Snowflake challenge 2019: day 2
Jan. 15th, 2019 07:57 pmDay 2: Rec at least three fanworks that you didn’t create.
I've been re-reading a lot on and off this year, a lot of old favorites which have nostalgia added to their charms. (Also, how much do I love the 'share' button on ao3 that lets me copy-paste this code? SO MUCH.) I mentioned Chicago's most wanted, Written by the victors, and Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose last year - I've read them all again this year, but here's some more.
Nostalgia first:
String Theory: A Concerto for Violin in D Minor (11518 words) by Toft
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Rodney McKay/John Sheppard
Characters: Rodney McKay, John Sheppard, Elizabeth Weir, Teyla Emmagan, Radek Zelenka
Additional Tags: Mental Breakdown, Agoraphobia, Alternate Universe, Music, Musicians, Father-Son Relationship
Summary:
Stargate Atlantis is a fandom I fell into while in Japan, very far from home and sleeping very badly. And a bunch of people were writing wonderful fic for it. This one gives me Many Feelings and also makes me want to practice playing flute.
THEN for something NEW, my yuletide gift, which is GLORIOUS:
The Education of a Cavalier (3666 words) by Akallabeth
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Goblin Emperor - Katherine Addison
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Csethiro Ceredin
Additional Tags: Canon Backstory, Fencing, Dancing
Summary:
I love the Goblin Emperor so much and this is an awesome glimpse of young Csethiro~
hood & glove (12473 words) by Fahye, hawberries
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Yuri!!! on Ice (Anime)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Otabek Altin/Yuri Plisetsky, Katsuki Yuuri/Victor Nikiforov
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Fairy Tale, Illustrations
Summary:
Yuri on ice! I need to rewatch canon again because I love it, but this fic I also love, and the artwork is WONDERFUL.

Additional Tags: Canon Backstory, Fencing, Dancing
Summary:
Csethiro Ceredin was independent-minded from a very young age.
And she has a few problems with her governesses' curriculum.
I love the Goblin Emperor so much and this is an awesome glimpse of young Csethiro~

Relationships: Otabek Altin/Yuri Plisetsky, Katsuki Yuuri/Victor Nikiforov
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Fairy Tale, Illustrations
Summary:
"I don't mess with the fae," Otabek says.
"I'm not asking you to mess with them," JJ flat-out lies.
Yuri on ice! I need to rewatch canon again because I love it, but this fic I also love, and the artwork is WONDERFUL.
Fan-flashworks bingo card
Jan. 15th, 2019 07:46 pm( Bingo card under the cut )
Fills:
Voice: pre-Clef/Ferio rock!au
(I'm doing yesterday's question because a) why not? b) today's question involves food and I have food issues and am having unrelated anxiety so I'm just going to - ignore that one.)
questionoftheday asks: What is the oldest piece of technology that you've held onto for all these years?
My answer:
......Well, I have a 1995 toshiba laptop still (she was my mother's work laptop, then they let people buy their work laptops for home use when they rolled out new laptops so it was - docked with a screen and keyboard - the family computer for years. And then when the family got a desktop a couple of years later, I got her as my first laptop~)
She's got her date set to sometime in the 80s because y2k bug, and she was probably 6 years old when she became 'mine' and has a small set of borked pixels in the screen but I still love her~
I don't think I have anything complicated enough to count as 'technology' that's older than that? I still have my gameboy pocket (yellow!) somewhere which was technically 'mine' before Tosh was, but is from, I think, 97. I saved to buy an original gameboy and by the time I had the money, I could only get a pocket, I remember being sad about that. Bought it in Blackpool while there for the ballroom dance competition that year. (I also still have my gameboy colour, and my advance, and my DS - which is still my main gaming console and my main Japanese dictionary. I never upgraded it because the regional locking on the later games is a pain - my later games are half Japanese half English, my Japanese isn't good enough to do complex RPGs in that language but half the quirky nonsense from Japan doesn't tend to get a UK release - or at least didn't the last time I was flush enough to buy a game!)
AH, wait, TECHNICALLY these are both beaten! I have a Rayearth limited edition Sega Game Gear from 1994 - which I ebayed while I was at Uni and have the grand total of 1 game (shockingly, the Rayearth one) for. (My wife also has a game gear, and games, and some older tech - but she brought it all to the marriage and I'm not sure what all there is so I wasn't counting that XD.) I tend to forget the game gear because I never really had it as a plaything, more a collectors item that I do sometimes play? (It eats batteries like no one's business.)

