Product name: Barbeque Riblets Company: Veggie Patch Store purchased at: Giant Vegetarian or Vegan: Vegetarian Review: There were two in a package, with a large bag of sauce. Fried it up, ate it.. Delicious! Definantly something to be cooked up as a special meal. Final Grade: A+

Product name: MeatBalls Company: Veggie Patch (I think.. boyfriend tossed out the package) Store purchased at: Giant Vegetarian or Vegan: Vegetarian Review: Ummm.. I've eatten 'hamburger' before, but I have no idea what this stuff is. I threw some in with the pasta sauce for spaghetti, and it just tasted, well, odd. I mixed it with some sauce to make a tasty meatball sub, but it came out.. odd. It's not bad, but it's not good. Weird texture, tasted vaguely like a Gardenburger. Definantly not buying it again. Final Grade: D

Product name: Chik'n Patties Company: Morningstar Store purchased at: Giant Vegetarian or Vegan: Vegetarian Review: Delicious! I cooked them up in a frying pan and served it with a side of rice. Very flavorful. Definantly the best 'chicken' I've had in a while. Final Grade: A (would be a plus if it weren't for the fact the packaging recommends using it within four days of opening.)

Product name: Palak Paneer Company: Ethnic Gourmet Store purchased at: Giant Vegetarian or Vegan: Vegetarian Review: I grabbed a couple of these microwave dinners to munch on while at work. And it is damn tasty! Fluffy rice, little cubes of mild-flavored cheese, thick sauce. Just take one of them out of the freezer, poke some holes in the plastic cover, nuke and eat. Could it be any easier? Final Grade: A+

| Vegan Sloppy Joe and Taco Filling Mixes |
[29 Jun 2005|10:59am] |
Hello, I found this community via bigfatlosers, and kashmirdreamer asked me to review a couple of products, so here goes:
Product name: Soy Sloppy Joe Mix Company: Fantastic Foods Store purchased at: Wild Oats, Whole Foods, Schnucks, Dierbergs Vegetarian or Vegan: Vegan (Caveat: there are "natural flavors" listed on the box, and I've never called to ask what exactly they are). Review: Awesome. All you have to do is add water and tomato paste, and you have delicious, flavorful sloppy joes. The texture is very good, too. The box calls for a tablespoon or two of oil, but I always leave it out, and it's just as tasty, but with less fat and calories. My husband and two-year-old son both love it, too. I serve it on a whole grain bun, but I think it's also good cold the next day on a slice of bread for lunch. Final Grade: A+
Product name: Soy Taco Filling Company: Fantastic Foods Store purchased at: Wild Oats, Whole Foods, Schnucks, Dierbergs Vegetarian or Vegan: Vegan (Caveat: there are "natural flavors" listed on the box, and I've never called to ask what exactly they are). Review: Also awesome. You don't even need tomato paste for this one -- just water! It is also very flavorful and has a good texture. My family also likes this in corn taco shells, with some refried beans and salsa in a whole wheat tortilla as a burrito, or over lettuce and spinach with tomatoes, green onions, salsa and other vegetables as a taco salad. Very versatile and relatively cheap, especially to feed a whole family and have leftovers for lunch the next day! Final Grade: A+
We love these products so much that every week we have a "taco" night or "sloppy joe" night. They are mainstays of our menu rotation!

