David Mather
I am a fully qualified Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and I work with CHILDREN, YOUNG PEOPLE and ADULTS.
I qualified from the Northern Guild, heralded as one of the best training institutes in the UK and I’m a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). As a member of BACP, I adhere to strict ethical codes which act to serve and protect each and every one of my clients. I also hold an enhanced certificate with the UK Government’s Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and a date controller certificate with International Commisionser’s Office (ICO).
WHY CHOOSE ME FOR THERAPY?
People who know me describe me as a strong and gentle man, and I bring that strength and gentleness into therapy sessions. I’m able to make clients of all ages feel quickly at ease and regulated so that they feel safe and supported to engage in the therapeutic process so that they can reach their goals.
I’m experienced to hold whatever you or a loved one brings with them into the therapy room. Nothing is too much.
We can work in a way that suits a person best. I’m able to draw from many different therapeutic models in order to do this. My main modality draws from a Psychodynamic approach and uses Transactional Analysis which focuses on how people choose to communicate.
Finding a therapist who is the right fit is really important. An initial phone call is a great way to hear from me and to ask any questions that you might have. I find that this can contribute to informing your decision on if I might be a good fit to work alongside you or a loved one.
THERAPY THAT MEETS YOU WHERE YOU ARE
I offer therapy that meets people where they are. There’s no one-size-fits-all way to help people achieve their therapeutic goals. Sometimes, a creative approach may be needed, like when I work with children and use puppets, sand trays, miniatures, clay, and paints to help them tell their stories.
I’m hugely passionate about supporting children and young people’s mental health.
My vast experience in this area includes:
- Providing counselling to children and young people in many schools across North Tyneside and Newcastle.
- Working closely with Barnardo’s at the Orchard Mosaic Service, providing counselling to children and young people who have suffered bereavement and/or sexual abuse.
- I’m an approved supplier to Adopt North East where I work therapeutically with adopted children and young people who have suffered the impact of early life trauma.
- Working with the families of children and young people so that they can understand how to facilitate work continuing outside of the therapy room for longer term benefits.
- Working with Barnardo’s for a number of years, supporting and advocating for the needs of LGBTQI+ children, young people, and adults.
