Colour INKspiration – CI210

This challenge at Colour INKspiration welcomes the beautiful new 2026–2028 In Colours from Stampin’ Up! — Barely Blush, Crisp Cantaloupe, Golden Glow, Peaceful Pine and Hydrangea Hue. It’s such a lovely collection of colours, with a softness to them that still feels rich and grounded.

For this challenge, we were invited to showcase two or more of the new In Colours and can team them up with our regular selection of Basics – Basic White, Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Basic Beige, Basic Black and Metallics. For my project, I managed to include four of them. Not that I have anything against Hydrangea Hue… it just wasn’t quite the right fit for this particular design!

To bring the palette to life, I paired the colours with the absolutely gorgeous Boutique Blooms Bundle. That full bloom rose is such a standout feature — soft, elegant and impossible to resist.

For the flowers, I stamped the rose in Barely Blush and Crisp Cantaloupe. One of the things I really love about this set is its versatility. The floral images include an outline stamp designed for colouring, meaning you can use your favourite colouring medium or the coordinating fill stamps for a quicker layered effect — which is the approach I used here.

I also created an additional flower along with several stamped and die-cut leaves in Peaceful Pine, arranging them onto a layer of Basic White cardstock. To soften the background and tie the design together, I lightly blended Barely Blush ink around the edges.

To finish the card, I added a sentiment stamped in Peaceful Pine onto Barely Blush cardstock, fussy cut and layered over ribbon and a die-cut banner. A sprinkling of butterfly gems completed the project with just the right amount of sparkle.

This card feels soft, fresh and beautifully balanced — the perfect way to welcome a brand-new collection of In Colours.

Colour INKspiration – CI209

Another Colour INKspiration challenge is here #CI209 — and this time we’re playing with a beautifully earthy palette of Gorgeous Grape, Garden Green, Cloud Cover and Basic Beige. And can we take a moment for that inspiration image? I would happily recreate that dreamy outdoor setting in my own backyard for entertaining… wouldn’t you?

What first inspired me about this challenge wasn’t actually the colours — it was the feeling of the image. Being surrounded by nature while still sitting within a structured space. I know… slightly random creative thoughts over here 😂 But that idea became the starting point for this card.

To bring that concept to life, I used a frame stamp from the Exciting Times Stamp Set to create the look of windows.

Using the richness of Gorgeous Grape ink also gave me the chance to play with generational stamping — stamping once at full strength, then stamping again without re-inking to create a softer variation of the same colour. It’s such an easy way to add depth while keeping your palette cohesive.

I then fussy cut the centres of the windows, helping to give that inside–outside feel. Before adhering onto Basic Beige cardstock, added an extra layer of Greenery Lane Washi Tape, creating extra depth and enhancing the feeling of peeking beyond nature’s elements. These layers then went onto a Thick Basic White card base.

With my base design complete, this created space to decorate with leafy elements from the Greenery Lane Die Set along with coordinating washi tape.

This is one of the things I love most about Stampin’ Up! — their products are designed to work beautifully together, making the creative process feel simple and enjoyable.

To finish the card, I added some Cloud Cover ribbon for texture, a sentiment stamped in Garden Green onto Cloud Cover cardstock, and a scattering of shimmer flat pearls for a little extra sparkle.

This one feels equal parts earthy, elegant and just a little whimsical — which feels like a pretty fun combination to me.

Colour INKspiration – CI206

Sometimes, you just need to craft.
Not just because you love it (which we all do), but because you need to.

It’s been a tough week for me, and sitting down to create felt like exactly what I needed. So I turned to the latest Colour INKspiration challenge — and honestly, it was the perfect reset.

This palette is such a fun one, inspired by a playful image and featuring Pumpkin Pie, Shaded Spruce and Gray Granite. What I love about colours with this depth is how easily they can be extended — by lightening or layering, you naturally create a broader, more versatile palette.

For this project, I kept things relatively simple but aimed for high impact — something uplifting and satisfying to make. The Layers of Beauty bundle never fails to deliver on that.

I started by stamping the floral outline in Gray Granite. It’s a warm grey that adds definition without overpowering the design. From there, I used the coordinating five-piece stencil set to build up the colour — a wonderfully low-stress way to add depth and detail. I chose Pumpkin Pie for the flowers and Shaded Spruce for the leaves.

