Sad News

To my readers, it’s with tremendous sadness that I am finally able to share that my beloved Rogue lost his very private battle with ALS after a four and a half year struggle. True to his training as an Army Officer, he never once complained. “It is what it is,” he’d say, pressing on. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for myself. Johnnie retired on July 1 and found out he had ALS on July 28. Everything we had planned vanished. And every cell in my body rebelled like a pirate going beserk in a bloody melee. I prayed, I cried for help, for a cure, for anything to save my husband’s life. But the cruel fact is, there isn’t a cure for ALS. Eighty-four years after Lou Gehrig’s death at 37, doctors still do not know what causes it, nor have they found a cure. Interesting, isn’t it, that 64% of those afflicted with ALS are veterans? My husband served 22.5 years in the Army. And now, our children and grandchildren and I are mourning the loss of a great man who cannot be replaced, and yet, we’re equally grateful he is no longer suffering from this dreadful disease, a disease that was grueling to watch strip him bare.

2025 has been my most challenging year. It’s been a year of loss, not only for the man I love, but for the words that refused to flow. Besides the short story I wrote, Wherefore Art Thou, Maramaduke, part of the A Duke by Any Other Name Anthology, I also lost my muse. I can’t tell you how lonely I’ve been.

Our engagement photo. Look how young we are!

Our wedding, 1982. Head over heels in love and a whole lifetime before us!

Before this Thanksgiving, I was standing with three of our children at Johnnie’s Celebration of Life Service.

So what’s next? Where does one go from here? I honestly don’t know, though I’m aware this exact scenario has played out for billions of other mourning spouses.

As for me, I’m trying to focus on the wonderful memories my husband and I made over the past 45.5 years. At least, I hope they will get me through the holidays and perhaps to a place where the muse will visit again. Until then, here’s a peek at the contagious smile that completely won me over, and still does.

Image

Love those you love, no matter how hard it is, no matter what you have to struggle through. Then love harder. I lived a fairy tale, and my wish for you this holiday season, me hearties, is to hang on tight and find something to be grateful for every moment you share with your loved ones.

Lady Vengeance: A Tale of Passion and Justice

Image

I’m so happy to announce that my Revenge of the Wallflowers book, Lady Vengeance, Book #24 of #53, is out today! This was such a fun book to write, me hearties. I’ve always wanted to write about a highwayman, so I decided to flip this trope upside down. (Highwaymen are pirates of the road, after all.) When I got my edits back, I can’t tell you how great it was that my editor said this story is quite a cracker. It’s loaded with passion, persuasion, and power.

Wallflower

Highwaywoman

What turns a lady into a wallflower bent on revenge?

In the troubled village of Kingston, Myles Rutland, Duke of Beresford, returns to confront a series of murders and a mysterious red-cloaked archer. Meanwhile, Lady Lora Putney, the woman he’s spent years trying to avoid, seeks vengeance for her brother’s death, leading to a clash of justice and unresolved pasts.

Image
The Lady in Red

Trouble has come to the village of Kingston. A young nobleman has been murdered, and there are reports of a red-cloaked woman stalking the vicinity armed with a bow and arrow. It’s something that Myles Rutland, Duke of Beresford, didn’t anticipate he’d encounter on returning to his country seat for the first time in years. When his faithful butler is also killed, Myles vows to put an end to this lawlessness, including discovering the identity of the red-clad female who casts her shadow over the parish.

Lady Lora Putney still grieves the cruel death of her older brother. Her best friend and her father’s heir is gone, throwing her family into disarray, as it seems Samuel Hawkesbury, her hateful cousin, is set to inherit Winterbourne and will expect her hand in marriage. The arrival of the Duke of Beresford at his neighboring estate is another unwelcome development. Lora will never forget how she lost her heart to Myles, only to be cut by him at a Society ball. But no matter. All she cares about now is finding the man who so callously shot Nicholas and delivering her own brand of justice…

The Revenge of the Wallflowers Series includes 53 books written by some of today’s hottest authors, including award-winning and USA Today bestselling authors. New books will be released each week through February 2025. Reserve your copies today!

Huzzah!!! It’s a book birthday for My Own Private Lyon, the sequel to Pretty Little Lyon and Truth or Lyon from my little series within the Lyon’s Den Connected World!!!

Image

Mr. Quinton Prendergast meets an enchanting young woman whilst walking in Hyde Park, and wishes he could find such a girl to be his wife. But since ladies of the ton refuse to give him a second glance, he decides to employ the matchmaking skills of his distant cousin, Mrs. Bessie Dove-Lyon—otherwise known as the Black Widow of Whitehall, owner of the Lyon’s Den. Happily, Bess comes through, swiftly hatching a possible match to one of the Misses Steere.

When their elder sister’s reputation appears tarnished, Miss Augusta Steere and her twin sister, Delphi, must seek husbands posthaste. Being the eldest by mere minutes, Augusta is far from inspired by the list her father acquires from an unnamed source. If only she could be introduced to someone like the handsome man she encountered in Hyde Park.

Shock registers when Quin realizes Miss Augusta Steere is the girl in the park, and he hardly minds when she kisses him at Delphi’s entreaty, an act which forces a declaration of engagement and a hasty marriage. Nevertheless, Augusta’s feet grow cold when she’s whisked away to Kent and the man she’s dreamed of, hardly has time for her in reality.

Could it be that she compromised him into marrying her to skirt her elder sister’s scandal because he’s wealthy but untitled, and he married her because she’s the daughter of a viscount?

While I’m busy celebrating, I hope you take advantage of the low $.99 price before it increases to $2.99.

