Audio Book Review: Just Frankie, Actually by Brittany Larsen

Image

I enjoyed this story when I first read it and it was a blast to go back and relive the story through audio! The narrators did a nice job with the voices and I enjoyed hearing Frankie’s Aussie accent.

Frankie and Cal’s connection and growing romance was so sweet, as was the way Frankie bonded with Cal’s little girl, Junie. These two worked hard to try to put others before themselves in their decisions, but the stress of the world discovering where Frankie had been hiding away was a lot to deal with.

I appreciated the way Cal and Frankie worked to communicate with each other and the way their friends and family would call them out when they were reverting to reactions that stemmed from hurts in the past.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Image

I came to Serenity Cove to disappear. Falling for the hot single dad was never part of the plan.

For the first time in my life, nobody wants anything from me beyond a fresh pot of coffee and a slice of pie.

Not the regulars at the diner where I work under a fake name.
Not the small town that’s slowly, stubbornly starting to feel like home.
And not Cal Holloway—the local veterinarian, devoted single dad, and the one man who looks at me like I’m just Frankie.

Not Hollywood’s former darling.
Not a billionaire’s disappointment.
Not a woman with a past she’s trying to forget.

Just Frankie.

Which would be a whole lot less terrifying if Cal weren’t kind, steady, and the sort of man who’s deeply inconvenient to a woman trying not to want anything. Or if his little girl didn’t keep sneaking past my defenses. And if being part of their world didn’t feel so dangerously close to everything I’ve ever wanted.

Serenity Cove was meant to be a place to lie low. Keep my head down. Stay out of trouble. Easy enough—until Cal. Now this town, this man, and his little girl are getting under my skin in ways that feel equal parts lovely and reckless.

But hiding doesn’t last forever. And when the life I left behind comes calling, I have to decide whether to go back to the future everyone expects of me . . . or stay in the one place that’s started to feel like mine—with the man who sees me more clearly than anyone ever has.

Just Frankie, Actually is the fourth book in the Love in LA series but can be read as a stand-alone. Perfect for fans of Notting Hill and Katherine Center and readers who love single dads, celebrities in hiding, quirky small towns, and flamingos.

Review: The Bachelor Spy by Pepper Basham

Image

I loved this story! The author really captured, in this story, the feelings that were evoked when I originally read The Mistletoe Countess. The connection and love between Frederick and Grace continues to be one of my favorites and this didn’t dissappoint.

She also added a thrilling romance for Stephen Blake, who is a British spy, Lord Astley’s cousin, and a favorite of both Frederick and Grace. I loved seeing the way he balanced his care for Grace with the need to complete his mission and capture those working for the enemy.

This story kept me happily turning pages from start to finish and I loved the way the author wrapped everything up at the end.

My Review

Image

The beginning of this book built gently, as Leanna began to venture out to the Amish Widow’s Club and started to imagine her life differently than she had before. Building friendships with other women was something that she had been missing in her unhappy marriage.

This book really took off and I began to fly through the pages as the potential for a loving and happy relationship with Evan presented itself. However, Leanna had such fear. It was hard, as the reader, to know that Evan would be a wonderful match for her yet see her be afraid to reach for the possibility of happiness. The back and forth between them and the uncertainty that flared up at times felt so realistic, though, as they wrestled with what a future together should look like.

I ended up thoroughly enjoying this story, loving the sweet epilogue, and looking forward to the next book in the series.

Review: The Amish Rancher’s Return by Amy Lillard

Image

In this second chance romance, both Priscilla and Isaiah fought the attraction they still felt for each other because they both felt as if the other had wronged them. I appreciated that they behaved like adults and eventually sat down together and discussed what had happened.

It was sweet to see that even though Isaiah was hurt that Priscilla had moved on and married her late husband, he recognized that Priscilla’s sweet twin daughters would not have been born if things had not progressed the way they did. I felt for Priscilla, as she struggled with examining her heart and confirming that she had never loved anyone else the way she loved Isaiah.

This was a sweet and uplifting story.

Review: Until April by Janet W. Ferguson

Image

This powerful story really tugged on my emotions. Michael was such a firmly entrenched non believer who grew frustrated with those in the novel who would share about their faith. Yet, he cared about April and her son and wanted to help them.

I appreciated these emotionally scarred characters. They had a lot to work through both from the past and in the present. The believers in this story were unapologetic in those beliefs and their actions and care for April and others in need showed that they tried to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

Themes of grace and forgiveness were woven through the story along with some moments that were hard to explain away for Michael.

