Gemini (also known as Google Gemini and formerly known as Bard) is a Generative artificial intelligence made by Google that was first made in March of 2023 as Bard. In December 2023, it was rebranded to Gemini to compete with other artificial intelligence like ChatGPT.

Gemini was also released in beta on Google's Home Pods in early access on October 28, 2025, and had a wider beta roll out in December 2025.

Criticism

[change | change source]

Gemini has faced big criticism like other AIs throughout its existence and has had many controversies.

In images

[change | change source]

Like other AI models that can create images, Gemini has been accused of stealing other people's art off the internet and plagiarizing it to make images.

In February 2024, Google had to temporarily disable image generation after Gemini started making inaccurate images of historical figures like making George Washington black.

On Google Home pods

After Gemini's early access and beta launch, many users complained that it can no longer do simple actions like "broadcasting" or "turning off or on the lights". They also said that they can't switch Gemini off and return to the old assistant.[3]
