Oh my god. Oh my GOD. I stood up there through their talks, waiting for my turn, literally longing for death. # Like, "You're our legal stats person! Why are you (slooowly) reading through EVERY BLOCK OF TEXT IN THE BIBLE FEATURING HOMOSEXUALITY???" #ali_wildgoose Let's just say there was too much irrelevant info (see last tweet) and too little/not enough backbone in the relevant stuff. # Not to mention at least one presenter broke out giggling when she had to say "homosexuality" the first several times. Wanted to throttle her # @ deani_bean Oh ho, hadn't the time! After hemming & hawing their way over group time limit (cutting into my/the last presenter's time slots) they didn't even stick around in class to sit respectfully through the last group. Whose presentation time THEY cut short. #Ohh and THEN, stats-girl called the Bible passages "vague" and couldn't even defend that to the [Abrahamic faith following] girl in class who questioned how. # I either had to let stats-girl dig her own grave, OR speak up at risk of making group look uncoordinated. (Ended up choosing the latter; emphasized that US Govt ≠ Theocracy) # |

The Vermont Senate and House voted today to override a veto by Governor Jim Douglas of the state's same-sex marriage bill.
The Senate voted 23-5, overriding the veto by a wide margin, while the House squeaked through with a 2/3 majority with a 100-49 vote. [Sauce]
D.C. Council Votes to Recognize Other States' Gay Marriages
The D.C. Council voted today to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states, on the same day that Vermont became the fourth state to legalize same-sex unions.
Domestic partnerships are already legal in the nation's capital. But today's vote, billed as an important milestone in gay rights, explicitly recognizes relocated gay married couples as married. [Sauce]
