I am looking for a new skill to keep the audience entertained before the show (I am in a sideshow) actually starts and I want to pick up plate spinning and yo-yo stunts. So I need a suggestion for a good starter yo-yo to learn on.

Well, the last update was a whole year ago.. but hey, whatever-let's see what happens, or see if the community pops back to life.

Anyone see World's not too long ago?
I wasn't there, but I was blown away by John Ando's 1A freestyle. It was sheer amazing in terms of its flow, control, stage presence, and all sorts of good fun. Call me crazy, but I liked it a whole lot more than Yuuki Spencer's freestyle from last year. I'll always continue to root for Hiroyuki Suzuki though - I mean, he uses a Speedmaker! Those are pretty much $15 tops. While I'm pretty sure Ando was using the new YYF Superstar (that hasn't quite come out yet).
And Shinji's streak was broken in 2A this year.. well, I would call five world titles already insanely good. He'll be back.. for sure.
Is Takeshi seriously 10 years old? That 5A freestyle of his was amazing!

Well, I'm broke and can't afford much. I REALLY want that new Skyline .. but I can't afford it, nor am I ever willing to ask anyone for money if its something just for myself.
I'm using a Speed Dial with two rubber shuttles (one sanded) and a Konkave bearing instead of the standard stainless steel. Like most other people, I'm using 100% Polyester type 6 string. Just started a little over four and a half months ago.
And I don't understand how to do Whips or Slack tricks.. no matter how many videos I watch. Anyone like to help me?
(I can tackle pretty much everything else though)

Hey all -- new to the community and just introducing myself. I've been mildly decent with a yoyo ever since I was in 2nd grade, which I learned from my dad (though only simple stuff like rock the baby, around the world, etc -- just some stuff that impressed other kids in grade school), and then pretty much forgot about it. About a year ago out of nowhere I've picked up on some more challenging stuff and ended up getting really into most of the newschool techniques. I've had to learn everything by reading and watching vids online since I'm pretty much the only one in my group that can even throw a yoyo, let alone get in and out of a spirit bomb mount. Most of my friends just tell me to bring the yoyo to the bar and see if doing tricks can get me free drinks. And no, I've never done that...yet.

It's both a blessing and a curse -- a blessing in that I'm the only one that throws so it sets me apart from everyone else, a curse in that learning tricks involves searching online and just plain using trial and error. Anyone else have that problem?

Moreover, anyone else from Long Island?

Hey there, im new to the community and i need some help on what to do about my yo yo. I have a Free Hand Zero by Duncan that ive been playing around with for almost a month and for the past 2 weeks its been acting strange. Every time i throwdown it will either sleep too long and not come back or not sleep at all and when i go to do string tricks it will either wrap up too fast or not come to me at all after doing a trick, there really isnt a balance. This seemed to start happening right after i changed the string and friction biscuits because the ones that were on there were wearing away. I have a friend who yo yos who played around with it and he told me to try taking one friction biscuit off and keep the other and to try using a silver spacer on one side and a gold one on the other to help it. It doesnt seem to be helping much.

well i have just found out that Harry Houdini took his own life on tuesday(the 4th). i never actually met him but i heard he was a good guy and I learned alot from his videos.

Its a sad day in the yoyoing community. =(

And any tips on creating new tricks? cause i just cant, no matter how hard i try. =(

I'm new to the yo-yo thing. I started out with an old wooden yo-yo my g/f gave me (It's a fli-back yoyo, red and blue). Next, I tried out a few of the cheap ones you find at the stores (duncan neo, duncan imperial). However, none of them have been better than the old wooden one (The only reason I don't use it is it has the unfortunate tendency to fly apart when it's looped). I'm in the market for a good looping yo-yo, and a butterfly. I've been thinking of getting a Duncan Speed beetle, and a yomega fireball. These seem cheap enough for my beggining needs, but I'd like to know everyone else' opinion.

anybody here got any idea how i would get a custom yoyo made? i have the designs, but i dont know how to get it from paper to the actual thing.