Hey everyone, I joined pretty recently and thought i'd contribute a few reviews to the community (hope these haven't already been given, but if anything it's a different perspective, yes?). I've been vegetarian for about 5 or so years and am trying to transition to vegan (been trying for almost a year now... did it for a month but crashed). Vegan's proved to be more difficult due to a) being a poor college student and b) an insane-o weakness for all things cheese. Someday I hope to win the battle, though! I'll be posting more soon hopefully. :)
Product name: Chik'n Patties Company: Morningstar Store purchased at: Publix Vegetarian or Vegan: Vegetarian Review: I *swear* by these. It's the only thing i've ever tried that came even remotely close to tasting like "real chicken". Of course, it's been years since i've had such things, but theyre excellent. Breaded and tasty, they can be used in sandwiches or also by themselves (maybe in a pita? that always proves to work). They kind of remind me of those chicken sandwiches from Burger King I had once upon a time, heh. Final Grade: A (would be plus if they were vegan heh)
Product name: Veggie Burgers - Prime Grillers Company: Morningstar Store purchased at: Publix Vegetarian or Vegan: Vegetarian Review: I personally prefer these grilled kinds rather than the regular. I don't know if they taste "meatier", but the grill smoked taste (a la bbq) I think is an improvement from most other veggie burgers. Pretty tasty, but I can't have them too frequently because I get tired I guess. Might just be me, though. :) Final Grade: B+
Product name: Rising Crust Meatless Pizza Supreme Company: Boca Store purchased at: Publix Vegetarian or Vegan: Vegetarian Review: This was alright. I think the best part was the fake pepperoni (the fake sausage was kind of weird tasting, but maybe it's cause i was never big on sausage pizza). The bread seemed to take a while to get toasty (could just be my toaster oven sucking tho), but overall it made for a tasty meal. Final Grade: B
Product name: Gimme Lean Sausage Style Company: Light Life Store purchased at: Publix Vegetarian or Vegan: VEGAN! Review: I think this stuff is amazing, and even more amazing because it's vegan! It tastes so so so good, reminds me a lot of all the tastes I enjoyed from breakfast sausages but guilt free. I can't usually have more than one or two patties at a time, usually with toast or plain crackers and vegan butter. Dee-lish. Final Grade: A+

| Morningstar Farms® America's Original Veggie Dog |
[26 Jun 2005|10:23am] |
Product name: Morningstar Farms® America's Original Veggie Dog Company: Morningstar Farms Store purchased at: Stop&Shop or Shaws Vegetarian or Vegan: Vegetarian, contains egg whites Review: I was never a fan of regular hot dogs, when I wasn't vegetarian but these veggie dogs don't make me want hot dogs any more! They are very true to hot dog texture but I found myself enjoying the ketchup, mustard, and bun way more than the dog! It was also shaped like a hexagonal cynlinder, I don't know, but I found that odd. However, they did taste like a hot dog, so if you liked those, try these! Final Grade: B-

It doesn't have the texture of actual bacon, but it does make a very tasty meat substitute. I recommend frying it up in a frying pan, makes it very crispy. Yum!

| Follow Your Heart: Vegan Gourmet Cheese |
[23 Apr 2005|08:16pm] |
Product name: Vegan Gourmet Cheese - both cheddar and mozzarella flavors Company: Follow Your Heart Store purchased at: Whole Foods - St. Paul Vegetarian or Vegan: VEGAN!!!!
Review: Since I became vegan not too long ago, I still crave after the dairy. Tofutti Better Than Cream Cheese takes care of my cream cheese, Soy Delicious takes care of my ice cream, and I really don't crave cow milk and am super satisfied with all of my favorite soy-almond-rice milks. But then there is cheese.
Oh cursed soy cheese, with the nasty flavor and inability to melt properly. If it has any melting ability, one can almost always chalk it up to casein, a milk protein, which makes it not vegan. I've been happy with my Chreese for nachos, really. But I craved to have shredded cheese on my chips or in a cheesy bean burrito.
Then I discovered this stuff. It melts! It tastes ok! (C'mon, there is not going to be a 100% likeness to the "real thing" but this stuff is as close as we're gonna get.) Did I mention it melts? I have it on chips, on sandwiches, on pizza, on tortillas, on pitas. I've been in not-cheese heaven. I've noticed the mozzarella melts better than the cheddar, but I enjoy both.
Some people may hate it, but that's how it goes for dairy substitutes. All I know is this stuff is making it a little easier to maintain my cravings for cheesy stuff. Now if only there was a vegan M&M cookie....
Warning: Don't be fooled by imitations. I've seen "Gourmet Soy Cheese" all over the place, but this has Vegan in its title. So far I've only found it at the Whole Foods on Fairview and Grand in St. Paul. It's also available online. I just ordered the Nacho and Monterey Jack flavors because Whole Foods only offers the Cheddar and Mozz.

