A Very Tasty World, Mister Cornelius...

I was just looking out a couple of figures for a game and found one I'd forgotten - a 1986-ish Citadel model of Michael Moorcock's Jerry Cornelius in their short-lived Eternal Champions series. A bit old and battered, and I'm amazed at the amount of trouble I want to with the patterns on the trousers etc. Don't seem to own any of the others, but I was a much bigger fan of Cornelius than the fantasy characters in this range.

Nice, I'm jealous.
Citadel did produce some lovely figures back then, I wish I'd had the wherewithal to buy more of them. And that they didn't look so small next to the modern oversized ones!

It is a good height - 28mm I think. Just put it next to the Wallace and Grommet rocket ship and a small model TARDIS and it looks about right for both, I shall have to bear that in mind for future silly adventures...

I never did like Moorcock's oeuvre. I read most of the Eternal Champions series because all my fellow SFF nerds were, but he seemed to have an issue with ending a story satisfactorily. As for Jerry Cornelius, all I can say is that I think Moorcock was doing a lot of fun drugs at the time. Well, there was the heavy-handed satire of the Vietnam war in there, too. (If I could figure it out in my young and stupid years, it was heavy-handed).

I'm not saying that I liked all of them, but The Final Programme was fun and perfectly of its time, and there were some excellent short stories by Moorcock, Spinrad and other in the anthology The Nature of the Catastrophe (enlarged as The New Nature of the Catastrophe.) I think the character actually works best in the shorter formats, but tastes differ.
