Does anyone know if there's a secret third cover by a Japanese group to complete the trifecta? And if they're all covering some overseas song that I haven't heard before but will stumble into a few months or years down the line (100000 such cases)?

*May 29th edit because I entirely forgot to mention: I did learn, however, that the opening sample is from You Don't Love Me (No No No) by Dawn Penn.
...
I felt suspicious that that too was a sample, so I looked into it. That Dawn Penn song's opening is actually sampling Wake the Town by U-Roy, so who knows which one those later songs were using as a reference.*

I've never seen the MVs for either of these songs until now... It's interesting seeing how the choreography differs from the one I made up in my head 📄✍🏾

Not sure I have an answer to either question, but I listened to both songs and they're incredibly Ace of Base vibes. In fact, the first one is on the same key and possibly the same BPM as The Sign (https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3Diqu132vTl5Y&ved=2ahUKEwj6xtSyydSUAxUU5QIHHa-iC8IQ78AJegQIIxAB&usg=AOvVaw3IL-Od7iqBQ1lYzZU3l0-U sorry for the link, I'm bad with html), which is the first Western song it made me think of! Wouldn't be surprised if that was the style these groups were inspired by.

Also the similarity adjacently reminded me of how this song by T-ARA https://open.spotify.com/track/37srMwfKz7zltwXVnUqSMl?si=da4b6b23367d4ed5 sounds incredibly similar to If You Seek Amy by Britney Spears

Okay I don't remember which Shinee song that was exactly, but I do remember going through the Tumblr tags of a bunch of Shinee songs to gauge reactions and one tag was "Me when I listen to Ne-Yo once", lmfao. And I do hear a bit of a similarity between Freakum Dress and favorite, though I do get how it wouldn't register immediately because the styles are still very different, imo.

And yeah, probably is a pop style thing of the era! I wonder what the trend then was, it sounds vaguely reggae but not.
