Hello and welcome to a VERY silly and VERY impulsive project, the Dimilix Timeloop CYOA!

How does this work? I will write part of a story with a poll at the end, and you'll vote on what choice the character (Felix. Of course it's Felix) takes! Then, I'll write a post that continues the story based on the choice that wins the vote! Rinse and repeat until we finish the story or one of us gets bored, whichever comes first.

Have a question? Ask it in the comments and I might give an answer! Anon questions are on for now, but I reserve the right to turn that feature off if people are being dicks.

With all that said, let's get the ball rolling!

 B. Ease Claude in slowly

You cross your arms, thinking for a moment. The last time you just spilled everything went badly, so it's probably good to go more slowly.

“If you knew something would happen in the future,” you start. “Something bad. What would you do.”

Claude's eyebrows pop up in obvious interest. “I'd find out why it happened, and figure out how to prevent it,” he answers easily.

You nod a little. Both of you are on the same page. You always appreciated that about Claude. Every time you challenged him, he met it head on and was able to convince you, one way or another.

(Sometimes he was sneaky and underhanded about it, though. You didn't like that.)

Claude hums, rocking back on his heels. “Asking for a friend?”

You tighten your arms across your chest. Of course he would have questions. You knew going into it that he would.

A. Go with it. Say a bit more of what this “friend” knows.

B. Tell Claude everything. He's proved he's trustworthy.
C. Test Claude. You need to make sure he won't go off and try to kill Edelgard
D. Get going. You don't want to risk telling Claude any more.

 THREE WAY TIE

Explain / just leaving / knock louder

Your face twists up as you look at Lorenz’s slightly rumpled but clearly smoothed hair. What a prissy brat. But, you had fought with him during the war, and he was a reliable fighter. It would probably be a good idea if you at least tried to be courteous.

“I need to talk to Claude,” you explain.

But Lorenz's eyes only narrow further. “And why is that, pray tell?” he asks. “You're a Blue Lion, not a Golden Deer.” He gasps suddenly, a hand flying to his mouth. “Why, are you here for a, a tryst?”

You knock on the door, louder.

Lorenz glares, wincing. “You did that on purpose!”

“Maybe I did!” you snap before reeling yourself in. You're still not completely under control after the near-meltdown from earlier (later?), and you need a breather. “Whatever. I was just leaving. He's obviously not here.”

“Who's obviously not here?”

You look ahead to see Claude leaning in the doorway of his room, smirking. The little shit.

“Claude,” you say. “I need to talk to you.”

“What you should be doing is talking to the leader of the Blue Lions about his classmate's behaviour!” Lorenz pipes up.

Claude glances at Lorenz, grinning, before turning back to Felix. “Sure, come on in. We'll let Lord Gloucester get his beauty sleep.”

You can hear Claude snickering under Lorenz’s outraged sputtering as he leads you into his room and closes the door.

His space is already a mess, his bed filled with at least a dozen books. It's not even been a full day yet. You're almost impressed.

“So,” Claude starts, lacing his fingers behind his head. “What do you need?”

Your back straightens. Right. You came to Claude for a reason, which is:

A. Tell Claude everything. You can't trust the Boar with this information, but you can trust Claude.

B. Ease Claude in slowly. Start with a hypothetical.
C. Panic. This is fucked up, this is all so fucked up. What are you doing? What is happening?

 A. His room

It's the obvious choice to check Claude's room first— it's right next to yours, after all. It's barely two steps over to his door, where you give a brisk knock.

There's no answer. You wait a moment, then knock again, listening after for any movement.

A door unlocks, but not the one in front of you. Instead, the door directly to your right cracks open, and the face of one Lorenz Hellman Gloucester peeks out.

“Excuse me, but some of us are trying to sleep,” he snips irritably.

A. Snip back at him. You never were a fan of Lorenz.

B. Explain that you need to talk to Claude. You were persuaded to tolerate Lorenz during the war, and it would probably be a good idea to avoid an argument in the hallway at dawn.
C. Say you were just leaving. Clearly Claude isn't here.
D. Knock again, louder, just to irritate Lorenz.