I love poetry and romance. One writer, always on my radar, has the most incredible tug on my heart and soul. Aye, just as 🏴‍☠️ Captain Jack Sparrow 🏴‍☠️ saved one shot not meant for you, Shakespeare wielded a mighty pen and made Valentine’s Day an everyday event for all of us.

Truth or Lyon Releases Today!

I can’t believe it’s been a year since I’ve posted on my blog. So much has happened since then, much of it involving my Rogue’s illness, a move to make his life easier, and unpacking. I’m still knee-deep in boxes, with my beloved research books crying out for shelves to house them. I’ve also been writing and struggling to meet deadlines while happily awaiting the birth of our seventh grandchild. 😍

My, it’s been an eventful year and now I can happily announce that my next book in The Lyon’s Den Series from Dragonblade Publishing is finally here. Huzzah! 🎉

And now, without further adieu, I give you my next book baby, Truth or Lyon, the sequel to Pretty Little Lyon!

Image

An indiscretion, a scandalous game of truth or dare, and the prize—a coveted kiss—threaten her future, but this is one game she cannot quit.

Spencer Wright-Smythe, antiquities hunter and Baron of Kilverstone has something of a rakish reputation. So when he’s introduced to Miss Porthenia Steere, she’s instantly on her guard, even though the attraction she feels is almost overwhelming. She resists his impudence as she’s determined to marry for love, to a man who’s good and true.

If only things were that simple. For Thenie has already set the cat among the pigeons by spreading a scurrilous rumor about herself in order to avoid a betrothal, and it won’t be long before all Society knows of her supposed indiscretion. Will her two younger sisters be hurt by her impulsiveness and prevented from marrying well too?

Then there’s the temptation of Spencer, who’s somehow always near. He challenges her to a game of truth or dare—if she loses, he’ll claim a kiss.

It’s hard to say no since she’s never been kissed before.

Since Pretty Little Lyon’s release, readers have contacted me to let me know how much they enjoyed Lottie and Septimus. Their unanimous verdict? They wanted more! And I can’t tell you how exciting it was to hear readers loved my two characters as much as I did. From the beginning, the seed of an idea had been ruminating in my mind about developing a series for Lottie’s three cousins, Parthenia, Augusta, and Delphi. I pitched the idea to Dragonblade and they loved it as much as I did. Huzzah!

Today, the first of the three books has arrived and I can’t wait to hear what you think about “Thenie” and her hero, Spencer.

Happy reading!

Blessings,

Katherine

New Release!

I’ve been working on a new series and I’m so happy to be finally sharing it with you.

Welcome the first book in my Christmas for Ransome Series – To Sir Christmas, With Love! Based on The Pirate’s Yuletide Treasure short story, I’ve expanded the world of Captain Ransome and his wife Cassia, and why they go to a brothel in Canterbury to celebrate Christmas Eve every year.

Image

Napoleon’s war still rages on the Continent, and Lieutenant Christmas Astley-Milne must return to sea. However, Chris is tormented that Emma Clavering, the woman he’s always loved, might marry another while he’s gone. There’s nothing for it but for him to propose before he leaves.

Emma accepts without hesitation. But as months turn into years, and nothing more is heard of Chris, must she also accept that he’s dead, or is he being held captive? The only way she can keep hope alive is to help bring prisoners of war back to England as part of a smuggling operation she runs with her cousin. It’s her dearest wish that Chris, wherever he is, is being treated well, and he, too, will eventually be returned safe and sound.

Finally, after five long years, her steadfastness is rewarded when Chris comes home just in time for Christmas. But he is not the same man who left her to fight the French. War has changed him, and he is wounded inside and out. Will anything, save a Yuletide miracle, be enough to thaw his heart?

And December 13th, you’ll get book two, Yule be Home for Christmas.

Image

From the workhouse to the British army, then captivity courtesy of Napoleon’s men, Lieutenant Daniel Barrett has never known the warmth or safety of a real home. But now, his training as a physician and loyalty to his captain, Sir Christmas Astley-Milne, have found him a temporary resting place. Having helped the wounded Chris escape to England, Daniel is sequestered at Milne Manor, caring for other soldiers who’ve returned across the Channel.

But it’s not the place he can call home, where he can settle with the wife and children he longs for. For what can he offer a good woman such as Ivy Martin, the daughter of Milne Manor’s stableman and his able medical assistant, for whom he’s formed a secret affection, when he has no money and few prospects? Once again, it’s time to move on.

However, just before Christmas, Ivy’s father is badly hurt, and Daniel finds himself comforting her—and kissing her under the mistletoe. This changes everything. Or does it, when he’s preparing to leave Milne Manor for London come the New Year?

And coming in January 2023, the extended novella of The Pirate’s Yuletide Treasure!

That’s right! You loved the short story so much that I created an entire series around it. Huzzah! And boy, has this been a joy to write. I hope you enjoy it too! 😍

Here’s a peek at the novella’s cover.

Image

Isn’t this cover FANtastic? My cover designer, Dar Albert, was able to capture Cassia’s approach to Klaus Haus in Canterbury perfectly. 🎊

I’m going to continue to offer the short story for FREE as my gift to you. Yay!!! The books in the series will be available for #99ents each.

I’m happy to tell you that I’m having the best time writing these characters’s stories.

Here’s what one reader had to say about To Sir Christmas, With Love.

5 Stars!✶✶✶✶ “As a prisoner of war in France, Chris endures hardships that would kill a normal man but thoughts of Emma is what keeps him alive. When he finally escapes and is brought home badly wounded, Emma is there waiting for him but both have changed. This is where the magic of Christmas occurs and two hearts are finally together again. I always enjoy Katherine Bone’s writing and this was no exception.”

Enjoy!
