You may find this review a bit long, but we thought it will be useful. Edit Nov2020: Some background. We live in Bengaluru in an apartment, exclusively served with ground water through the borewell in the complex. The ground water is significantly hard with the TDS reading @585. We got this dishwasher a month back & this review is after using it for a month. To put it simply - its very good & has made a significant impact on our lives. Before we get into the details - this was bought by us after a lot of research. More so, on its dimensions & performance. We acknowledge the efforts of so many people for their various reviews. The research was important as it was a table top dishwasher & we needed to be very clear whether it fits in our kitchen. As you can see from the photo above, it was a perfect match. Since there are so many small things to be kept in mind while buying, we thought to put as many photos as possible in this review so that you may find it helpful. Of importance is the power outlet. In many households, the power socket is generally a 5A-6A one, but the unit comes with a big 15A plug. Therefore a reducer plug socket is required as shown. The second thing of paramount importance is the inlet water connection. We took some time to figure this out. You will need a water cock as shown and a adapter that connects the water cock to the plastic socket on the inlet pipe. This is most important and we searched & couldn't find it online. Its should be available in a decent hardware shop. We paid Rs.60 for this. As explained, as the water is hard, we have installed Eco Crystal water treatment unit which works on magnetic principle. It is not a water softener but separates the salt so that it doesn't stick on the surface & insides of the dishwasher. Its performance is too early to quote (Edit Sep2022: Frankly not sure about its impact) Now coming to the dishwasher itself, we found it having a good amount of space for our articles including milk cookers, pans, kadai. etc. The photo above is an understatement of what this unit can accommodate. We will update with more photos later. We have also put in a vessel used for making ghee from milk cream - It came out cleaner then we expected - nearly fully clean, requiring only a hand rinsing. As many have explained, it takes some learning to use the unit optimally, but we had no issue even in the first load. The articles came out cleaner than our expectations. Photos as above. Although you can use a detergent tablet, we have used salt, detergent & clean & shine individually to have better control. All are of Fortune make & we are quite happy with its performance. As stated by others it makes good sense to read the manual start to end before the first wash & we found it very helpful. We also acknowledge the service technician who came to install the unit, who explained & demonstrated the use thoroughly & correctly - explaining some of the common mistakes people commit while using - even though the machine could not be installed in the place, as we were not ready with the inlet connections. we will update more later Edit1: 2021: The motor failed. It was replaced under warranty. I suggest that it is very important to plug into a 15A socket & not use the adapter to fit a 6A socket. Edit2: Sep2022: Its nearly 2 years of usage. Here's the feedback: As a product & its efficiency - its fabulous. Does more than it is designed to do. Been consistently delivering clean & dry utensils & plates. We have been loading to the fullest extent always & cleaning is the same. Easily works for a family of 4. For 5 people you may have to load nearly twice a day.

A very nice thing to have

This is a very nice and helpful machine to have in a modern kitchen. Though a bit smaller than what you really need in an average size kitchen, it seems to serve its purpose for me. I bought the smaller variant primarily because of its manageable size in comparison to the full size ones. For not having any experience with a dishwasher I did some research to get a feel for what to expect out of a dishwasher in general and specifically this model, in terms of effectiveness in cleaning, running costs etc. What i learned from all the research that i did and the limited usage experience on my Beko 8 place machine is given below,

      1. Dishwashers are damn effective, even for our way and style of cooking and type of utensils. You also need not pre-clean your dishes before loading them into the machine. However, you need to know how to load the dishes properly in the machine, know how much detergent one needs to use and use appropriate wash cycle settings. For this there is a plethora of information out there over the web which you can put to good use. You might also want to consider learning how a dishwasher does what it does (working principle) which would help in getting your utensils cleaned properly and not unnecessarily complain when dishes come out soiled. As an example, you shall avoid putting large utensils that block the sprayer jet from hitting the detergent tray or block detergent tray door from opening properly. This seems to be a common yet overlooked mistake. Blocking the detergent tray would obviously lead to unclean utensils which people wrongly attribute to the design of the machine or the quality of the detergent itself.

      2. Dishwashers don't use a lot of water or at least not as much as when hand washing. Dish washers are designed to use the same water again and again in a given cycle at the end of which, a rinse cycle cleans everything. As per the manual, in Normal mode, my Beko uses 12.5 litres of water. All these cleaning cycles are carried out using hot water. Of course, the temperatures, the number of cleaning and rinsing cycles depend on the wash settings chosen on the machine.

