How the Religious Right Censor Morally Objectionable Content to Target Queer and Adult Media
The Gentrification of Video Game History is an article about gaming history being USA-centric as hell. (It's also male-centric, but I do have to wonder if games popular among women have a thread connecting them historically like the ones men know and love do... Besides The Sims, because that's part of the same series as SimCity, which is generally respected? Maybe I'd know more if people wrote about them.)
66RPG: The Fan Fiction UGC Platform, and The Place for Social Commentaries of Modern China
"Fuckkkk Chris I really need to read about female Chinese indie game devs" I got you 🤝 I'm really glad to have learned about Chinese itch.io, I hope I can check it out some day after gaining some proficiency in Chinese.
You know the video is good when even I, known video essay hater, am sharing it on my blog.
Slipping Away from the Pages of History: Taking a look at Celio, Wyler, and Sabre - This article about cut characters from the first Fire Emblem would be of interest to those who like cut content and gaming history, but I imagine to everyone else it's like "um, okay?" Well, I'm glad I read it :]
Crosscountry BC - Write-up about a very local Canadian trucking sim. Neat, right?
Fake Portal is an ad-free site made to showcase indie games. Give indie creators some love <3

We can’t have an honest conversation about the great games we’re “supposed” to know and love if we don’t have an accurate idea of the average to compare them to. We can’t give the classics an authentic appraisal if we can’t actually see how they do things differently from the more ordinary examples they sat next to on shop shelves, or we end up assuming that creating an engaging 16-bit RPG must be easy because everything we collectively choose to revisit and elevate from that era managed it.

How the Religious Right Censor Morally Objectionable Content to Target Queer and Adult Media
But the playbook is practically the same: choose a game that is deeply morally objectionable and that very few people will defend in public, and stir up controversy over it. Soon, businesses that fear they might not comply with the rules will follow suit. Many well-intentioned people would then create petitions and organize movements against the game, which would create a chilling effect for future companies.
This is all a religious crusade from the very beginning, and I think many people played into it without realizing it.

As many “Doujin” fandom circles go, a majority of the content creators and consumers on 66RPG are women and use the site as a tool to express their romantic fantasies and desires. Heavily focused on extravagant subjects such as imperial harems, slash fiction, male pregnancy, and other themes that would normally be shunned for going against traditional conservative Chinese values.

The gentrification article is really good. Interesting cultural things to learn, and absolutely absolutely always and forever about 'real games'.
Orange Light/ 66RPG would be incredibly important even solely as a fangirl's pyjama party, all the love for fangirl pyjama parties, may we rule the world.
