Bilderbuchhafte Sonnenaufgänge reihen sich dieser Tage aneinander. Wie ich es liebe, abends ins Bett zu gehen, wissend, dass morgen die Sonne wieder scheint. Und wenn es regnete, wäre es auch ein Segen. Die Wolken, die heute schon bald nach Sonnenaufgang aufzogen, brachten ännet dem Bodensee ein paar Tropfen, bei uns blieb es hingegen trocken.

Yes, I know: It’s dry due to the many sunny days we have had, the wind and the heat. Nonetheless, I love going to bed at night knowing tomorrow will be another sunny day. And if it rained, it would be a blessing, too. Shortly after sunrise today, dark clouds were piling up, but they brought rain on the other side of Lake Constance. We didn’t get a drop.

Weil es auch drinnen schön ist, wenn draussen die Sonne brennt, nähe ich stundenlang. Hemdenquilt Nr. 3 hat nur 24 Quadrate, die ich mit dunklen Mitten arrangiere, zusammennähe, senfgelb umrande und weinrot einfasse. Den senfgelben Stoff habe ich in den Pfingstferien im Brockenhaus gefunden.

Because it is lovely inside of the house if there’s sunshine outside, I am sewing for hours. Patchwork Quilt Nr. 3 has got 24 which I’m arranging with the darks sides inwards. I’m sewing them all together and framing them with mustard yellow. For the binding I have chosen burgundy, the same fabric I used scarcely in the blocks. I found the mustard yellow fabric in a thrift store a while ago already with this quilt in mind.

Noch heute werde ich die Einfassung absteppen und ab morgen nach und nach die Hemdenknöpfe annähen, damit die drei Lagen zusammenhalten. Als Füllung habe ich ein altes Barchentleintuch verwendet, weshalb ich es mit dem quilten locker nehmen kann. Da verschiebt nichts, auch wenn ich nur punktuell fixiere.

I’m going to sew the binding today and will sew on the buttons to fix the three layers. I used a winter sheet as filling, so punctual quilting will be enough.

Mit den Quadraten habe ich mich übrigens bös verzählt, so dass ich jetzt drei übrig habe, dazu auch noch genügend Stoff, um einen vierten „Aus-Vaters-Hemden“ Quilt für die Schwester zu nähen. Es wird mir auch noch ein viertes Muster einfallen.

There are three blocks left as I miscalculated badly. There is also enough left of my father’s shirts to sew a fourth patchwork quilt for my sister. I can think of another pattern easily, and there is always a difference in frame, backside and binding.