Until April is part of the Coastal Hearts series, but you do not have to have read the other books to enjoy this one.

(5 stars)

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Image

Michael Galloway has always believed freedom means living life on his own terms. His career is dedicated to saving the environment and teaching others the importance of taking care of the earth, rivers, and oceans. He’s building a life with no room for complications. Especially in his love life.

Then tragedy turns April Yancy’s world upside down.

After her husband’s death, April discovers he’d been hiding devastating secrets, leaving her buried in debt and struggling to protect her children’s future. The last person she expects to come to her rescue is Michael—the man who shattered her heart years ago.

Michael has few regrets, but hurting April back in grad school still haunts him. When her situation grows desperate, he devises a risky plan to help her rebuild her life…even if it means jeopardizing his carefully guarded independence.

Accepting Michael’s shocking offer could cost April more than her pride. His resistance to her faith clashes with the convictions she holds dear, and trusting him again feels impossible. Yet as doors keep opening and her prayers keep nudging her toward him, April begins to wonder if God is offering her a second chance at more than survival.

An emotional second-chance love story of forgiveness, redemption, and unexpected faith.

Review: Second Shot at Love by Carolyn Miller

Image

Once I dove into this novel, I could hardly set it down! The author captured Gen and Kyle’s emotions throughout the story amazingly well. Kyle was a fairly new Christian, and in the book, we see him struggle with various things and react in ways, at times, that are not the way God would want him to. However, with the help and prayers of his friends, he grows so much and ends up showing a beautiful example of forgiveness, love, humbleness, and care that could only have come from God. Gen is not a Christian, and Kyle ends up being an amazing example to her of the way God loves us and forgives us. I loved how much both of these characters grew throughout this book. It was a captivating story.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Will secrets spoil their second shot at love?

Since that, she’s done all she can to make up for it and make them proud, and is now working as a junior doctor in one of Seattle’s leading hospitals. Everything is finally tracking as it should be, until one day a blast from the past re-enters her life.

Ten years ago Kyle Tinker thought he had it all. Until a night of celebration went too far and he lost the person he held most dear as he chased his NHL dream. Now he might be Seattle’s top player, but his hard shot and skills on the ice aren’t enough to dodge the guilt now he’s returned to his old stomping ground.

When injury reunites these two, regrets soar and secrets become increasingly hard to hide, threatening to fracture two families. And while God is a healer and redeemer of broken pasts, can they learn the power of forgiveness to find a way forward?

A second chance Christian romance, book 6 in the Northwest Ice series (but can be read as a standalone), perfect for fans of stories with hope, heart and humor.

Audio Book Review: Home Safe by Tracy Baack

Image

Ever since I read this book when it released last year, I have thought that it would be an amazing story to listen to in audio and wished that it was available in that format. So I was thrilled to be able to listen to an early audio copy of Home Safe and can say that it is even better than I imagined it would be! The narrators truly did a fantastic job bringing all of the characters to life. And even though I recently reread this book, I still loved diving back into the story in audio, finishing it much faster than I anticipated since I didn’t want to stop listening.

If you enjoy characters who don’t resist diving into difficult conversations and working through things like adults, this is a story I think you would like. It also explores the realities of childhood trauma and how it affects children who have experienced it. I loved how caring and devoted Griffin was to both Danae and Jason. This story makes me happy whenever I read (or listen) to it.

(5 stars)

I received a complimentary copy of this audio book, however, I also purchased my own print copy.

If you would like to read my original review, you can HERE.

Releases in audio on June 22, 2026.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Image

Opposites may attract, but their differences could turn the relationship into a strikeout instead of a home run.

Danae Collins’ stable, quiet life as an elementary school librarian is upended when she becomes the guardian for one of her students in foster care. She carefully plans for every contingency on the road to permanent adoption—every contingency except crossing paths with a famous baseball player.

Griffin West is the star shortstop and “darling” of the Kansas City Crowns baseball team. Everything is on the line as he returns to the major leagues after a season-ending injury. When Danae brings her new son to Griffin’s baseball camp, the tug he feels toward her is a curveball he never saw coming.

On paper, their lives seem incompatible. But as they spend time together, the safety they find in each other only deepens. Will real obstacles ultimately break or bond them forever?

Home Safe is an opposites attract, single guardian baseball romance for fans of meaningful contemporary romance. This is perfect for readers who want a closed-door sports romance with plenty of swoon but no spice.

