It's official, and it'll be announced today. So I'm sharing the email AO3 gave me to send to By Your Command authors, because I only have email addresses for a few of you, and I'm reaching out by all means possible.

Here's the email that AO3 had me send the By Your Command authors:

"Through a mix of software failure on my PC and a funding issue, the By Your Command 2 archive, which has always been closed, can't be maintained on its old platform at Slashcity.

I've contacted the Organization for Transformative Works (OTW) for help to move the archive's content to a collection on the multi-fandom archive they maintain, the Archive of Our Own (AO3). Specifically, I will be working with the Open Doors committee. (You can read about their recent import projects at this link.)

Here is where I would like to ask for your help!

1. If you already have an AO3 account and have posted your By Your Command works there, please let me know your By Your Command pseud(s) and e-mail address(es) as well as your AO3 account name, so that we won’t import your stories. (There is a tutorial on the Open Doors website with instructions for mass-adding stories to the new collection on the AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/collections/ByYourCommand/profile.)

Work is now starting to move the old (closed) BSG slash archive By Your Command - byyourcommandv2.com/Index1.html - to AO3 as part of the Open Door scheme.

Questions and queries? Send 'em to me!

Also, could people from the old BSG slash community, spread the word? Cheers! More info when I have it.

I've reanimated this community and will leave it up as a record  of fics. This post should be enough to keep it alive for a year. If you want it to go on beyond that, someone who's active on LJ will need to take ownership of it and take it off my hands.

Cheers!

Battlestar_Slash   is open for business.  As the welcome message says, it's for fanfiction and discussion revolving around the original TV series Battlestar Galactica.   It aims to be an open and tolerant list for those lovers and writers of the original series Battlestar Galactica to post their stories, to comment on fiction posted by others and discuss anything BSG related that takes their fancy and generally have fun.

Come along and play!

Yeah, yeah. I'll bet I'm late to the party again, but this has been brought to my attention and I thought I'd share with those of you who are as far behind the times as I am. There even seems to be a director lined up.  So this could be real.

See the (less than delighted) article on the  Sc-Fi movie page.  The writer is not a fan of the original series, but who the hell cares.

So, a BSG reboot.   What do you all think of that?  And who shall we have playing the characters?  I've kept broadly to the ethnicity of the original, but feel free to lob in the actor you think would be best for the part, ethnicity irrelevant.  No Serena or Cassie, because I want the SLASH reboot, of course.  But sing out if you have candidates for those roles

POLL time!

Poll #1724395 REBOOT!

So, they might be doing a remake of original BSG as a movie

Null points from the Ukrainian Judge.  No entries at all.

I managed a couple of thousand words of rubbish before giving up on it, but it's helped me make a decision about what to do with this comm over the summer.  I actually want to concentrate on finishing Taking Shield - it's only been 6 years in the writing, after all - and will then post that.  We're all busy doing other things over the summer, so I don't intend to set any more challenges until September.

If any of you want to set a challenge, though, go right ahead.  Either choose something from the master list of prompts or come up  with something entirely new, I don't mind.  And it may even tempt me into having a go...

Have a great summer, peeps.

An item on the BBC news site about a remake of Hawaii 5-0 prompted me to go and have a look on You Tube to see what was there from the original.  This clip, starring a young Dirk Benedict, was almost the first one I found.  God, he's young and pretty!  The clip doesn't end well for him though!

Big day here in the UK today, with a general election that could leave us with a hung Parliament and no clear direction.  It got me thinking that on the show there wasn't much made of the tension between the military and civilians.  Not until towards the end of the series, in Baltar's Escape, did the writers do anything much with the political tensions that must have been rife in the Fleet.  They didn't do a lot, but they did a bit.

We can do better, I'm sure.  Personal politics, sexual politics, social politics, politics politics/ elections, shenanigans, plotting, alliances/ political friends and political enemies/ politicians, voters, commentators/ democracy, theocracy, military rule.... the permutations are endless.  Let's see what you can make of it by writing, drawing, vidding or iconising (!) something to do with politics.

And, as usual:

post here by MIDNIGHT, 31 MAY. Remember:

(i) use the header format set out in the community info and put your entry under a cut. Don't forget to add appropriate flags for adult content etc. Warn appropriately for themes that are common triggers.

(ii) tag your entry as 'politics'

(iii) Use your author/artist tag. If this is your first go at a challenge, create yourself a tag that follows this format:
author: your username
artist: your username
vidder: your username

So mine is author: starry_diadem

(iv) don't post elsewhere until the challenge is over on 31 May although signposting through to this comm from your own journal is cool.

Have fun!
