Today the first of the last three episodes of 9-1-1 Lone Star will air and I don't know how to feel about it.
To be fair, outside of reading recaps, I'm still not caught up with actually watching the current season. Outside of that, I get my spoilers from Ronen Rubinstein and Rafael Silva as I follow them on Instagram. Not sure if I follow any other related accounts. So, this is a mess in my head based on all of that. The rest goes behind the cut because SPOILERS.
Where do I even start? Judd? The asteroid? TK and Carlos? Tommy?
I'm kind of neutral about Tommy. On one side, it does bring focus to the importance of regular check ups and seems to be handled with care. Apparently, they're working with a group doing a lot of work surrounding cancer (raising awareness and supporting people I think). A group they seem to have worked with in regards to Owen's cancer at the beginning of the show. It contains the opportunity to look deeper in the role Tommy took in both Nancy and TK's life as well as giving Nancy the chance to shine in a leadership position. On the other side, Tommy's been through the wringer with first losing her husband and then how that whole thing with Trevor ended. Not to mention, her daughters potentially becoming orphans.
Which kind of brings me to Judd developing a drinking problem in Grace's absence. Although, I'm not sure if that wouldn't have happened with Grace there. Judd did go through a lot - from losing his whole crew and the trauma associated with that to all the new traumas the new crew has gone threw. The whole Wyatt story line from finding out he's got a (near) adult son to the accident. I can see how it can take a toll and TK doesn't have a monopoly on addiction. Reading about it feels very uncomfortable. Maybe it's because I'm upset about Grace's absence and how they dealt with it. It also seems odd that Owen is the one handling it. Not that Owen would be a bad choice - he's got experience from being part of TK's journey and might have had experience with other firefighters. I'm sure there were a lot of traumatized firefighters post 9/11 on top of the usual stressors working as a firefighter has.
Maybe I'd like to see TK take more note of it - from noticing the issue in others to offering the view of someone who's been there. Then again, TK has a lot on his plate between trying to support Carlos in his grief, trying to keep their marriage together and the whole thing with Jonah and Enzo. And maybe I'm too pessimistic about him not playing a role.
Speaking of TK and Jonah. I'm not very confident in that story line. I mean, I love the thought of TK and Carlos adopting Jonah. I hope it happensunless Enzo suddenly doesn't face jail, but the pictures they've posted are kind of weird. Apparently they set up a "bedroom" in the loft. Which is more or less only divided by shelves from the rest of the living spaces. In the picture someone else is there and I'm not sure if that's an adoption lawyer or someone from CPS checking if their place is suitable for taking in Jonah. I'm not sure if that "bedroom" should or even would pass inspection. Granted, Jonah is TK's half-brother and not some random kid they're fostering or trying to adopt. I can imagine rules not being as strict - especially if Enzo as the father agrees to it.
Unless I associated it wrong in my memories, I saw a spoiler that one of them had to make a tough decision. I remember thinking that it might be TK quitting his job to take care of Jonah. I don't think it would be Carlos considering how much I saw Ronen Rubinstein rooting for a spin-off with Carlos and Sam as Texas Rangers (which is part of why I'd always leaned more on Chief Bridges being involved in Gabriel's death out of the known Rangers and it ended up being the case). Still, I could see Carlos going that route to be a different kind of father than his own. On the other hand, with the way they set up Jonah's potential bedroom and thinking about it now while I'm writing - maybe the choice is not to take in Jonah. I'd really prefer one of them quitting over that decision though.
Speaking of quitting - what the fuck is up with the end of the world asteroid? All the trailers and spoilers and everything going from bad to worse: I feel as if they're intentionally blowing up everything like a "screw you for not cancelling us" and "if we're ending, we might as well take everyone with us". Going just by the spoilers, I almost feel as if the show is trying to jump the shark. In an all around arc kind of way: The show started with all of them being gathered together to rebuild the 126 and now that the show's over, let us all split them up again.
Maybe I'm too pessimistic. I might be over my cold, but being sick tends to make me view all kind of things in a far more negative light. Not really in an end of the world kind of way, but more like an apathetic "Okay, they're going there" kind of way. Either that or things I'd like to read but will never write.
Like wanting to see a story where TK and Andrea bond over Family Feud and they end up being contestants with TK, Andrea, Ana and Luisa being very enthusiastic about being on there while Carlos is his usual calm self.I've definitely fallen into the rabbit hole of watching too much of that show on YouTube. Mind you, I'm all for Andrea and TK bonding fics. I've got half an idea of them meeting each other in a thrift shop and becoming partners in crime only without realizing that they have Carlos in common. I can just imagine the conversation between TK and Carlos as TK confesses just who his thrifting pal is.