      3. Electricity consumption is a factor that one might want look into. Voltas Beko 8 place device uses 0.72kWh or about 0.72 units of electricity per wash when in its default (Eco) wash cycle. I’m yet to try this mode and have been using Normal mode (which as per the manual uses 1.05kWh) until now. But to my surprise, the Normal mode is only pulling about 0.7kWh! Probably this has to do with the higher inlet water temperature here or the inlet supply water hardness settings that I have chosen (or probably my energy meter is wrong! i will have to confirm this). About 90% of the energy goes to heating water. In my model 1400W of the max 1620W goes to heating!

      4. Dishwasher detergents are in many ways different in its constituents in comparison to hand wash liquids and soaps. The dishwasher detergents are much more aggressive and form less soapy suds; attributes that a dish washer detergent shall have in comparison to the familiar hand wash liquids. So, you might want to refrain yourselves from the urge to use your Vim hand dish wash liquid in the machine. I’m using IFB Autodish detergent powder. Dishwashers, in addition to the detergent, also need dishwasher salt for water softening as well as another liquid called ‘rinse aid’. In Mumbai where I live the water hardness is very low (TDS of around 50ppm! I know this because I have a TDS meter lying around). You can check this yourselves using a TDS meter (about 200 rupee device on Amazon) and a unit conversion chart for TDS to hardness conversion. My machine did not come with (at least I did not find one inside the box) a hardness test strip that would help me know the water hardness though (I think some manufacturers do send it bundled). I have kept the salt usage and rinse aid consumptions to the minimum settings because of low hardness water that I get at my place. My dishes and utensils come out clean and dry every time and with these settings (I use about 20-25gms of detergent also) I expect salt and rinse aids to last at least a month or two. I wouldn’t mind using an all in one dishwasher tablet that contains all the three ingredients (detergent + rinse agent+ salt) in a single tablet as these tablets are expensive for one, but more importantly give little control over detergent consumption. No matter how soiled your utensils are, lightly or badly messed up and charred, you only have one detergent dosage option and that doesn’t sit very well with my requirements.

One thing that I dislike about my Beko 8 place machine is the way the dish support pins on the trays are arranged. These are particularly not suitable for Indian thali type dishes with tall side walls. They just won’t fit. Moreover, because of the machine’s shorter stance (in comparison to the 12 place machines), the upper tray can only accommodate smaller utensils or dishes which can be a little bit of an issue. One word of advice though, these machines are designed to work best when sufficient time is given for the washing process. So, in me Beko, Normal wash setting takes a cool and lethargic 2 hours and 35 to complete and the Eco mode takes about 3 hours!

All said and done, if not for its slightly smaller size and the tray dish-support-pins, the machine is wonderful and works like a charm (at least for the time being).

      A great little dishwasher!

So, is this dishwasher any good? Simply put, yes.

I see a number of negative reviews of this machine but in my opinion and 2½ months of experience, I can say this machine is almost as good as a full size machine.

So what's the biggest problem with this dishwasher? The awkward design of the baskets. The baskets are designed for Western dishes and cookware and some Indian dishes, such as stainless steel plates with high sides don't fit easily in the baskets. Also difficult to load: pressure cookers.

But why is that important? Because of the way the hot water hits the dishes from the bottom. If the dish isn't sufficiently exposed from the bottom, then it won't get clean. So it's very important to learn how to load the dishes correctly. It took me about 10 days before I learnt how to do that properly. This, importantly, is the same for all dishwashers.

Once the loading has been figured out, it's important to learn the limitations of any dishwasher, big or small, high tech or low tech. They can't fully clean dishes that have dried and stuck food (milk, curds, dal, rice, etc). Those can be difficult to clean even by hand. So help the machine by using a brush or a scrubbing pad.

Once the loading and preparation are done correctly, I have found that the dishes come out just as clean as from bigger machines such as Bosch that people in my extended family have. That too on the eco mode that requires less water and energy.

As for the long cycle times, I get around it by planning - I load the dishwasher and use the delay function so that the cycle starts late and ends at a convenient time.

On the whole, I find that this little dishwasher perfectly suits small families of 2 or 3 people. At the price that's about half of a full size machine, is actually very good value for money.

