Title: How We Met

Rating: G-PG
Beta: None - read at your own risk
Characters: Fictional versions of myself and a friend
Summary: Written in about two minutes, in response to a meme posted by someone from my flist on my private account, asking people to tell them in the comments how we met them, but to LIE about it. Apparently one of my muses liked this idea, because they ran with it, and quickly, too. I like that sort of behavior from a muse, so I decided to reward said behavior by posting this little ficlet publicly.
We were both so painfully young and naive when that evil ringmaster fooled us into joining his circus... he started us out easy, letting us dress up as clowns, fooling us into thinking we were having such great fun.
Eventually, he had us well away from home, where no-one knew us, and we were put to work doing the hard stuff, repairs that only little hands could reach, cleaning under the bleachers and animal cages...
The first time we tried to run away, he caught us, and the clown couple who'd been assigned as our 'parents' fooled everyone into thinking we were merely misbehaving. We were punished so harshly that it was at least a few years before we attempted to run again.
We were caught again that time, but the next... we got smart. We let all the animals loose beforehand, then made good our escape in the chaos that followed. We made our way home, where our parents had been searching for us the whole time.
Since then, we have never been to another circus, and have stayed hidden at home every time one comes to town, for fear the ringmaster will recognise us, and try to take us away again.
