Day 30: Would you like to see a modern remake?

No.

It was a product of its time and place, and a remarkable collection of people. You *might* be able to catch lightning in a bottle twice, but you would need a cast that worked together that well, a script editor of the quality of Chris Boucher who was willing to dedicate multiple years of their life to keeping it as consistent as possible, and a producer of the quality of David Maloney, ditto. We all saw what happened when Vere Lorrimer took over, even with Chris Boucher trying to keep the ship on an even keel.

That balance between hope and evil winning would disappear. It would be tilted far more heavily in one direction or the other, depending on who was making it and what the intended market was. And CGI would be more important than decent scripts and acting.

I can think of two people I could see possibly pulling it off - JMS and RTD. And RTD would still probably make it either too cuddly or too grim.

JMS would be great! He knew Blake's 7 - he even put Orac in a list of names or words I once freeze-framed.

I never heard that - how absolutely wonderful! Was it a Babylon 5 con?

Thanks - that's so cool! I knew JMS was influenced by B7, but not The Prisoner - can't see that. (I live with a Prisoner fan.)

Let's give RTD his due -- I think he could be quite capable of somehow making it too cuddly and too grim...
