Welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me! This is a whatever music moves you week. I’ve been doing double time fixing blog posts and organizing YT playlists when I came across a private collection of songs. Tom from SPMM introduced me to the MonaLisa Twins covering another artist’s song and it was then I discovered they also their own originals. I saved my favorites in this 10 song playlist.

Who’s MonaLisa Twins? They are actually twin sisters from Liverpool, Mona and Lisa Wagner. They are known on YouTube for their Beatles’ cover songs and you probably picked up on that influence in their style. They are talented young ladies with beautiful harmonizing voices.

What’s Up Wednesday 7.8.26

I hope all of my American friends had a safe and blessed Independence Day celebrating our nation’s 250th birthday. We loved watching the big show aired on FoxNation from the Capitol. Despite the rain delay, Sean Hannity and friends did a wonderful job interviewing veterans and celebrities while waiting for the show to get back on track. After President Trump’s fabulous inspiring, patriotic speech, they put on big, beautiful fireworks show!

Anyway, here it is July. I’m quite busy and yet it seems I have little to show for it. I suppose that’s because a lot of my time is spent repairing my blog and working backwards makes the changes visible mostly to me. The good news is I’m in the home stretch. My goal was to aggressively get every post fixed to January 1, 2017 and I’ll start working on 2017 this week.

For our anniversary last month, I made a lemon blueberry cake for dessert using a previously tested recipe and it was delicious! I made slight modifications to it, which I think makes it even better. I try my best to share it with you soon. Meanwhile, here’s a couple of pictures.

I created two feminine watercolor cards last month that are very similar using the learn as you practice method.

I did a birthday greeting something like this for my sister’s card, except the the butterfly didn’t create a heart pattern around the message.

My watercolors are limited, so I really want to get a larger set. Had I paid closer attention to when I bought this set, then perhaps I would’ve noticed some important shades I needed.

I wanted to use my paints on a card I made for a new mother, but since I didn’t have the colors I wanted I used my Prismacolor pencils. About a year ago, I used my iPad to sketch almost identical versions for my great-nephew and second grandson’s arrival. Here is the one I did in June for our dental assistant’s little boy.

I had trouble blending my colors to be smoother, more natural looking. I think it’s my paper. I used cardstock for this image. If you have experience with using color pencils and blending, please share your secrets! Every art piece I create or recreate builds my confidence a little more and the desire to keep pursuing my passion.

I love to sit on the sofa on Sunday afternoons doodling using my iPad while DH watches sports! I have some new digital drawings to share, but I will share those another time.

It’s been quite awhile for me to do so, but this week I borrowed Joyce’s hodgepodge questions. Here’s how I answered them.

1. What’s something you enjoy now that your younger self would never have appreciated? Going to bed on time. I need between 6-8 hours to feel well rested. Isn’t it funny how I was able to survive on fewer hours of sleep, especially when I was a young mother. Which makes me question, how did I do it? All I can say is it’s a God thing. He designed us to do amazing things.

2. What was peaceful about today? Today is yesterday and it’s still kind of early in the morning, but generally I find the first part of the day peaceful. I’m not too busy and am able to make plans on what gets my attention.

3. It’s National Blueberry Day (July 8). Will you celebrate?  You can have one of the following right now-a slice of blueberry pie, a warm blueberry muffin, or a stack of blueberry pancakes…which do you choose? I really would love to celebrate National Blueberry Day, but I don’t have anything made already for the occasion. I guess my recipe for Blueberry Lemon cake I made last month will have to do. Of your menu items, I think I would go with a stack of blueberry pancakes for Jordan’s Restaurant in Bar Harbor, ME or Polly’s Pancake House in New Hampshire. I found Polly’s recipe (my version) online. I made a few changes.

This or that-blueberries or raspberries? blueberries or strawberries? If eaten out of hand, I’d pick wild raspberries and strawberries. These tend to be sweeter to the taste. But, I’d take blueberries in pastries or baked items over either.

4. Do you need a break? From what? Oh yeah, I need a break from the everyday grind. It’s nice to get away to refresh the mind, even if it’s just a drive. Hopefully this fall, we’ll take a vacation and honestly, it doesn’t matter what we do or where we go. The change in routine will energize us both.

5. What has surprised you most about getting older? After the denial stage passed, that aging isn’t a bad thing and count myself blessed for my good health.

