surprising revelations

(Maelen)
She silently watched Síol depart and raised an eyebrow, before turning to her friend. She'd never seen Siol act so....what was the word?....uptight? No....defensive. That was a better choice of wording. "All right, Lis....what's going on between you two? And don't tell me there's not. I know my cousin well enough to know he doesn't just act like that out of nowhere." One midnight blue brow rose in curiosity.
(Lis)
And there it was. Siol had yet again gone. To be honest, she'd expected him to leave Ireland the moment she took her turn, now not only had she made him go a-running not once but twice. Something stung inside her, there was a vice of loss twisting tighter onto her shoulders and she was close to tears but that'd come later. Even her moon-lusted friend had only seen her cry a few times.
Biting her lower lip, swirling amethyst eyes never shifting from Maelen's peridotted ones, Calistra caught the Gealach's hands in her own petite ones and held them to her. To where the flame inside her was strongest. Surely the leader of a house devoted to children would see....
(Maelen)
She nearly stumbled forward when Calistra grabbed her hands. Then she felt the flare against her hands -- almost dreamy-like -- and blinked, turning her senses inward. Was it? But she could sense the momentary image of a wolf cub with moonlit fur. She blinked again. "You're -- when, Lis?? And Siol...." She jerked her head towards the doorway automatically. But of course Siol was already gone.
(Lis)
Calistra let a smirk play on her lips. It was a sad smile with little humour behind it but the strain of having her friend staring for the love she had caused so much pain to was making everything seem slightly ironic and smiling was the only way she could deal with it all. "When what?" She released Mae's hands, walking towards a graying window with eyes twinkling with dew-like tears. "When did this one find itself a temporary home or...." Lasánta. She'd have to tell Lasánta now.
(Maelen)
She shook her head slightly to clear the fog and immediately trailed after Calistra. For the longest time, she stood behind the other glitta. Then finally, she lifted a slim hand to touch the DiVulp's violet hair. "When -- did you and Siol -- become anam-céile to one another?"
(Lis)
"We're not...we didn't...." Calistra was lost for words. The idea of a soulmate -- traditional soulmate -- the way Mae and Aleck were to another was something she had never really thought about. Someone you were meant to be with, born to keep each other company for the rest of your existence. It was all rather dramatic and cliched for her mind. Clearly her and Siol were never meant for each other. Glitta wouldn't play such cruel games on them, had they been. The vixen wished for rain absently as she turned her head to peer over her shoulder. "We had our love a long time ago. Before I joined the court. Before Lasánta." Wasn't really surprising when you thought about it. The lavender that made Siol so feral was streaked through their daughter's. Opening her mouth as if to say something else, she sighed sharply and turned back to the window. "It's over now."
(Maelen)
She stared at Calistra's reflection in the window and belatedly remembered to close her mouth. How long had Siol been keeping this from her?? ^No, it's not over, Lis....not until I talk to my stubborn cousin.^ "Then Lasá is....Siol's?" Glitta, did she ever feel stupid for not realizing the wild child was her own niece/cousin.
(Lis)
A nod. Somehow the vice had been loosened a little. For a while. "She doesn't know. I told her he was watching her but she never really seemed that interested." Unlike some kids living with single parents, Lasánta was surrounded by fatherly figures. Anubis, Daibheid, Rain. Calistra guessed she thought it was Anubis. A chill went through her as she remembered the time she came close to having Anubis' child and the worry within her shifted. "Moon," it was a shuddered plea. Although her voice became childlike she knew all her years glimmered in her eyes, whether Mae could see or not. "I was young when I had Lasa. It feels new." She meant to say terrifying but it wouldn't make for charming bedtime stories when the child grew.
(Maelen)
"This will work out somehow, Lis." ^I'll make it work.^ Her eyes narrowed, staring at the scenery outside the window, and not really seeing it. "You should have said something....about Lasá, I mean. I wouldn't have rejected you for it."