B. Find Claude

Talking to the Boar last time didn't work out well, but maybe you can talk to Claude. He's always had a mind for information— what to do with it, how to handle it, who else needs to be in the know. You respect that. Honestly, it took a load off of you during the war. You could be a sword to cut the way, without needing to struggle to decide which direction you should be pointed in. You challenged Claude occasionally, of course, but it was only to check that he was still the kind of person you wanted as a leader. He always was, as far as you knew.

For a moment, you wonder if the world where you died at Gronder is still going. You wonder if they manage to find you in the carnage, if they burn you there or try to take your body back to Faerghus. You wonder if you get laid to rest by Dimitri's side.

Probably not.

You shake your head. You need to focus. You're looking for Claude.

Where are you looking for him?
A. His room, obviously. All the students would be in their rooms right now, except you and Ferdinand.
B. The library. You wouldn't put it past him to be up all night reading even on the first day. Maybe especially on the first day.
C. Roaming the grounds. He would probably want to have a good look at the place when people aren't milling about.
D. The greenhouse. Claude did always have his weird poison hobby…

C. Go for your drawers

You get up from your bed and open the drawers, pulling out new underclothes and your Academy uniform. A part of your mind is still screaming at the wrongness of all of this, but the rest of you is starting to fall into the focused calm you get when leveled with a challenge.

You've been given a unique opportunity to stop the Boar, maybe stop the war itself if you're lucky, and you will stop at nothing to achieve your new goal.

Putting the uniform on is strange. You had forgotten you used to be this thin, stretched by the growth spurts of youth. Having longer hair is odd as well. Still, it is only enough to give you a moment of pause before you finish up and open the door to the hall.

You're just in time to see Ferdinand’s red hair disappear down the stairs. If you had been just a little faster, you might have been stopped by him once again. The thought settles uneasily in your stomach.

Still, you have options, now. The monastery is open to you, at least until classes start, and you have always been an early riser.

A. Find the Professor. Wait, Sylvain said it was the first of Great Tree Moon, and the Professor doesn't come to the monastery until later. Damn it.
B. Find Claude. Wiley as he is, you trusted him before. Maybe you can trust him again.
C. Find Edelgard. Maybe you can stop this war before it starts.
D. Wake up the Boar. You know he's in his room right now, but you need to check.

 A. Tell him everything.

You swallow, then meet the Boar's gaze.

“I remember everything,” you say.

The Boar looks back. “Tell me.”

So you do. You tell him everything from the professor's appearance, through that year at the Academy, Edelgard declaring war, the Boar's supposed execution, five years resisting the Dukedom, the Golden Deer's reunion, pushing back the Empire, and all the way to that fateful day at Gronder Field.

“So, now you know what I mean,” you finish. “You’ll get yourself killed if you go after Edelgard like that, you understand?”

Even as you say it, though, you can see a very familiar look on the Boar's face.

“Thank you, Felix,” he says, eerily calm. “You have given me just the information I need.”

“What do you mean?” you ask, wary.

He goes for the door, not stopping even when you grab for his cloak. You end up dragged along down the hall as he speaks.

“You have given me the perfect opportunity to kill my enemy before she becomes a threat,” he says, almost proud, and it makes your blood run cold.

“Were you even listening?” you shout. “The Tragedy wasn't Edelgard's doing! Chasing after her will only get you killed for nothing!”

“She is in their ranks,” the Boar growls.

In one last ditch attempt, you reach with your other hand and grab him by the arm, digging in your heels.

What happens next is just a flash. The Boar whirls on you, eyes wild and angry. Sensing danger, you withdraw, but not fast enough. The Boar lashes out with his arm. You feel it connect, feel your feet leave the ground as you're knocked back, feel—

.

.

.

You wake up, and you are in your room at Garreg Mach Monastery. It is quiet the way it always is just before dawn arrives.