World UFO Day

This week’s is in observation of World UFO Day. You may want to consider anything space related – stars, aliens, spaceships, the galaxy. The possibilities are to infinity and beyond!

Welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me!

Extraterrestrial life and UFOs are interesting, but I don’t believe in these things or at least not the same way. I acknowledge fully there are spirits and principalities, but not everything you see or hear is from God.

Living in the city hides the night sky, but if we’re outdoors in the late hours and if it’s clear it quite pretty. I remember as a kid laying in the yard to look for the Big and Small Dipper amongst the vast number of stars. God’s artistry is awesome. God’s beautiful handiwork fills me with warmth and wonder.

Thanks to technology, Hubble captures cool images of our universe of God’s masterpieces for us to enjoy up close. I do enjoy seeing places beyond my eye, but photographs of the night sky might hold my fancy even more of God’s work. I stumbled on Stephen Bay Photography. He had two photos that caught my eye, Midnight Reflections and Starbow that are gorgeous!

Anyway, while going down a few rabbit holes to find music, I read an article on band names relating to our theme and I thought it’d be fun to share some interesting tidbits.

Foo Fighters came up with their name after the experimental UFO-like aircraft the Nazi’s were developing near the end of WWII called “foo fighters”.

The English Irish band U2 took its name from the high altitude spy plane shot down by Russians during the cold war called the U-2. In the 50s this plane was developed secretly in Roswell, New Mexico and tested there, which may account for some of the UFO sightings.

What actually surprised me is there was a band called UFO that started in the late 60s. I don’t remember the English heavy metal rock band. However, they had a long run, at least off and on anyhow for five decades. Time being what it is, I picked the first song title that grabbed my attention, Boogie by UFO!

250 years young

I’m grateful to live in America. Is she perfect? No. There is no such place and never will there be until Christ returns, but she offers hope, as stated in The Declaration of Independence.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

I reinvented this drawing again as you might have guessed since its debut in 2020. I’m happy with the image at the top and this one. Here, I applied a photographic filter in Pixelmator Pro to my Procreate sketch. I like how it gives my design a vintage effect.

Today is my 50th rebirth. This song fits my faith, as well works beautifully for our freedom we cherish in this great land.

Thunder & Lightning or Thunder and Lightning BOTB Showdown

The weather proverb starting with April showers does not include July, but one source indicated that some adaptions might include the line “July heat brings harvest treats”.

Doing a little digging, I found a piece of weather lore that goes like this…

“Ne’er trust a July sky” and “If the 1st of July be rainy weather, it will rain more or less for three weeks together.” 

Ideally, I wanted to find two covers of the same songs. I came up empty handed and so I’m running with two different songs with similar titles for this battle. Will it be Thunder & Lightning or Thunder and Lightning?

Thunder & Lightning is off Gotthard’s March 2025 Stereo Crush (14th studio album). Unknown to me, they are a successful hard rock Swiss band who’s been around for more than 3 decades. According to Wiki the bands’ last sixteen albums reached #1 in the Swiss charts. As well, the group has sold 3 million+ albums and have received multi-platinum awards around the globe.

Until now, I don’t believe I’d heard of the blue-eyed soul American singer, Chi Coltrane. I learned her song, Thunder and Lightning released in 1972 from her self-titled debut album. It did well, hitting the US Billboard Hot 100 at #17, Cash Box at #15, and Record World at #14. Also, it made it’s way on to the Canadian RPM Magazine singles chart at #18.

There you have two different bands, songs, and genres in this showdown. The question now is who gets your vote? Will it be Gottard or Chi Coltrane?

Belle & Sebastian Write About Love Playlist

This week’s theme is whatever music moves you!

I was sorting through my music archives when I found a link for today’s artists, Write About Love (#7 on playlist), that I saved last year. Listening to that track again, I thought their voices sounded a little familiar, but I thought the discovery last year was my first time to hear them until now. I did a quick search of my blog and found that I was initially introduced to Belle & Sebastian in 2018. I used a different song in my B post for the A2Z Challenge. This week, I’m bringing to you their Write About Love playlist!

Belle & Sebastian is a Scottish Indie pop band that formed in 1994. The group has been in the industry for more than three decades and even though I stumbled on them several years ago, I had to wonder why their music never reached my ears until then. They have a US streaming presence, but it appears none of their songs have landed on any of the billboard charts in the state, just in the UK.

