SFF Countries Project

Annemieke @ A Dance With Books has started The SFF Countries Project, where she is creating a resource list of Science Fiction and Fantasy books which are set in (real, not fictional) countries other than the USA and England. I thought this was a good idea, so I decided to make my own list as well. I am using her rules and country list as a starting point, though I may make modifications to one or both.

  • Has to be read by me, starting with books read in 2021.
  • Has to be written or translated to English.
  • No England or USA on this list. (Exception: I will include SFF books from the USA if they are Indigenous-focused.)
  • Has to be a sci-fi or fantasy book.
  • Preferably books written by authors of the same cultural heritage or which have decent rep of culture/country as deemed by own voice reviewers. (However, I am not tracking #ownvoices for this list.)
  • Can have multiple entries per country.
  • Historical Fantasy or Alternate Universes can be added if the country is still real and specified.

This is going to be a long-term project, but it has the potential to really broaden my reading. I just hope I remember to keep updating the list as I read.