) Food Not Bombs Ventura still needs volunteers to help us with passing out flyers, carpooling, getting donations, picking up donations, cooking food, and serving food to the homeless of Ventura. There we will be promoting human rights, animal rights (the food is always vegetarian and vegan most of the time), and peace. email fnbventura@gmail.com if you're interested. Thanks!
2) As many of you know, Wet Seal uses bunnies for fur instead of faux fur. Although I have sent a letter and many people have as well, I thought it would be more effective to send them a box full of receipts from faux fur bought elsewhere. (I specifically went to Abercrombie & Fitch instead of buying from Wet Seal.) If you want to send yours on your own for whatever reason, here is the address:(Joel N. Waller, CEO Wet Seal, Inc. 26972 Burbank Foothill Ranch, CA 92610) If you'd rather have me send yours together with mine and the others that I collect, email me at fnbventura@gmail.com. Also, if you can't find your receipt, or don't want to bother, you can take a picture of yourself wearing it or a picture of the tag that says where it is from/ that it is fake fur, and I'll send that with the receipts!
3) I had an idea for Easter activism, and thought I would share it with others so that more people could do it. I don't know if it's a completely original idea, but it doesn't matter. Here's what to do: If your city is holding an Easter Egg hunt, plant plastic eggs with cruelty free stickers or other animal-friendly materials that are appealing to children inside. When the children go to find their eggs, they will find yours, and hopefully think about animals in a new way. For example, if someone got something that said simply and nicely where eggs really come from, how many children would want to have REAL eggs for easter ever again? Another helpful thing to do would be to hold a booth outside with information in case children or people are confused or just want to know more. That way you can personally explain the truth about meat, eggs, and dairy. Plastic Easter Eggs are on sale at Michael's (a craft store chain in the US) 52 for 6 dollars, or you might be able to find cheap ones at a 99 cents store or grocery store. Also, PETA.org can provide stickers and coloring books and other information made specifically for children, as well as information for adults. If you don't have enough time to order them, try printing them out at home or at the library. You can buy sticker paper at craft stores, or simply print onto regular paper. Happy hunting! (And sabatoging :) )
4) I love 8th Continent's chocolate soymilk, but apparently none of their soymilks are vegan. Please, please email them and urge them to switch from D3 to D2 in order to stop animal cruelty. Even if you don't like it, or like some other soymilk more, there are a lot of people who aren't vegan but still drink it. By getting this company to remove the ONE non-vegan ingredient, the non-vegans will be supporting anti-cruelty with their money. If the company is going to make and sell its product regardless of whether the vegans buy it or not, why not make it vegan so it doesn't hurt animals? Think of all the animals/animal by products that will be saved in the process! Not only that, but it would help those of us who love it ;) 8thContinent@genmills.com
x-posted a lot, sorry for the inconvience to some of you

| fakin' bacon! |
[14 Mar 2005|10:03am] |
Product name: Fakin' Bacon Company: Light Life Store purchased at: local Co-op or Whole Foods, can't remember Vegetarian or Vegan: Vegan!
Review: I reall like these "smoky tempeh strips" from Light life. I had a bacon cheeseburger for the first time in forever! And it was yummy. I also had a BLT, which was great. Then, I made bacon cheeseburger mac and chreese, which I thought was quite delicious. It's not exactly bacon-tasting at all, which is fine for me. Just fry it in a pan, and you have crispy, smoky flavored tempeh strips.
I've tried "smart bacon" and didn't like those that much at all. I think that these are not a replacement for bacon, but a tasty alternative to put in your next veggie bacon cheeseburger.

