Well. I got tumblr and I think I forgot DW and LJ existed, except to check friends' page. Woops. Would like to say I'll try and be better, but I've said that before. But you never know. Maybe.

Stupid Tommy Conlon invades my head once again. I'd be annoyed, but for the fact that I haven't written this much in longer than I care to admit out loud. I think soon he's going to tell me how he got from Afghanistan to Mexico and then back to Pittsburgh, but for now just what might have happened in the months after the fight.

Lionsgate has released scripts in advance of award season. Which means there goes my day to 'Warrior'. Again. I'd feel this was becoming a problem. But I find I can't care. More Tommy Conlon is always better.
intransit: (tommy conlon times 4)
Someone seriously needs to take 'Warrior' away from me. Stupid Tommy Conlon and all the stupid feelings he makes me have. Like how no one will ever convince me he didn't have a death wish and the only reason he wasn't dead yet was that he made a promise to Manny that he would take care of Manny's family. Which is also why we don't see him talk to Pilar until *after* he knows he's going to SPARTA.

Because then he knows, *he knows*, he can win even if it kills him (which he's pretty sure it will and he's okay with that) as long as the winnings go to Pilar and the kids. And then Tommy will have kept his promise to Manny.

He even makes sure all the paperwork and insurance stuff for the tournament names Pilar and the kids as his benificiaries and he doesn't tell Paddy because it's none of Paddy's fucking business what he does with the goddamned money.

But then he sees Brendan across the lobby for the first time in 16 years and that sets off a whole other wave of rage and spite and resentment and Tommy goes into the first match riding that wave and he doesn't even remember much about the fight until he looks down and the guy is sprawled out on the mat and the crowd is so loud Tommy can't hear the thoughts in his head for the first time in weeks and he thinks it will be worth it to die here in this place.

AND SEE. Tommy Conlon, I hate you I love you I hate you. STOP INVADING MY HEADSPACE. No, I'm kidding, don't ever leave me, I haven't felt like this for a character since Nikolai in 'Eastern Promises'.
intransit: (annie mitchell)
Dear self, did you seriously just write an 'Eastern Promises' ficlet? You haven't watched that movie in 2 years. Where in the hell did that come from?'

Confused,
Me

Oh, man. EP, really brain? If this is any kind of sign of the things you're going to come up with while attempting to make a successful go of GYWO this year, I am mildly terrified of what else will come out of you.

That said, holy crap I wrote something. Something that resembles actual fic that people could read and understand. Okay, yes, only day one. But that's terrifying. I haven't done that properly in ages.

After telling myself I'd be more active on my journal/fandom life once I had more free time, I look and see it's been nine months since I've actually posted. Way to fail on your promises to yourself. But I'm giving myself a second chance to try again.

I'm also practicing all this week @ writing again, in an attempt to participate in gywo again, seeing as I didn't come near the goal the first year and didn't even try this year. So, I am challenging myself this week to reach the daily word limit I would need to participate, and if I do, then I'll sign up.

I'm also going to challenge myself to post to my journal at least once a week. I don't know how that'll go, but I figure it can't hurt to try, right?

'Spartacus:Sand and Blood.' OMG, it's like 'Gladiator', '300', and 'Rome' all got together one night for a raucous orgy and out came 'Spartacus' nine months later. I've only watched the first episode so far, but that was some seriously entertaining, if not mentally taxing, television right there.

Not to mention Lucy Lawless with the most amazing shade of red hair I've ever seen in my life. Definitely sticking this one out. Also have 'Carnivale' lined up, and a pile of library books that I'm mildly intimidated by. Holy crap, this free time thing is some heady shit.
intransit: (Default)
So, this is me taking advantage of the fact that I know work one job and so have this crazy thing called free time on my hand. CRAZY, I know. I'm hoping to become less the observer and more the active participant w/ my online life and fandom. *fingers crossed* We'll see how that goes. I majored in Anthropology after all. Observation is kind of beat into your brain.

Anyhow, in giving up job #2, I also gave up cable. And now I'm out of shows to watch on my WD TV. Any suggestions would be awesome. Take for granted that if it's scifi or has vampires in it (I love you, Damon Salvatore!) I may already be watching it. Thanks!

