Victor Ambrus I

Image

And like that I am off on a new tangent of BBC music books, with this fabulous blue one by Victor Ambrus (1935-2021) published in 1974.

Victor studied at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts for three years (1953–56), however his four-year course was interrupted by the 1956 Hungarian Revolution against the Soviet-backed government, during which a building that he and his fellow students held came under fire from the Soviets. He fled Hungry in 1956 for Austria and then England where he won a Gulbenkian scholarship to study printmaking and illustration at the Royal college of Art for three years (1957–60).

Caroline Sharpe IV

Caroline Sharpe's illustrated 'Singing Together BBC Radio For Schools Autumn 1969. The first of a gold mine of amazing illustrations for this production by an array of incredible mid century illustrators.

‘Time and Tune’ was a BBC schools radio series that started in the 1950s, covering music for primary school pupils. Radio programmes were accompanied by these wonderfully  illustrated booklets containing the words and music for the featured songs.