(Lis)
"I know." Sucking in a breath through her teeth, she turned gently to face the Gealach. How many times had she felt doubt about her maternal instincts? Was there a second before Niki and Jer saw sunlight that she questioned her abilities? "But I was so young and as Lasá grew it just seemed....unimportant." There was a pause. The music room wasn't singing to her. The sounds of wolves making their way towards her wasn't making her heart buzz in anticipation. Everything that made her who she was seemed to have gone out the window at that moment. Wiping at her face with the back of her sleeve before a tear could grace her cheek, she grinned. It was still sad of course but wasn't forced. It was something at least. "She knows you're family, Mae. She doesn't need facts to feel it."
(Maelen)
"Still...." She shook her head and sighed. The fact that Lasá didn't even know Siol was her father didn't sit right with her. Despite her constant clashing with Alecksei over the millennia, the twins and Breinn knew him -- and he made himself part of their lives. Then again, Siol had always been reclusive. She shook her head again. "How do you stand the separation, Lis?"
(Lis)
She had wanted to say she didn't have a lot of choice in the matter but, to be truthful, that was a lie. Had she wanted Siol to love her so much he'd rather die than be out of her sight for a second she could but that wouldn't be real. "I have my daughter." As she said this, Calistra manouevered to sit in front of the grand piano, hitting a random high key. "All the best parts of Siol in one fat-free flavour." Then seriously; "It's never been an easy situation. Maybe it's better for us if we're not.." this time she hit a higher note.
"I'm expecting the pack soon." she said absently, her voice becoming slightly happier as she changed the subject. "Or 'some' of them." Lis curled her lip in a mock-bitter sneer. At least she knew Caolán was coming. It had been a while since she'd seen him but his mild, non-intrusive nature had always soothed her. "Help me look presentable?" The Di Vulp forced out her lower lip in a childlike pout. Cue puppy dog eyes. Calistra knew she didn't /need/ help looking presentable - it was already in her. Part of what made her who she was - but she didn't want to have to go in that room alone again. The scent of him could still cloud her mind.
(Maelen)
She raised an eyebrow curiously. "All right -- are we going anywhere after that? If you want to be gone for a long time, I can't stay long with you or Aleck will have my head. He thinks that Jerdahn's hold on the human won't be enough to keep him from drawing trouble--at least that's the feeling I get from him. Then again, I don't think he wants to admit Remy is infatuated with his little girl." She sighed but smiled.
(Lis)
"Not unless you have the urge to do some serious howling, wag a tail and play poker with the other pooches." The lopsided smirk graced her face as she arched an eyebrow. "Although I do recommend giving Aleck the 10 sure fired tips to dealing with his daughter's womanhood. The girl can take care of herself." Jer had reminded her of Lasa in many ways. Both had a rather fierce nature to them that Lis had to admire. Even though she had a lot of respect for Aleck, the overprotective father in him had never been her favourite side. "Is she infatuated with him?" she asked, changing the subject in case Mae took offence.
(Maelen)
She shrugged faintly. "Hard to say. Though I have a feeling it will happen -- unless his infatuation with her annoys her so thoroughly she sends him back to Louisiana. But I don't see that happening yet."
(Lis)
"Jer took a lot of risks bringing the kid here." Then, pulling herself from the piano in ending of the conversation she slapped at her jeans and flashed her friend a feral grin. "Now c'mon, I've got guests arriving," or already here. Calistra sent Eva, a girl she hadn't seen since she was a child, a quick image of her quarters with the telepathic equal to a motherly hug. It was the way she welcomed every DiVulp. "....and I must look pretty and witty and gay." With that, she linked an arm through Mae's and started heading towards her room.
(Maelen)
She shook her head mentally as Lis led her out of the music room. They were halfway to the stairs when Maelen spotted her son -- carrying a girl in his arms. She caught the mental image of a tarnished vixen -- before she remembered the girl's name. Paege. Ailil. She was surprised, remembering the bitter fight Nikolai had had with the girl after she'd chosen Ailil as her House. Curious, she stopped Lis and approached the couple. "Nikolai, what's going on? Has something happened to your -- friend?" She wasn't too sure it was the right choice of word, but why else would Niki be carrying her around? She either had to be injured or they had reconciled--but from the look of pain the girl was trying to mask, it was the former.