You now know enough of the pattern to understand what happened. The Boar killed you, and now you're back at the beginning.

You…

A. …scream into your pillow until you feel a little better about all of this.

B. …immediately leave your room. If you are caught in some strange loop, then Ferdinand will come out of his room again, right?
C. …go for your drawers. If you're going to be going through this morning for the third— fourth? time, you can start it by putting on some goddessdamned clothes.

 A. Tell him the truth.

You take a deep breath, like you were taught in bow lessons.

“I saw you. Die,” you manage.

The Boar's brow furrows. “Where? In a dream?”

“No,” you say, then brace yourself for how you're about to sound. “In the. In the future.”

The lines in the Boar's forehead only deepen. “In the future,” he echoes.

“Yes!” you shout, frustrated. “Don't look at me like that, I know because I was there! I spent five years at war thinking you were already dead until you show up in the middle of a battle and get yourself killed right in front of me!”

The Boar closes his eyes and rubs his temples. “I see,” he says. “Then… if you are from the future, how are you here?”

“I don't know,” you admit. “I thought I died, too.”

A moment of silence falls between you two. It's nearly unbearable. But then the Boar clears his throat.

“Do you remember any more from that time?” he asks. He is polite and cautious, but his eyes have an intensity to them that you don't like.

You…

A. Tell him everything, from that year at the Academy all the way to Gronder Field. Maybe then he won't make the same mistakes.

B. Just tell him to trust you. You’re afraid of what will happen if you tell him more.
C. Lie. Tell him your memory is fuzzy for some reason. It would make as much sense as you coming from the literal future.

 C. Refuse to answer

You feel your mouth glue itself shut in response to the Boar's questions. You don't know how to answer him, much less if you should. Would he even believe you if you told the truth?

Unfortunately, the Boar is persistent. “Felix…” he says, gently. As if you are a spooked horse. “Can you tell me what happened?”

You bear your teeth at him. He's treating you like an animal to be tamed when he is the beast. But… you remember what it felt like when he fell under the spears lodged in his back. It was a fate that he deserved, the fool, but you can't let him fall to it again. You can't.

“Felix…” the Boar says again, pleading with his eyes. You have to say something.

A. Tell him the truth. Tell him that you saw him die.
B. Lie. Tell him that you had a bad dream.
C. Insult him. That should get him off your back.

 D. Drag the Boar into your room.

Without looking at anyone, you grab the Boar by the arm and start pulling.

“Felix—” he sputters, but he doesn’t resist as you march him back up the hall.

“What the fuck, Felix! Aren't you going to explain what just happened?” Sylvain calls after you both.

“I'm going to my room,” you manage to grit out. You don't know how to explain, or even what to explain, yet. This is the best you can do.

“Should we call for Manuela?” Ferdinand asks. “Your friend seems mentally disturbed.”

“Oh, nah, he just gets like this sometimes,” you hear Sylvain say. “Give him some space and he'll be fine. Though—” Sylvain cups his hands around his mouth to call: “Don't do anything I wouldn't do, buddy!”

You use your free hand to give Sylvain the finger.

“See? He's feeling better already,” Sylvain says.

Thankfully, you've reached your door by then. You wrench it open, pull the Boar through it, then slam it closed.

You take a deep breath and let it out. You can feel the panic starting to subside.

“Erm…”

You look up at the Boar. He shifts uncomfortably, returning your gaze. He really is good at the wounded puppy look, for a beast.

“Felix…” he starts. “What was that? What did you mean that I would do anything to get to her?”

You feel a growl building in your throat. You're no longer spitting mad, but you still don't have the patience for his questions. You…

A. Tell him the truth. Tell him you know he's going to go after Edelgard.

B. Lie. Tell him you meant what happened when you both quelled the Western Rebellion.
C. Refuse to answer. Everything you could say would be much too revealing.
D. Touch him. Just for a moment, to make sure he's real. You can't.