Review: Her Reluctant Amish Heart by Pamela Desmond Wright

Image

This story had so many good examples of forgiving hearts. I appreciated that even though Anika was reluctant at first, she genuinely forgave Elam and was able to see that he was being authentic in his work and care for her family.

I thought it was very realistic that even as Elam began to have a heart change about God, being Amish, and even falling for Anika, he still struggled to let go of his previous lifestyle when tempted.

These two characters exhibited those emotions that we struggle with in real life, as well as the fears and worries that can weigh us down. I enjoyed this sweet story.

(4 stars)

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Image

Can her guarded heart
find its way to love and redemption?

When a reckless street race injures her brother, Anika Glick wants nothing to do with the man responsible—especially when he’s sentenced to help her family. But Elam Muller is desperate to prove he’s changed. As they work together on her family farm, Anika finds herself drawn to Elam’s remorse and kindness. But when they’re presented with one last risky race that could secure their future or destroy it all, everything they’ve built is put to the test. Will their growing love survive the pull of the past—or will it all come crashing down?

Audio Book Review: Green Card Christmas by Jen Atkinson

Image

This was such a sweet story, with fun moments but also two main characters with tender hearts that even years later were still dealing with the trauma of losing Stella’s older brother, who was also Roman’s best friend. Stella was so afraid to admit to Roman that she didn’t actually need a green card to stay in the country. What started as a miscommunication led to a marriage built on a lie. Although it was hard to see Stella continue the farce rather than face the fallout of the untruth, it was clear that it was weighing heavily on her.

I loved the way things eventually cleared up and the way the truth came out. Seeing these two begin to actually connect, share, and look toward a possible future together was so sweet!

Listening to this story on audio was an absolute joy! I loved the voices for both Stella and Roman. It really brought them to life.

(5 stars)

I received a complimentary copy of this audio book, but I also own the ebook. All opinions are my own.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Image

She needed a lucky break. He wanted to be left alone. Was marriage really the answer?

Roman Graves
has made a name for himself as one of the top midfielders in the U.S. lower division soccer league—and as the Red Tails’ resident grump. He wants two things: solitude with a remote cabin in the woods, far from his overly friendly teammates. But team rules say no wife, no off-site housing. And Roman? Very single.

Enter Stella Everly–creative soul, introverted dreamer, possibly cursed, as well as the little sister of Roman’s late best friend. Stella is recently jobless, homeless, and desperate to keep every failure hidden from her worrywart parents. When a misunderstanding leads Roman to believe that she is about to be deported (she’s not!), he swoops in with a solution to save them both: a beneficial, no-attachment marriage.

It’s supposed to be temporary. Problem solving. A means to an end.

But for Roman, feuding with Stella is healing his heart. Tearing down her walls might be making his own crumble, all while bringing peace to his soul. He’s breaking all the rules of this fake marriage, finding himself again, and he is most definitely falling for the girl.

Review: Part of Your World by Karen Witemeyer

Image

There is so much to love in this retelling of The Little Mermaid, including the way the author crafted the villainess, Mrs. Underhill. She created a character who wielded her control and used her cunning wits to manage everyone around her.

Muriel ended up caught in a web of lies due to her association with Mrs. Underhill and I was concerned, at first, about the lies she was wrapped up in. However, the author managed this beautifully and strengthened Muriel’s character, having her “come clean” to the hero in a timely manner.

It was a bit of a slow start for me, however, eventually I was rapidly turning pages to see what was going to happen. This was lots of fun to read.

(4.5 stars)

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Image

She saved him from the sea. He awakened her heart. Now a villainous scheme threatens to destroy them both.

Yet even when banished from her beloved sea, Muriel feels its pull upon her soul. Drawn to the shore, she witnesses a boating accident and dives in to save a man from drowning. As she brings him back from the brink of death, a dream stirs to life in her heart.

Despite his family’s wealth and social standing, Zane Erickson pursues a career in architecture, having no interest in cementing a match with any of the bridal candidates his mother foists upon him. Until a mysterious beauty saves his life and vanishes before he can learn her name. Determined to find her, he is stunned when the matchmaker his mother hired arrives with the very woman who has haunted his dreams. But he soon learns there are darker forces than romance at work in this meeting.

Entangled in a blackmail scheme that grows more deceitful and dangerous by the day, Zane and Muriel must fight not only for their love, but for the lives of those they hold dear.
