Writer's Block: “We built this city on rock and roll”
What are your favorite song lyrics, and why?

Three songs from Steve Winwood: "While You See A Chance" (my all-time favorite), "Still in the Game" and "Back in the High Life". The first is so inspirational, the last describes my life pretty well. As for "Still in the Game": "here's to never letting go, though sometimes it does get lonely" sums it up pretty well.

Writer's Block: Trip Down Memory Lane
Easter Break, April, 1981. Spokane, Seattle, Vancouver Island. My love for the City of Seattle comes from that badly-needed break from school.

Song for a Winter's . . .
. . . blizzard.

(Note to my LJ friends: this entry is Public.)

All roads in and out of Saskatoon are closed because of this blizzard. This is the first time I can ever remember that happening.

Had a brief chat with Julie (in 'we-can't-have-Winterlude-cuz-the-Canal-ain't-frozen-over' Ottawa) about half an hour ago. She doesn't want to swap. I don't blame her.

Updating at 11:30 AM Saskatoon time, 12:30 PM Eastern . . . Weather Network's road reports and the SK Highways Dept. home page both say that all highways surrounding Saskatoon, North Battleford and Meadow Lake are 'temporarily CLOSED due to zero visibility, blowing and drifting snow'. Highways surrounding P.A. aren't much better . . . Weather Network's road report said all roads surrounding P.A. are 'slippery'.

OTOH, apparently the mail in this town is still being delivered. I just heard the click of the mailbox.

Further update at 1:50 PM Saskatoon time, 2:50 PM Eastern . . . the Manager of Gateway Mall (downtown P.A.) has given store employees the option of going home early.

So let me tell you about my weekend . . .
Got up to Emma Lake Friday afternoon. Turned on my 98SE dial-up machine and downloaded the latest Norton anti-virus stuff, then took a look at e-mail.

Then my machine went south on me.

Got a green screen after clicking on an e-mail. Thought it might have been a virus (but I'd just done the Norton thing two minutes before), but the machine declared a problem with its registry and endeavored to 'fix' it. I was able to go online after that, but the mouse wouldn't move after as little as a minute. Keyboard shortcuts (like ctrl + esc to call up the Start menu) wouldn't work. Likewise, I couldn't get through a full (offline) game of solitaire without the thing locking up. Trying to change BIOS settings didn't help either. So I was sans computer. That's where Friday night's call to Dani and Sunday's birthday call to Kim come in. All is not lost though: we got a machine from Computer Trends a month or so ago, but never took it up to the lake, never installed it (no problems with the machine until now). Will do so when we go up again on Wed.

So, Kim, looks like you got a KSB (Kim Snowless Birthday) after all. :) Enquiring minds want to know how the pub crawl went. ;)

Happy Birthday, Justine!! :) :)

(((Dani))) . . . I'm thinking of you.