 C. Ask Sylvain what day it is.

Finally, the panic recedes just enough for a thought to poke through. Why is everyone wearing their Academy uniforms? What does Sylvain mean by “the first day”?

A second thought makes it through the haze.

“Sylvain,” you say, pointedly ignoring the other two people who have said words to you in the last few minutes. “What day is it?”

For a second, something flickers across Sylvain's insouciant smile.

“Uh, first of Great Tree Moon?” he replies. “First day of class? Is this a test?”

You feel the emotions threaten to boil over again. You take a deep breath, and…

A. …yell at Sylvain. This is clearly his fault.
B. …go back into your room and shut the door. You need to deal with this alone and without people staring at you.
C. …drag Sylvain into your room and shut the door. If anyone can handle you as you possibly have a meltdown, it's him.
D. …drag the Boar into your room and shut the door. Now that you know where he is, you're not letting him out of your sight.

 B. Yell at the Boar

It's so easy to turn your uncontrolled fire onto the Boar. After all, this is his fault. Whatever afterlife you're trapped in is because of him, because of how your destinies are forever entwined.

Don't,” you spit, furious. “Don't— I've seen you! I've seen how you really are, no one believes me but I've seen it, the bloodthirsty beast under your mask. You'll stop at nothing to get to her, you'll cut down your own soldiers, you'll let yourself get—”

Your throat closes suddenly. You can't say it.

Meanwhile, the Boar has the audacity to look concerned.

“Her?” he echoes. “Felix, what are you talking about?”

Around this time, the farthest door opens, and Sylvain strides out, casual in that careful way he always has that you didn't realize until five years into the war.

“Geez, Felix! I knew you had a bone to pick with His Highness, but I didn't think you'd be going for his throat on the first day,” he says, laughing.

What does he mean “the first day”? Why is he wearing the old Academy uniform? Why is everyone wearing it?

A. Yell at the Boar some more. You're not done with him.

B. Yell at Sylvain. He deserves it for spitting nonsense at you when you're feeling like this.
C. Ask Sylvain what day it is. Something doesn't add up.
D. Retreat immediately. You need out of this hall, away from everyone looking at you.

 D. Panic

This has happened to you before, when you were younger. Sometimes, you would tell your tutor the wrong answer, or you would have a fight with Dima, or you would be put onto the back of a horse that was much too big for you, and the ensuing emotions would simply be too much for your body to contain. That gave you a bit of a reputation as a crybaby, and after the Tragedy you finally understood how imperative it was that you stop.

However, that doesn't mean that it didn't happen. It only changed how it manifested.

“Get the fuck away from me!”

The words are out of your mouth before you can even register that you thought them, your voice loud enough to echo in the stone hall.

Ferdinand withdraws, looking worried and slightly wounded.

“If I have done anything to cause offense…” he starts.

“Shut the fuck up,” you growl. You're breathing too fast. You don't know how to stop it. “This is wrong. This is all wrong. You shouldn't be here! You’re supposed to be in the Empire, and your hair was long, and I'm—”

You died. You know you died. You try to suck in more air, but it hurts so much, like when your chest was torn open on the point of a lance.

This is all wrong.

Ferdinand now looks a bit frightened as well. You hear a couple doors opening as students warily peek their heads out into the hall, but it all falls away as the door second from the back opens, and the Boar walks out.

He looks like he did on their first day at the Academy, his uniform crisp and armor shining, his face the perfect level of expression. Right now his face is wearing the mask of concern as he walks towards you.

“Felix? Felix, are you alright?”

A. Try to explain what's happening. You can barely put two thoughts together, much less explain the profound wrongness of all this.

B. Yell at the Boar. It won't get you anywhere, but you might feel better.
C. Withdraw. You can't be looked at, you can't be touched. It's too much.
D. Throw your arms around Dimitri. You can't. You can't. You can't.

D. You need to find the Boar.

Your name is Felix Hugo Fraldarius, and you're alive, despite very clearly remembering dying. But that doesn't matter— there's only one thing that does.