But the real star of this card is the background.

I wanted to soften the stark white of the card base and introduce a loose, streaky texture. To achieve this, I began by lightly spritzing Basic White cardstock (a little unconventional, but worth it!). Then I added a few drops of Gray Granite ink refill to my glass mat, diluted it with water, and painted directly onto the cardstock.

Technique Tip:
Keep your brushstrokes moving in a consistent direction to create that soft, linear texture. Use a light hand so the strokes remain visible rather than blending away.

Once I was happy with the effect, I thoroughly dried the cardstock with my heat tool — flipping it over and drying from both sides to help minimise warping.

From there, the card came together quite simply. I adhered the layers with Tear & Tape, then used liquid glue to position the floral element. To add a little extra detail, I included leaf die cuts in green foil (the sparkle is subtle in photos, but beautiful in real life).

I finished the card with a sentiment and a few holographic gems for a final touch of shine.

This was one of those projects that felt as good to make as it does to share — a small creative moment that made a big difference.

Colour INKspiration – CI203

Welcome back to another year of creative inspiration with the Colour INKspiration crew!
We’re a group of colour-loving crafters who find joy in exploring beautiful colour combinations together. Each fortnight, a new challenge is released, featuring a curated colour palette and an inspiration image to spark ideas.

The crew shares their projects inside our Facebook group, and all crafty people are welcome to join in. Whether you’re looking for a creative nudge or love working with colour, we’d love to have you crafting along with us this year.

To kick things off for 2026, our first challenge features a calming trio of cool tones: Balmy Blue, Azure Afternoon and Smokey Slate.

Here’s how I used these colours in my project…

Rose Packer, Creative Roses, Stampin' Up!, Gears & Textures.

I began by creating a loose, watercoloured background — spritzing water, dabbing ink, smudging with Water Painters, drying, then blending more ink. It’s one of my favourite stages, as it allows you to loosen up and embrace a little creative mess.

Next, I decorated the card front using stamps and die-cut elements from the Gears & Textures bundle. When working with bundles like this, I like to start by cutting a variety of pieces first. I don’t over-visualise the final result — instead, I let my design instincts guide me, selecting and arranging elements based on balance, scale and colour until the composition feels right.

Once I have a basic structure in place, I build in layers of texture using stamps and finishing touches like rub-ons, stencilling and embellishments. These projects are very much a try-it-and-see process, which is part of what makes them so enjoyable.

Each time I create a piece like this, it feels like I’m adding another layer to my creative journey — learning, refining and experimenting along the way.

I’m sure I’ll be back with more colour play very soon.

Colour INKspiration

A big Congratulations are in order… it’s Colour INKspiration milestone 200^th challenge today. We started back in 2017, and I am honoured to be one of the remaining founding members, still on the crew today. It’s such a special occasion so the Challenge palette is wide open… it’s a case of showcasing your favourite colour!

For me… how can I go past Red.

Real Red was the first colour ink pad I purchased and I was super excited. I’ve had many favourites over the years… I think Pear Pizzazz was the first shade of green I actually liked – never been much of green girl. Then Coastal Cabana landed…. and oh wow! That colour has run a close second ever since. Lucky for me Real Red and Coastal Cabana go well together!!

Today, I decided to get back to my artistic roots and just create a little piece of art I loved… I went with the drama of black and red with a touch of gold – an Alice in Wonderland inspired Christmas card.

Truth be known… I have been inspired by Christmas displays seen on my recent trip to the US. For this card, I just pulled out some of my favourite toys to play with – not caring if they were current or retired.

I started by creating the bauble… Gold embossed on Black cardstock and cut a centre of white cardstock – which I decorated with some stencils and red and black ink. I fussy cut the shape to fit.

Then I set about creating the background – I had a slight idea of what I wanted to create… but no real plan, no real idea how it was going to go. This is all part of just playing when it comes to free flowing art.

I smashed my black ink pad over the stencil, dabbing and swiping until my heart was content. I didn’t want solid colour, just a scratchy look. Then I layered red ink over opposite corners, using a sponge dauber, with another stencil.

