not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.