Trope bingo card round 11
Jul. 4th, 2018 02:06 pmALL COMPLETED! I got a blackout!
Details of fics under the cut (with links again, I like seeing the table full but it's not precisely easy to put what the fic ARE in it, and some of these fic are not like the other. ...They're all Rayearth though).

Some kind of writing goals or something
Feb. 12th, 2018 07:04 pmSo, following in
milieva's footsteps I figure I'll do a bit of a 'these are my writing goals for 2018' for a bit of public accountability, but also to have a place that I can come to cross things off when I've done them~
However, this is not in any way going to be a comprehensive list of 'things I am writing' because there are so many things, y'all, SO MANY. Mostly these will be more recent things, or at least more recently updated, but, you know, maybe not.
Anyway. In no particular order apart from the first:
ONE. What are we doingtonight this year, Down? Why, the same thing we do every year! Trying to finish Protecting You! ( Rambling about the status of PY behind the cut )
TWO: Finish at least one Umi/Clef/Ascot fic, either Trigonometry or The Orchestra AU Currently Known As Acciaccatura
THREE: Try to keep up with
fan_flashworks challenges (that's three a month, but I'm going to try to do art for some of them, so not necessarily three fic a month?)
~so far, so good, I've managed every challenge so far this year, though by the skin of my teeth at least once...
~Still up to date at the end of march/beginning of April. (Still posting with roughly half a second to go...)
~Failed and missed one in the summer and sulked for a couple more challenges but I am back on the horse?
FOUR: Get the beginning of the medieval!au in order (and finish writing it!) so it can go up on ao3. Also so I can move on with working out some of the plot!
FIVE: get a bingo on my
trope_bingo card.
~1 and 3/4s of 5 fic done!
~2 posted, another written, 2 to go~
~COMPLETED
FIVE THE SECOND: I may then have decided to get a full blackout bingo on my next trope bingo card. I DID IT. That was... probably a bad idea and how Mils put up with me that last few days I don't know (I only got it because she typed in SO MUCH of my indecipherable writing). <3
SIX: EITHER get the start of the mecha!au in order, OR! get the next bit of Untie the Knot in order.
SEVEN: .........Write that fic I owe Mils for Christmas
~DONE - finished Cracked Skies, whoop!
EIGHT: Keep up with the
magicknightrayearth challenges.
~Managed the first two!
NINE: Post something Clef/Ferio. It doesn't matter which thing. Rock!au being postable would be great, but it's more likely to be the crack where they have a kid together, lets be honest here, I am leaning towards crack so hard. Although recently I've been playing with the post-OVA thing so hey might be that one.
TEN: and for a bonus, if I could finish and post the office!AU that would be nice~! (...I will trade meet the parents or the publishing!au for this if either of them get done.)
Bonus that wasn't planned for: I DID NANO AND I WON and I have a large part (not quite all) of an original queer ladies romance novel, heh.

Snowflake challenge
Jan. 2nd, 2018 08:46 pmDay one challenge - In your own space, talk about why you're participating in Snowflake and, if you’ve participated in the past, how the challenge has affected you. What drew you to it? What did you take away from it? What do you hope to accomplish this year?
I've never taken part in the snowflake challenge before, I've seen it but never investigated. This year, though, I feel like something positive to start the year off is a good idea!
Also, it might give me the incentive to use my dw more, which I would like to do, because I like it here XD.

Protecting You, Chapter One
Jan. 29th, 2006 02:34 pmWell, I'm (finally) getting this up on lj as well as ffn... I use too many italics. >_< Though this has let me spot a few errors in my format I didn't catch for the ffn version...
Author: Dragon of Winter Nights (Down)
Series: Magic Knight Rayearth
Summary: (from ffn, cos I'm just lazy today...)Clef’s life is in danger, and Umi finds herself being pulled into a world full of intrigues, politics and assassins as she tries to help him stay alive.
Pairings: Clemi, some FF and ELH

Mar. 11th, 2005 10:39 pmHmm.
I'm trying this out here, so I don't screw up posting on a comm or anything. Rayearth fic, Clef centric, implied C/U, c.850 words. pg. (I set myself a 500 word limit, and this is what I got. Meh.)
( Forgotten )
...did it work?
Edit: Third time, it did. *vaugly embarrased*