      Edit - July 2020

The machine is working very well and I'm very happy to have bought it. It was a real boon during the lockdown. We faced difficulty in finding good dishwasher detergent or tablets during the lockdown so now we have stocked up.

Tip for good dishwasher performance: Avoid using old detergent or tablets. The expiry date is usually about 2 years after manufacture. Expired or badly stored detergent/tablets don't wash the vessels very well and you might end up having to rewash some vessels.

Although you can use a detergent tablet, we have used salt, detergent & clean & shine individually to have better control. All are of Fortune make & we are quite happy with its performance.

As stated by others it makes good sense to read the manual start to end before the first wash & we found it very helpful.

We also acknowledge the service technician who came to install the unit, who explained & demonstrated the use thoroughly & correctly - explaining some of the common mistakes people commit while using - even though the machine could not be installed in the place, as we were not ready with the inlet connections. we will update more later

Edit1: 2021: The motor failed. It was replaced under warranty. I suggest that it is very important to plug into a 15A socket & not use the adapter to fit a 6A socket.

Edit2: Sep2022: Its nearly 2 years of usage. Here's the feedback:

As a product & its efficiency - its fabulous. Does more than it is designed to do. Been consistently delivering clean & dry utensils & plates. We have been loading to the fullest extent always & cleaning is the same.

Easily works for a family of 4. For 5 people you may have to load nearly twice a day.

Brought this in October 2019 and have started facing a problem (error Code E4 & E1) with the machine in last 10 days and a few observations.

Voltas outsources its services to third party agencies who dont know in an out of the machine. they visited first time & drained the water manually from the machine by tilting at 45 degrees. opened hte bottom cover and it had water in it. since then we havent seen this go away. various reasons were cited, including a trainer who visited our home to resolve the issues and was more interested in pointing out "surrounding issues" like water pressure can get low if you run Dishwasher and Washing machine for example. the drainage pipe being terminated into a drain system incorrectly causing a backflow of water and so on.

they then recommended we disconnect the permanenet drainage we made (in consultation with their installation engineer and a plumber to do the work basis his advice) and directly terminated the machines drainage into the sink. (please see the photos for current setup) and we get this E4. the video is when water leaks into the machine's electronic compartment (at its base) so initially over phone we were told that water is collecting between the machine and platform or a wooden plank (which is not the case if you see the photograph).

the email have written to Area Service Manager is as below detailing step.s

We have the issue resurface again today (error E4).

The activity that was done by Kiran and two engineers was:1. tilted the machine to drain out the water.2. opened the bottom cover and found it to have some water.

      3. Applied silicone to seal a possible leakage point.

      4. and tried running a short cycle which worked. and the team left.5. as soon as they left the machine again gave E4 as a message and Kiran returned.

      6. after draining the machine again and opening the bottom cover which had water in there. He wiped it off and checked the extended drain created for the dishwasher and suggested as it was clogged we should directly terminate the dishwasher exit into the sink. which we did. Since then we have run two cycles and got some E1s at times which was attributed to water pressure (which was fine when the technicians checked) and similarly in the first service the inlet was clean and unclogged, which was hypothesis was given is sending the water back into the machine and causing an overflow. or even wind sometimes causes the overflow trigger to get activated, which i find hard to believe unless the machine is that delicate.

      7. Now the machine is in the setup recommended and have kept it the same way but we got E4 tonight when we started the cycle, the water filled up and immediately gave an E4 (please see pictures, these show the setup and the base where we can see the machine base directly.), in this setup there is no chance of a water backflow going into the machine

overall my take is a poorly designed machine and a poor service network where technicians arent trained and the trainer walks in to give "gyaan" on how the overall setup is back.

      22.10.2020

Finally received the replacement today after 3 months since issue started, after multiple experts as described in the earlier update came and tried fixing it including the factory recommended fix which ended up causing the machine to leak profusely from the front. Multiple follow ups and half hearted approach to solve problem got the delivery today which was promised on 26.09.2020. And approvals exchanged internally but no action till we threatened a case in consumer forum. Machine nice support is from hell.

***Review on 12th day after Delivery***

When the dish washer was delivered, I took my time to explore what is in dish washer. Based on reviews posted here as well as reviews available on Youtube, I knew that this dish washer was apt for my small family of 3 members including a toddler.

      Installation:

      * We need to get the plumbing done and get a tap fitted that is compatible with washing machines or dish washers.