You need to find the Boar.

You stumble out of your room barefoot and in your nightclothes, but you don't care. You saw him. You saw him, shaggy blonde hair and black armor and bared teeth. He looked awful, his one eye wild and bloodshot, but he was alive.

Until he wasn't.

You move down the hall of the dormitories with purpose. You need to find him immediately, even if it's just… it’s just…

You just need to know.

However, the Goddess must be scheming against you, because you aren't even to the stairs when one of the doors opens, revealing none other than Ferdinand von Aegir.

However, it's not the Ferdinand von Aegir you saw at Gronder, grim and shining, with his long red hair blowing in the wind like the brightest Imperial banner. No, this Ferdinand is like a memory come to life, right down to his perfectly pressed Academy uniform.

“Why, good morning!” he says. Oh, you had not missed that voice. “Another early bird, I see! Fraldarius, was it?”

You need to act fast. You need to find the Boar, and you know that once von Aegir starts talking, he does not shut up.

A. Give a curt answer. Enough to satisfy him without opening further conversation.
B. Shut him down. You don't have time for this.
C. Just keep walking. You really don't have time for this.
D. Ask what the eternal flames he's doing here. Shouldn't he be with the rest of the Imperial army?

[Content warnings: violence, character death]

Your name is Felix Hugo Fraldarius, and you are about to die.

It happens so quickly. One moment, you are wading through bodies in Gronder Field, soaked in blood up to your waist, cutting down anyone who stands in your way. The next, you're soaked up to your armpits, because there is a spear in one of them, and the blood is your blood. You land half on top of the swordmaster you just felled.

For a split second, you wonder where you went wrong, but the answer is clear in front of you.

The Boar. It's always the damned Boar.

He was your best friend, once. Then the Tragedy happened, and not only did your brother die, but something of him died as well, leaving only a beast to play at being a man. You tried to tell everyone, screamed until you were blue in the face, but no one listened. You thought he was dead for years, but this battle has proved him alive and more beastly than ever. He tore through soldiers with his clawed gauntlets as much as his spear, his bellowing rising above even the din of armies clashing.

But like a beast, like a maddened boar, he had no plan, no sense. He went for the Emperor on her hill, even as he started to get overwhelmed.

You don't know when you got closer, but you were able to see clearly the moment he fell under the onslaught.

It felt like nothing you'd ever felt before.

Then there was a spear in your side, and you fell.

You'd spent so long trying to resist this fate. You told yourself for so many years that you weren't going to die for the Boar, went so far as changing classes, so far as marching under the banner of the Alliance.

But here you are. You're fucking bleeding out on the ground, and you can't even pretend that you weren't cutting through Imperials in some mad dash to try and save him from his own stupidity. You can't even pretend that your last thought isn't going to be deep, crushing regret, the breadth and weight of the sea. If you had just been a little bit faster, a little bit stronger...

Could you have saved him?

Could you have stopped him?

Distantly, you feel the trickle of something hot and wet down your cheek.

Then, there's nothing.

.

.

.

.

You wake with a start.

You sit up in your dorm at Garreg Mach. It's quiet the way it always is just as dawn arrives, when you normally wake up.

Your heart pounds in your chest. A part of you can still feel the excruciating pain of it torn open on the point of a spear, but you are whole. You aren't even bandaged, wearing only the same shift and braies you always wear to bed. When you get up, it's easy, with only the barest ache on your inner thighs, like when you've been riding for a long time.

What's going on?

You try to breathe, to calm down. You just need a direction. You need...

A. ... to find the Professor. They're so unflappable, they probably wouldn't bat an eye if you told them what just happened.
B. ... to find Claude. You can't tell him what you're thinking, but if he can give you direction. He's always at the eye of the storm.
C. ... to find Manuela. You don't like the idea of talking to her, but maybe she'll give you something to clear your head.
D. ... to find the Boar. You have to. You just have to.