Say goodbye to your Vitamin Waters, daily vitamins, herbal tea!!!
The government is passing the law that will no longer allow these to be bought, sold, or anything. The US government is going to ban essential oils ex: lavender oil , daily vitamins ex: echinacea and zinc, herbal tea ex: chamomile, throat coat tea, eucalyptus cough drops! EVERY SINGLE TYPE OF HERB OR NATURAL VITAMIN.
This CAN'T happen!!!!
So this means that every natural store, grocery store, whole foods anything will go out of business! So how will vegans and vegetarians get around and survive? How will anyone who uses any one of these survive?
This is the website that says it all.
http://www.newswithviews.com/Howenstine/james24.htm
It's from http://www.rense.com
Seriously, if enough people get outraged and upset, there is a possibility that this might stop, you never know. If not, then you can say goodbye to all this forever by June 2005.

Food Not Bombs is an all-volunteer collection that strives to end hunger, support the humane treatment of animals and promote peace. The Ventura, California chapter will be serving food to the homeless weekly. The food served will primarily be vegetarian and sometimes vegan, depending on the donated food supplies. To be involved with Food Not Bombs you do not have to be either a vegetarian or vegan, everyone is welcome to help us feed the homeless.
Food Not Bombs has a universal website at www.FoodNotBombs.net; however, each Food Not Bombs chapter is autonomous and is not controlled by any governing body. Because we are independent, all decisions about what to serve, what to promote, and what to do are completely up to us.
We will be scheduling an introductory meeting in which everyone interested is invited to come and see how they can help. At this meeting, you will be able to give any suggestions you have about the organization; what to include, what not to include, etc. We want your suggestions and strongly encourage you to come to this meeting. In order to get this organization off the ground, we need your support.
We will also need volunteers to: 1) Advertise and/or distribute Food Not Bombs flyers to promote public awareness 2) Pick up donated food and supplies from grocery stores, health food stores, farmers markets, and anywhere else that has agreed to donate 3) Use any personal contacts to help us get supplies donated to us, such as utensils, bowls, napkins, as well as food 4) Help cook large quantities of food, probably in stews and soups 5) Help serve the food 6) Find new volunteers
If you are interested in attending the meeting, or know anyone who might be, please contact Courtney at fnbventura@gmail.com with your availability. Also, if you have any questions or want to learn more, feel free to email us or visit www.FoodNotBombs.net.
If you have said you were interested, or are interested please join: http://groups.myspace.com/FoodNotBombsVentura and/or www.livejournal.com/community/FNBventura

| Morningstar Farms Honey Mustard Chik'n Tenders |
[20 Feb 2005|09:32pm] |
Product name: Honey Mustard Chik'n Tenders Company: Morningstar Farms Store purchased at: Kroger in Atlanta, GA, USA Vegetarian or Vegan: vegetarian Review: My parents gave me the rest of their box of these fake chicken tenders... they tried them the other night and said they were horrible! I had two for lunch, and I liked them more than my parents did. The honey mustard taste is baked in. It's very mild, though. Perhaps some honey mustard dipping sauce would have brought it out more. The texture is a lot like Morningstar's Chik Nuggets. These were a little crispier, though. Better to bite right into them than try to cut them with a fork. If there was a bad point to these, it'd definitely be the smell. Something wasn't quite right about it. There was a vague mustardy smell to them, but, hmm, it was more like the smell you'd get if you put cardboard in the microwave.
I might buy these again, if I have a strange craving for chicken tenders. But, then again, I might just have some Chik Nuggets with a side of honey mustard dipping sauce.

| Tender Bits! |
[16 Feb 2005|10:53pm] |
Loma Linda/Morningstar Farms Tender Bits...one of the strangely delicious vegan mock meats that come in cans. We sell these where I work (Sun Harvest aka Wild Oats), and it took me a long time to start sampling their stuff because of an aversion to canned food. Well, Tender Bits kick ass. I guess they are meant to be like chicken medallions. They're sort of shaped like bean bag chairs. Not very tasty just heated up plain, but like tofu, if you toss them in some kind of sauce or saute, they are instantly delicious. I cooked them up tonight in pasta with sauteed asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes, pine nuts and onions.
Great texture, great flavor, high protein and extremely nutritious. A+++