I added a few drops of water, swished the cardstock around, making the water move to smudge the ink. Absorbed the excess with paper towel and once dry, dressed the edges to create a vintage look. It was just fun to play today and I plan to do more of these in the new year… just play and post, celebrating art and creativity.

Velvet cardstock Christmas cards

As I work to reinvigorate my YouTube channel, I hope you find the new projects shared there fun to make and full of crafting tips to inspire your creating time.

This 30-minute video features a project that is all about creating a modern fun Christmas card that uses negative space from die cutting. It’s a great way to make the most of your cardstock. This simple idea can be adapted to other occasions too. For this card, you’ll need four strips of cardstock in one colour but vary in shade to create an ombre effect. But the star of the show is the new All Seasons Velvet Specialty paper. It adds a wonderful textural feel to the card.

Tree card:

Green strips: Velvet cardstock – 20mm x 105mm. Garden Green card stock – 20mm x 105mm. Granny Apple Green Two Tone cardstock – 2 strips at 10mm x 105mm.
Scrap Red velvet cardstock for the star at the top of the tree.

Bauble card:

Red velvet card stock: 78mm x 100mm
Basic White card stock: 83mm x 25mm
Green velvet card stock: Strip 20mm high. Die cut this before cutting the length, as shown in the video.

Colour INKspiration

The Layers of Beauty bundle really is a tried-and-true favourite, isn’t it? It’s one of those “go-to” sets that never lets you down — the coordination between the stamps, dies, and stencils works beautifully in any colour combo. Case in point: this week’s Colour INKspiration challenge featuring Misty Moonlight, Night of Navy, and Crumb Cake.

If roses came in these dreamy shades of blue, I’d absolutely have them in my garden! I skipped the main outline stamp this time and went straight to the five layering stencils, giving the florals a lovely soft watercolour-y style. For the first two stencils (which form the base of the flowers), I used a blending brush with Misty Moonlight ink — layering the same colour gives such lovely depth. I then added Night of Navy to bring out the shadows and detail.

For the surrounding leaves, I used Crumb Cake ink with the remaining stencils, then die-cut the whole arrangement with the coordinating die. To frame the design, I chose one of the larger arches from the Everyday Arches die set. Before adhering, I inked just the leafy edges of the large outline stamp from the Layers of Beauty stamp set, in Crumb Cake and stamped them onto a matching Crumb Cake arch die-cut — a subtle detail that ties everything together.

Next, I lightly traced the arch onto the card base and blended Night of Navy ink around it for a soft glow, before attaching the arch with Dimensionals. I layered the blooms on top, added a few extra Navy die-cut leaves, and finished with a white heat-embossed sentiment. A little Linen Thread bow tucked behind the sentiment and a scattering of Iridescent Pearls were the perfect finishing touches.

It’s a classic combo that feels elegant but still has that soft, layered look I love.

Happy World Card Making Day!

If you caught my last blog post, think of this as a little Part II. (And if you missed it, you might want to peek back there next – it’s below this one.) I hinted that I had another idea brewing from the same challenge pack — and here it is!

This card came about for two reasons:

I actually created this leaf first for the card in the previous blog post and loved it — but against the busy Designer Series Paper, on that card, it felt a bit lost. It really needed a calmer background to shine.
I also couldn’t choose between the two sides of the Designer Series Paper. Both patterns were gorgeous, so I designed a way to showcase them together.

Here’s how I did it:

I die cut a window from the centre of the DSP (you could also trim a frame with your trimmer). The bolder, busier side became my frame, adhered directly to the card base.
The centre panel featured the softer design, giving my leaf plenty of breathing space to really pop.
To give that panel extra strength and a little overlap, I matted it onto Basic Beige cardstock before layering it back into the frame.

The leaf itself was pure fun. Using a blending brush, I swirled Early Espresso, Cajun Craze, and Darling Duckling inks onto a piece of Basic Beige cardstock before die cutting.

ToP TiP: when blending colours like this, keep pockets of each colour visible. Avoid over-blending into one muddy tone — that way, each hue stands out on the finished die cut, giving the leaf a realistic, autumnal look.

I finished with a simple sentiment banner and a sprinkling of those dramatic Streaky Dots. And there you have it — a card that shows off both sides of the paper and lets that colourful leaf take centre stage.
