Additions to the War Cabinet

A few more additions.

 Another German Warlord from err, Warlord Games

 Romans from Blacktree Miniatures.

 4 x units at this stage (120mm wide x 60mm) . I might add another half base to each to widen them.
I used the same size basing as my ancient German because of the chunky figures so now I'm thinking of placing the Germans on deeper bases to represent 'deep' units for "To The Strongest"

BUT!!! I hate re-basing...

Ancient German Command

 A command pack from Warlord Games. The Germans have attached commanders in "To the Strongest" rules and I had seen something similar to this elsewhere (brains fading), and thought it was a good way to represent it. 

 My CinC is mounted on a round base to differentiate between himself and the sub-commanders.

 The base was just a mdf beer coaster I picked up from a hardware store and sliced in half. Cheers.

Ancient German warband No5

Another warband finished and a wee bit of rebasing.

 After much deliberation I've settled  on my basing sizes. (Is this where I place my disclaimer)  Cavalry will now be on 120mm x 80mm and the warbands on 120mm x 60 and 60mm x 60mm.

This allows for any changes in grid sizes when using the "To the Strongest" rule set.

The cav was a pain to remove and rebase but achieved it without damaging the figures.

 Thinking maybe I should have made the warband bases slightly deeper as I'm currently painting a few Romans, as a break from the Germans, and the figures are from Black Tree Miniatures which are quite large. As a result they look great on a 60mm depth base which is the same as the Germans.

Maybe I'll just combine two warbands to give the impression of depth, Bugger, I'll have the purchase more figures.

Anyway, this is the completed Ancient German hoard so far. Will have to get them to the club sometime for a game and maybe combine with another German tribe for the evening.

Lacking a few lights sub-generals at this stage.

Another Ancient German warbands

And still they came..........

Warband number four......slowly, slowly will get there eventually.  Mainly foundry figures based for Simon Millers "To the Strongest" rules.

Ancient German warbands

Spring is here, so unfortunately less painting and more enjoying cold beer and great food in the sunshine. 

Below are two units of ancient German fanatics. Figures are predominately Black Tree Miniatures with a few Foundry ones thrown in. I've used the majority of my naked and semi-naked figures for these units to give them more of a wild look.

The banners are actually orc banners from puppetswar.eu. I thought they looked the part being nice and furry like the bits of the clothing the warriors are wearing. 

I've also given most of the figures wicker shields to make them semi-uniform and stand apart from the other German warbands. I have one other warband finished, so only 9 to go!!! So much for the winter project......mmmmm............maybe a spring project instead.

On & Off the paint table

Finally got my arse back into gear and started to prepare the next lot of ancient Germans that I NEED to paint. These figures are all 'Black Tree Miniatures' I purchased a year or so ago.

After watching http://caliban-somewhen.blogspot.com.au/  roll out his Germans and http://wabcorner.blogspot.com.au/ punch out his 'War of the Roses" figures I thought I had better get moving. 

Although I have been getting side-tracked lately, (don't we all), and decided to put a few green skins to the brush.

 I was only going to do ten but a few more have crept onto the desk.

 Friday night was a fantastic 'War of the Roses' game using Andrew's figures. Again we moved the figures around utilising  Simon Miller's great rule set - "To the Strongest"

160pts armies and the game took about 3hrs with 2 players aside - although we did stop for a food break.

I did intend to take a few more photos, but got wrapped up in the game.

Thanks once again Andrew for the use of the miniatures, hope you had a good time .

Finished items.

Finished the French chateau that I started months ago (with the help from my son) and used it straight away in a couple of games of Bolt Action (which he smashed me in). Unfortunately I forgot to take some photos of the game. 

 It comes apart allowing figure placement in the different floors which is useful when playing Bolt Action.

 This is my command base for my ancient Germans. These are Wargames Foundry figures. I've nearly completed a cavalry unit but WW2 figures have taken over recently. I forgot to photo the squad of Russians  I just completed.

 And this lot I picked up on E-Bay. I intend to rebase them but dont know when that will happen.

First German Warband

One down, lots to go. All figures are foundry I believe, Based on 60mm x 60mm bases.

I may have got a wee bit carried away with the floral arrangements, might have to add a few more casualties or logs in the next lot.

I will probably stick with this 3 layer flesh for the foundry figures but I have bag loads of Black Tree minis so may change to using washes for bulk results.

 Anyone have any suggestions for figures to represent commanders and heroes?