      * The inlet pipe provided out of the box is not the one I used. I went for another pipe purchased from market. Here is why:

      1. The end that attaches to tap has only threaded fitting.

      2. This means that the tap can only be used for dish washer alone. Because to use the same tap for other purposes, would imply undoing the threading of inlet pipe attached to tap.

      3. This threading of pipe is plastic. More you play with it, more are the chances of you having some leakage issues. This insight was provided to me by the installation guy.

      * The pipe I used had a better attachment on the tap side:

      1. It had that metal attachment which has the threading to which inlet pipe out of the box or any other washing machine or dish washer inlet pipes can be attached.

      2. Then it has its own plastic threaded attachment that can be easily detached from inlet pipe.

      3. Inlet pipe that I bought has its own spring based locking and unlocking mechanism to attach itself to this intermediate threaded plastic attachment which connects to the metal threaded spout of the tap.

      * Ensure that when you order this dish washer, you have it delivered after you have the delivery of dish washer detergent, rins aid and dish washer salt. Please order those items such that they are delivered to you before the dish washer.

      * Electricity input that the dish washer needs must be 15 amp. Please do not change the pin to match 5 amp input.

      * The dish washer comes with a funnel which can be used to fill salt and may be rins aid. I haven't really bought rins aid as I went for Finish powerball tablets. These tablets and alike varieties have salt, rins aid and detergent all packed in one tablet.

      * I still went in for dish washer salt just to be on safe side. In next couple of monthes we will be having summer season. My society at times faces water shortage in summer and that time water is bought out from tanker suppliers. This water source which is not corporation water source is most likely ground water which is far harder than corporation water.

      * On this page, you will get manual pdf to download. I strongly recommend to download it and read it. Gives you a lot of clarity on what needs to be ensured for the dish washer to be installed, used and maintained.

      * You will need to buy stand for dish washer separately. Ensure that is ordered before dish washer reaches you.

      Usage:

      * Initially, I struggled with arranging my utencils but as other reviews suggest, that can be perfected with practice.

      * Ensure that utencils are spaced out and are not overlapping entirely. Overlapping utencils will not let water jets wash the utencil covered up.

      * Ensure all the time that all food particles go to your dust bin and do not accompany your utencils into the dish washer. I've read that these food particles will block your outlet over the period of time giving you some error.

      * after arranging utencils in dish washer, always rotate both the water jet fans to ensure no utencil is blocking their path.

      * In case of large plates, you can arrange them at the back of lower basket facing to the front of dish washer. this way large plates stay out of the way of these fans.

      * You can also arrange them in front or side of basket. But be careful of 2 scenarios:

Scenario 1. Obstruction to detergent compartment lead

      1. The large plate placed in front of basket can stay out of the way of the fan but can obstruct the detergent compartment to open fully. Yes - detergent compartment opens automatically by water pressure may be to let detergent get mixed with water during a wash cycle.

      2. As I am using tablet and not detergent powder, in such scenario, I have placed tablet in compartment but kept the lead of detergent compartment open taking care that I close the dish washer slowly preventing the tablet from falling.

      3. Now there is no question of the large plate in front side of basket preventing from detergent compartment lead from opening.

Scenario 2. Obstruction to steam inlet.

      1. In case you keep the large plate on your left hand side of basket, it may come in way of the steam inlet.

      2. I haven't had my plates completely obstructing the steam inlet. I have neither had any impact on the heating process.

      3. But in rare cases may be this steam inlet on left hand dish washer wall may get obstructed.

      * Plastic not compatible with dish washer can change its shape as all utencils are washed in very hot water (70 digree centigrade). Go for steel utencils or glass utencils.

      * Do not go for glass objects like wine glass which have narrow and weak stem. This weak stem might break inside in case the wine glass were to topple over with water pressure. Cleaning that mess will be certainly challenging. I saw this in a youtube video.

      * The dish washer does not dry up the utencils entirely like other larger models would. I guess for a table top model it is kind of ok in this drying aspect. Do not expect perfection here.

      * But your steel cups which at times have water trapped between those 2 layers will be benefited for sure. all that trapped water evapourates away.

      * things like cutting pad, tea strainer get cleaned far better than any human would clean them up. Water reaches all corners and crevices.

      * Intensive, normal and eco modes are good at washing milk vessels and kadhais. After wash, in case stains were to nasty, a very light hand scrubbing may be needed.

