Yesterday I cleaned all the HEPA filters in the house and ran them on full roar, wore an N95 mask when out, wore a KN95 indoors in my house during the worst of it, and still was absolutely laid out by the particulates. This smoke plume is no joke even on the east coast. Take it seriously.

Grateful to live somewhere that has so normalized masks that I lost count of how many I saw outdoors yesterday.

craft time!

I've been not exactly pleased with the glow effect on the carved teeth I did in my leather mask for my Tainted character for Dystopia Rising. I've been giving thought to how to get a better concentration of glow in the carved lines, and if I can find the LIT powder, my process should be pretty good here. I got one of the precision glue bottles with the three tips, and I've used the very fine tips to lay a line of paint down in the lines, and it's helping a lot.

Now if I can find the powder to make it even MORE glow, I'll be happy. Fortunately it all dries clear.

Hey there, Just Married author! Hi. How's it going?

A quick overview: I'm brandnewsoul on AO3, and you can also check me out on Tumblr at viewparadise. Bookmarks can kind of give you an idea of what I'm interested in reading, and the Tumblr is to, IDK, give you an idea of what piques my interest/hopefully link you to some fun stuff to look at.

As far as things that I enjoy in stories: pining that leads to love, banter, that moment when Character A really Sees Character B, rivals to lovers, epistolary works, teamwork making the dream work, angst that leads to a happy ending, silliness, forced proximity, sex pollen, smarts and snark. I'm not into character death, most noncon, or Dead Dove situations. Treats are much appreciated, if you see something that catches your eye!

With that said, here's what I'm looking for. )

That's it for now! Happy writing.

I am learning the woodwinds

I have acquired a clarinet and as of today, I know the fingering for five notes (C, D, E, F, and G), and only squeaked a couple of times while figuring out the register key (which pops it up an octave). Fortunately music reading is music reading, so my ability to read music for a clarinet is just like reading music for a guitar is just like reading music for a trumpet is just like reading music for a hymn.

I wonder how some of the hymns are for a clarinet?

It is a red clarinet, and I am rather excited to get to play more on it, but I am also having to remind myself that learning is no more than an hour a day because my mouth muscles get tired.

I'm hoping that the delivery tomorrow of the new dressers from Ikea don't come in the middle of my assigned practice time. I almost started looking up my Uncle's phone number on the internet to call him up and ask, "UNCLE ANDREW WHY WILL THE CLARINET NOT MAKE NOISE???" and I shifted my chin and then it made noise! I have to relax my face a lot more than I did playing trumpet.
