25 years ago today, (that’s 1987 for those who don’t want to do the math), the game changed for film vampires. Joel Schumacher and his very talented cast gave us sexy, hip, teenage vampires. Kiefer Sutherland’s David became the face of a vampire generation. We learned to…
Sleep all day. Party all night. It’s fun to be a vampire.
For anyone interested, the show Ghost Adventurers (which airs on the Travel Channel in the US; not sure on what in the rest of the world) was filming in Santa Cruz today. They shot footage of what they're calling "Lost Boys locations" -- the Looff Carousel and the stairs to the beach (though I'm pretty damn sure the Logger's Revenge was not featured in the movie...) -- so I'm sure it will be featured in the programme when it airs.
Which is anyone's guess as to when that is, since it is not mentioned.
Also, not exactly sure what a vampire movie has to do with ghost "hunting", but whatever.
There you have it.
All in time for the 25th Anniversary of The Lost Boys cinematic release on the 31st of this month.
(In other words, all us old timers just cried out in terror and wept, because we're getting old.)
Because I'm lame and after looking around, became very disappointed that something like this didn't already exist, I created a "Team David" logo. It's displayed on two different shirts at my CafePress store.
I'll probably wind up making designs for the other guys eventually, depending on whether I get requests for them or not (and I'll have to rotate them out, since I have the free store, and can only have one of each item, period).

Hey, I know I'm new here and I may not stay long, but I just wanted to share my awesome used book sale find with some peoples who will appreciate its sheer awesomeness:
The novelization of The Lost Boys, which my google-fu tells me would fetch me at least $45. I paid fifty freaking cents. $0.50 for this awesome piece of movie tie-in goodness.

For those who haven't seen the tragedy that is Lost Boys: The Tribe TNT is airing it tonight at 10:45pm after The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. No word on how cut down it will be, as they will probably edit down the "R" version. Which will leave a ten minute movie when you think about it.
So yeah, that was fast. Why they never run the original superior film is beyond me.
Title: How Far? Author: D. Cat Davis (Vila Wolf) Rating: R (possibly to be NC-17) Warnings: Language, Implied Sexual Situations, Vampiric Violence Summary: David saves Edgar from a very bad situation / Edgar Pain, and Edgar/David Semi-Slash Pairing: David/Edgar Length: 2152 words Beta Reader: Microsoft Word's Spell Check? Verses: The Original Lost Boys film, The Lost Boys novella, The Reign of Frogs comic books, and Lost Boys The Tribe
This story is Edgar Pain, and Edgar/David Semi-Slash, I'm not too sure how far I'm going to take the relationship yet. While I've always been a secret Edgar/David Shipper I've never admitted it and this is the first slash fic I've ever written. It came about by my browsing various screen caps from LB The Tribe, and reading the first three Reign of Frogs comics. I know this will cause me to loose friends.

finally arrived in the post this morning! Issue one of Lost Boys: Reign of Frogs! KAPOW! The four part series, supposedly linking the first and second movie, features Edgar and Alan and all their vampire run-ins. To be honest, I wasn't expecting a whole hell of greatness with this comic book, but I was pleasantly surprised. The only thing that bugs me is the fact that Edgar and Alan don't look brilliantly like Edgar and Alan. However, the comic book does incorporate bits and pieces that I expected Mr Rodinoff to take forgranted - for example, the Frog Brothers speech: "we've been aware of some very strange vampire activity in this town for a long time. Santa Carla's become a haven for the undead. As a matter of fact, we're almost certain that ghouls and werewolves occupy high positions at the city hall". Cleverly, issue number one shows the Frog's battling congressmen and senators. The boardwalk is also included, which gave me a warm tingly feeling.
I really wanted to find a reason to hate on this comic book series, being made by the clever dick that decided a Lost Boys direct to DVD sequel is appropriate. But I liked it. I laughed out loud in a few places. But, couldn't they have just made more comic books and ditched the idea of a sequel?
I just checked out the Lost Boys: The Tribe DVD cover art. Never set eyes on it before now, but here it is. Don't really know what to make of it: I mean, what difference will the cover make to the quality of the film? None whatsoever. Anywhoo, here it is. Larger version this way.
Just today I sat thinking how cool it would be for some fans to scrape together a Lost Boys comic book. And GUESS WHAT. When searching around about 5 minutes ago for pictures and news on the sequel, I came accross;
Moviehole gives us this excerpt from Feldman’s blog:
“…Also as you know Lost Boys 2 is on the way and from what Warner Bros. is saying it looks great, they are already talking about doing a third…..;) we’ll see! They have also commissioned a 4 issue series of comics that DC comics will be releasing with my image as Edgar Frog, telling the story of what happened between the first and second movie.”.
For awhile now, the LostCavers on The Forums have been debating fiercely about the upcoming sequel, and the general vibe is unhappiness. The sequel is going to be a straight-to-DVD release about surfing vampires – this bothers us for a number of reasons, the most painful is that vampires in The Lost Boys world cannot touch running water, and now they’re going to be hanging 10?
Basically, the fandom is enraged that Warner Brothers are making a sequel with little or no regard for the original – and the fans. The sequel will be a straight to DVD release, meaning that they want us to buy this, and we are somewhat annoyed that they expect us to buy a movie that essentially is a mockery of the original that we love so much. I’m probably phrasing this badly, so what you really should do is have a look at our lovely Cat Lady express our views eloquently over at YouTube or at the bottom of this post.
Should this get you suitably riled up – and I hope it does, because, yes, it is nice that they’re finally making a sequel, but no, it’s not nice that they don’t really respect us or the original movie – then I suggest you do as much as you can for the cause.
I thought I'd pimp this here The Lost Cave Forums. We've got a lovely little forum going. There's only a small group of us at the moment, but we're friendly and welcoming to new people, and we're always looking to expand.
We're also thinking of starting an RPG, but we're not sure how to go about it. For that we will need more players, and also some input, so if you're interested, head on over.