      * As the size of dish washer is small, I have almost always needed 2 wash cycles per day to have all my daily utencils washed.

      Running costs:

      * In Pune in my locality, as on date I'm writing this review, expence for domestic made to wash utencils is 25 rupees per day. Which is kind of 800 rupees per month.

      * Finish Powerball Classic tablets which seem to be the reasonable of all other Finish tablets, especially when baught in large quantities, cost you 12.8 rupees per tablet. Buy packet of 110 tablets which would cost around 1400 rupees. One wash can easily be done using only half of this tablet. With 2 washes per day, you will have cost of 12.8 rupees per day.

      * With dish washer, expect your monthly electricity bill to jump up by 300 to 500 rupees per month. This means per day cost could be between 10 to 15 rupees.

      * On-going costs overall could be 27-28 rupees per day which is 840 rupees per month.

      * I expect this 20k dish washer to be with me for next 10 years. I know I'm optimistic here. But my cost is then 2k per year which is around 165 rupees per month.

      * Add this cost to 840 rupees and we are getting to around 1k per month running expense.

      * I consider this higher price to be the price I pay for consistancy in wash quality. This is far better than domestic help who has fluctuating quality performance. All this is also less stressful because you don't have to put your head at monitoring domestic help's performance and continuously instructing her time and again.

      Error Codes:

      * I have not encountered any error so far. But these are early days. I'll get back with details when I get those errors.

      * But I did observe some of the question and answers and reviews making mention of e3, e4 and e1 errors.

      * First of all, I got the installation done of dish washer on my own by arranging for plumber and electrician. The installation guy turned up on 5th day. He did not do the installation as it was already done. I still called him over to get few queries answered. But this guy helped me in understanding what those error codes are. Luckily, this installation guy was having experience of installing 60-70 units of the same dish washer.

      * E3 error occurs when heater faces issues. At installation time, check whether your earthing is working right. Any electrical fault would affect electrical components within dish washer. This is true for any dish washer.

      * Clean your dish washer once in month. This prevents salts from gathering around metal surface inside the dish washer including the door frame. When door frame will have salt deposites, there could be possible leakages of water. Using vinegar in one empty washing cycle immediately followed by use of baking soda in another empty washing cycle will help keep the dish washer clean from inside. Cleaning dish washer will prevent errors like e4 or e1 which indicate blockage in outlet.

      * please keep the filter at bottom of dish washer also clean to avoid above errors.

I've been looking for dishwashers for long time but seeing the price for other brands I use to give up on the thought of buying until I stumbled upon Voltas beko 8place model.

8place means it's sufficient for the utensils used by 8 persons in one meal.

We being a family of 2, the size of this model perfectly fits our need.

      Prerequisites.

      1. Needs a 15ampere socket, don't risk it by using a 5ampere one.

      2. A 3/4inch angle cock to fit the water inlet pipe. Easily available in market

      3. Make sure the place you will drain the water is not far from dishwasher. Since it's a table top model ideal to keep it near the kitchen sink.

      Usage

      1. You need not rinse utensils before putting in machine

      2. Take out all food leftovers before putting in

      3. Can use a all in one tablet or a combination of dishwasher salt + rinse aid + detergent. Some good brands are finish, fortune, ifb, crystale which can be bought from Amazon or any other site.

      Pros

      1. Results are really good. If the dishes are placed correctly it gets 99%cleaned. Used finish tablets and clean and shine mode on dishwasher.

      2. Easy to accommodate utensils for family 3

      3. Easy to operate.

      4. Doesn't make lot of noise

      5. Fits in most of indian kitchens, do check the dimensions before buying and the prerequisites above

      Cons

      1. Can't place big plates that have elevated circumference. It. Blocks the spray arm

      2. Tall cups are also a no.

      3. Being a 8place it still uses same amount of water as for a 14place

      4. Dishwashing all in one tablets are expensive where avg cost of 1 tablet is rs18. Do the maths before buying. You can go with a salt detergent and rinse aid combo which is slightly cheaper than tablets but don't expect that it would cost the same like using vim.

      5. When you buy dishwasher also buy the tablets or detergent combo. The demo guy won't demo without it.

      6. Installation can be hassle if it doesn't meet the prerequisites mentioned above. Voltas technicians will only plug it in and fit the inlet pipe. Don expect they will do the electrician and plumbing work. So make sure you have all things in place before buying
