SONG OF THE WEEK New York State of Mind by Billy Joel is featured in The New Rachel, the first episode of Season Four. It is sung in two different locations: by Rachel Berry in NYADA's Round Room in New York City, and by Marley Rose in Lima, Ohio in The April Rhodes Civic Pavilion. At NYADA, in the "Round Room," Rachel is asked to perform in front of the class by Carmen Tibideaux. Rachel begins the song, and then it cuts to Marley back in Lima, singing it as her audition song for the New Directions in the McKinley auditorium. The scenes switch back and forth as the song continues. Rachel gets a round of applause after she finishes and New Directions clap for Marley as well. FEATURED CHARACTER Marley Rose is a major character on Glee during the fourth and fifth seasons. She and her mother, Millie Rose, who works as a lunch lady at Marley's school, are poverty stricken. This, her mother's weight, and her low self-esteem has led to Marley being separated, as she was never accepted in any of her other schools. Marley aspires to one day be a singer on the radio, and is currently recovering from bulimia nervosa, which Kitty Wilde lured her into. Her best friend is Unique Adams. It is revealed briefly in the episode Shooting Star that she writes original songs and in the episodes Sweet Dreams and All or Nothing, her songs are performed. Some songs are Outcast and All or Nothing. She was in a relationship with Jake Puckerman up until The End of Twerk, where she broke up with him after finding out about his affair with Bree. EPISODE OF THE WEEK The End of Twerk is the fifth episode of Glee's fifth season and the ninety-third episode overall. It premiered on November 14, 2013. After the New Directions watch Blaine's scandalous twerking video, Will is inspired by it and introduces a new assignment: Twerk. Just as the Glee Club gets into it, Sue is already on her way to ending twerk at McKinley, igniting the war between her and Will one step further. Furthermore, at McKinley, tension and drama arises as Unique continues to be harassed and bullied as she enters the boy's bathroom and Jake and Bree's affair is finally revealed to Marley. In New York, rebellion is in the air after Rachel takes a risk with Funny Girl and convinces Kurt to get tattoos, however, for both Kurt and Rachel, rebellion often comes with a risk. Read more...