And here's to trying to be around more.

So, say you're Jepha Howard...what kinds of things might you ask of say...Bob Bryar... if he was say, on a road trip and promised to send you pictures from the road?

Purely in the interest of science. And that I may be an insane woman who's participating in [livejournal.com profile] getyourwordsout and thus perhaps feeling inspired on the Bob/Jepha front.

When you see this, post in your own journal with your favorite quote from The Princess Bride. Preferably not "As you wish" or the Inigo Montoya speech.

When I go broke from following you and your band around the tri-state area?

Well, honestly I'll have a smile on my face the whole way to the bankruptcy filing.

Bayside tonight. It was eight kinds of wonderful, even if the Mad Hatter has no concept of air conditioning at all. Ceiling fans aren't much against 200+ sweating, moshing, crowd-surfing bodies. But still so worth it. I think I love the tiny, packed venues like that better than any others. I feel closer to the music. Certainly closer to the band, especially when Anthony's mic stand kept getting kicked by the crowd surfers.

They played a new song for us, and the new album will be out in September! Whoot! Their starting out a tour with Alkaline Trio, so everyone should see them.

I came to the conclusion on my drive home that live music soothes me in way that nothing else ever has. I'm SO in the wrong line of work. :P

In conclusion, Bayside really is a cult.

So, we of Columbus, OH who missed MCR and the Black Parade last year due to rampant food poisoning? According to Gerard, we 'didn't miss much. Just some costumes and make-up. There was some prancing and dancing like this *insert Gtard strut w/ spirit fingers*. Oh, and some explosions.'

BEST EXPLANATION OF THE BLACK PARADE EVER. Gtard, in that moment, I loved you best. Then Bob flipped his Viking hair and won me over again.

And Bob wore a wicked Twisted Sister wig out to play with Billy Talent.

Then Frank high-fived Cortez when Gerard made everyone cheer for their crew. He followed it up with hip pumping at Cortez during Famous Last Words. Frank's got some fluid fucking hips. Not that we didn't know this already, but it bears repeating.

Singer of Billy Talent told us to just look at him from the dick up, as he'd just gotten new shoes and everyone told him they made him look like Blanche from the Golden Girls.

And yeah, there was music. A lot of it. And it rocked hard. Then our show let out at the exact same time as the Police show across the street. I hope the cops got hazard pay for tonight.

Count me in for more trolling. God damn, he's fuckin' beautiful.

And then an obligatory, 'Oh, Bert' )

I know I probably shouldn't, but seriously kinda love it.

Oh, tour of wacky line up, I LOVE YOU.

Seriously, tonight I had the most fun at a show that I've had in a long, long ass time. BFF loves Street Drum Corps with a kind of alarming passion, so we were at the venue on time. And they weren't bad.

Army of Me didn't do much to impress. Don't know if it was them or the sound, but I had serious problems differentiating any instrumentation at all and couldn't hear the vocals for love or money.

Straylight Run was amazing. John flailed and wailed and rocked his little heart out. And even as he talked about the Used being up next, you could hear it in his voice that he couldn't quite believe they were on the same lineup, either. But they were wonderful, and I wanted to kill all the little assholes who were talking so fucking LOUD that I thought for a bit that they might actually drowned out the band.

And then there was the USED!! They were fucking wonderful, so on. Every one of the guys looked great and were having a fuckin' blast up on stage. They played a little bit of everything, even mashing 'Buried Myself Alive' into the middle of 'All That I've Got'. I was highly amused by a trio of girls that had been brought onstage for 'Paralyzed' (with several others) who tried to 'stretch out' into Jeph's space and Jeph high-tailed it back to the drum riser while his bass tech corraled the girls back to the rest of the crowd.

Bert was just, well, Bert. Happy to be alive and playing music with his band. And throwing in sarcasm at colleges while he was at it, since this was 'technically' a college tour. If you're curious, Bert believes that colleges exist and that you can go to them and you can pay money and you can take classes.

It was really a great show. And I have no voice for work tomorrow to prove it.
