You will develop highly sought-after digital skills, expand your professional network across Europe’s HPC ecosystem, and gain the practical expertise needed to accelerate your career in research, industry or digital innovation.
HPCTRAIN enables organisations to host talented, highly motivated trainees with emerging expertise in high-performance computing, AI and data-intensive technologies.
HPCTRAIN is designed as a strategic European response to the growing demand for high-performance computing (HPC) expertise across research, industry and the wider digital technology supply chain. Building on the experience of leading supercomputing centres, training networks and previous mobility programmes such as PRACE Summer of HPC and HPC-Europa, the project brings together complementary expertise to establish a sustainable, high-quality professional traineeship framework at European scale.
The programme sits alongside major European training initiatives such as EUMaster4HPC and the National Competence Centres, strengthening the overall HPC skills ecosystem while providing a distinct pathway focused on professional, on-the-job experience.
By combining academic excellence, operational supercomputing environments and industrial engagement, HPCTRAIN supports the development of young specialists capable of contributing directly to Europe’s digital transformation.
A key distinguishing feature of HPCTRAIN is its strong industry dimension. Through its Industrial Advisory Board and a structured second phase of placements hosted beyond the consortium, the project ensures meaningful involvement of companies across the HPC landscape.
This approach reinforces the European digital technology supply chain by aligning skills development with real labour market needs. With a target of 200 traineeships over four years, HPCTRAIN will not only deliver work placements but will support mobility and strengthen employability, contributing to a resilient and competitive European HPC workforce.