Anyone for Tennis?

Wimbeldon kicks off soon. Let a tennis player, the game, England, or Wimbeldon traditions guide you in your music discovery for some fun song picks!

In our courtship days, DH and I occasionally played tennis. I’m fairly certain in the mid-70s, I had no idea what the game was and definitely didn’t know how to play. I didn’t even own a racket. DH took care of me, though. He bought one for me at Kmart. They had some inexpensive wooden Wilson rackets. It was heavier than a badminton racket so the weight felt odd in my hand. I was quite terrible at the game. I spent more time chasing the ball than keeping the game moving. The worse thing was when I lobbed it over the very tall fence. How embarrassing was that? In the beginning it was, but since I did it so frequently I accepted it and even though I was bad at the game, I had a ball playing!

The first thing that came to mind for today’s music prompt is keeping score in Tennis. 40 Love means the player with possession of the ball has 40 and the opponent has zip, notta, nothing, zero points. I came across two instrumental track titles “Forty Love” by different artists, Jose Givron and Migo 755.

The whole score thing never made sense and why say love instead of zero? At Merriam Webster you can read about the history.

The song that captured my ear and put me in a good mood is a group called 40 Love, “A Song By 40 Love”. There’s little info on the YT channel. The song released in 2021. The artists have that 60s throw back vibe. I can’t understand the lyrics, but I’m pretty sure the words do not reference the sport at all.

I changed the original for Dads with more than one child, then used the Brushstrokes app for a painting like effect. I like the texture of the do-over as it makes the fur stand out.


 

Time of Change Chris Standring

I like doing things kind of easy over the summer. While sorting through my digital slush pile, I found a guitarist John from The Sound of One Hand Typing put me onto one 4M three years ago. I clicked on the first and most recent album release playlist and it was an instant hit with my ears. Here’s the Time of Change album by Chris Standring!

Chris is a British is a jazz guitarist. His career started in 1998 with the release of his first album, Velvet. Since that time he has recorded nearly two dozen studio albums. His best album to do well in the US thus far has been Sunlight from 2018 ranking #7 on the Jazz chart and has several singles to top US Billboard Smooth Jazz Airway – Bossa Blue (2008), Oliver’s Twist (2010), Sneakin’ Out the Front Door (2014), Like This, Like That (2016), Category A and Piccadilly Circus (2017), Is There a Doctor in the House? and Shake You Up (2020), Change the World (2021), and Top Hats & Tails (2025).

Summer Madness

June boasts the most daylight hours. Share music about long sunny days. Express yourself in song however this prompt moves you!

I love the long days of summer! In particular, I love being outdoors in the late to early evening hours. The temperatures are cooling down and if lucky a nice breeze is moving. The ambient light at that time is beautiful golden and relaxing. When the children were young, we’d frequently visit DH’s parents in southern WV and often enjoyed hours around an open fire until long after the lightning bugs came out. Reluctantly, we retreated to the indoors smoky scented and mellowed.

Junebug VS June Bug BOTB Songs

If you’re looking to for the 4M party, it’s now being published on Sundays. No need to rush off just yet, though. I need for you to have a say-so in this Battle of the Bands installment. 🙂

I’m continuing to roll with my seasonal themes for Battle of the Bands. Maybe, you picked up on that already. The old weather proverb that inspired my line of thinking says…March winds and April showers bring May flowers and June bugs. I don’t remember all of it, but it’s pretty accurate.

This time, instead of using two cover versions of the same song, I am putting up two different Junebug or is it June Bug songs to vote on.

Contenter #1 The B-52s. I was surprised to learn this American rock band started in 1976. They had a few hits Love Shack, Roam, Rock Lobster, Private Idaho, and Good Stuff. Honestly, I don’t remember much about this band and all of these hit songs aren’t jingling any bells…well, Love Shack and Rock Lobster maybe. Okay enough rambling, you know what to do! Here’s B-52s with Junebug!

Contender #2 Mac Powell. This guy didn’t sound familiar, but I really like his voice and I think y’all will, too. I did a little digging on him and learned that he founded the early 90s Christian rock band, Third Day. I feel confident I have heard of that group. Anyway, here’s Mac Powell with his June Bug song.
